Thanks so much for your reply. I envy your experiences on the old Liners. Since you are a travel agent, have you sailed the Celebrity ship "Summit". I only just found out that the "Summit" has original Normandie art work on board, The "La Normandie" statue in their main dining room and then the alternative "Normandie" restaurant with original wall panels. It looks so beautiful. Anyone who wants to see it there are pictures at:

Thank you, KDS. I've been truly fortunate and hold many memories dear in my heart.

As for your question, I haven't sailed on the Summit yet, nor on any of her Millennium-class sisterships. But each of those ships has an alternative dining room with artifacts and/or panelling taken from classic liners. Millie's alternative dining room has panelling from Titanic's sistership, Olympic. Infinity's alternative dining room has decor taken from the SS United States' First Class dining room.

Maven....lol....I agree. That is a perfect name for Volendam's centerpiece. If you think they "missed the boat" ---pun intended--- on Voldendam's atrium....

Well, it is positively stunning in comparison to Zaandam's. But, we did also have a wonderful time the one time we cruised Voldendam. She is a tad more formally decorated than Zaandam. I think they intended for Zaandam to be a full time Caribbean cruiser when they decorated her....and her slightly more casual feel is very comfortable. She (and Voldendam) are great ships....love the center staircase!

But you know me....if the ship flies an HAL flag, I love the "dam" lady . (with the exception of Noordam :( )

Tell us what you dislike about Noordam. I've never been on Noordam but I like Noordam and Niew Amsterdam from an external aesthetic point of view becuase they both have the more classic lines of a "liner".

Physically, I do like the looks of Noordam. I also like her classic lines.

What I do not like is the vibration which has existed on that ship straight from the boatyard and they have never been able to correct. It does not bother everyone...but for those that it does annoy, it is awful. I had a headache the entire ten days we spent on her and this vibration causes a difficult to describe "sound".....again, doesn't bother everyone, but I can still hear that noise in my head some 8 years later.

There are other more minor things about her that didn't totally please me, but they pale in comparison to the discomfort I felt the whole time we were aboard.
