Has anyone sailed on the Adventure of the Sea's"

We are thinking about booking this for next Feb or March. We loved the Navigator (this should be basically the same ship) and the Freedom. Has anyone done this cruise out of San Juan and what did you think of both the cruise and the ship? We have some newbies booking with us and we've raved about Royal Caribbean Voyager and Freedom class ships. We love the way the Promenade is set up, the "heartbeat" of the ship. I'd appreciate any info.
Thanks.

I've sailed on Adventure and Serenade from San Juan. Both are beautiful ships and the cruise hits all of my favorite spots. One advantage I have found about sailing from San Juan, the ships are full, but not crowded. Seems the airfare turns off some people. The Port of San Juan is the fast boarding ever. My wife and I got off the bus and in less than 10 minutes were in our room. There are posting around this board and others about the "locals" taking over. Both of my cruises were in the spring, and there was none of the chaos that others have sited. Adventure is a great ship and I plan on sailing on her at least once more, I have some "Freedoms" to sail on first.

We,ve sailed out of San Juan twice once on the Empress of The Seas 1998 and Adventure of The Seas 2003. The AOS is a awesome ship and you will love the promenade it's like being in a mall. We are sailing on the AOS 5/18/08 out of San Juan and expect to have a great time as always - this will be our 6th cruise with Royal Caribbean and plan on many more.

We sailed on AOS last May and we enjoyed it very much. I like the Navigator a little more because it had a "Chops" restaurant onboard. AOS does not. I agree that the ships are full but not over crowded. The staff was wonderful. We are also on the 5/18/08 cruise on AOS. Favorite port of call - St. Maarten, hands down. Don't think you'll be disappointed. :girly

What kind of room you got? We decided on a Promenade View Stateroom. Wanted a balcony but figured we could do more by saving money with the PR. Something different too we figured.

My husband Ed and I are sailing on AOS out of San Juan 5/18/08 as well as a couple others I see here. This is our 7th cruise, 2nd on RCCL, and first on a Grand Promenade ship. We have been wanting to try one for a long time. I think it will be great.

I hope you all post reviews when you return!

tmoore4075....3 balcony cabins and 2 insides. Our daughter and son in-law had a Promenade cabin aboard Freedom and it was really cool, something different. They are going with the balcony this time. This will be their second cruise.

So for people who have been on the Southern Caribbean cruise, are there any ports you would suggest are better to just go around by yourself? I know some people think all ports are better that way but is there one or two out of those four that are best for it?

I think that St. Thomas would be the easiest to do on your own, whether you stay on St. Thomas or go to St. John's. Then I find St. Maarten and Aruba a toss up. I find Curacao is the most difficult to do on your. This may be because I have been there the least of the four islands.

Thanks. This will be helpful in seeing if we do not want to do an excursion at a location or two.

We just got back from this cruise - Curacao is very easy to do on your own. We just got in a taxi and asked the driver to take us to Kon Tiki beach. You will be amazed at how beutiful this beach is!!! WE LOVED IT.
St. Maartin we did a taxi by ourself to Orient Beach - beware of nudity if you have children though.
St. Thomas we did a taxi to Meagans Bay - all very easy to do on your own. I booked a private jeep tour through ABC JEEPS in Aruba and it was a blast. Would recommend this to anyone.
I find the ships shore excursions to be too pricey - you can do most of what they have on your own.

We've been on the Adventure of the Seas for 6 sailings, and she's one of our favorites. The staff, crew and officers are very professional, but very friendly, and eveyone knocks themselves out to deliver the WOW. I agree with the shore excurion info - most of the ports are easy to get around on by yourself, but if your going diving or doing other exotic 'adverntures' and have never been there, you might want a planned event for those activities.

I'm so happy to hear from those of you that have done this sailing and can't wait to hear from those that are going in the next few months! Thanks for the information.

Cindyanded...please let us know what you think of the "Promenade". We are completely hooked on the ships with this feature. We sailed Princess and had a fantastic time, no complaints but the "Wow" factor was just not there.

We sailed AOS for our honeymoon and loved it!

Hint: At dinner, you do NOT have to limit yourself to one thing. For instance, on lobster night I ordered the lobster, my wife ordered the chicken breast, and we ordered the sirloin tips or whatever kinda steak it was to share between the two of us. After all that, since it wasn't yet dessert time, our waiter asked me if I wanted another lobster tail - duh!!

But it can be like that every night, just that usually I controlled my gluttony.

Have fun. Can't wait to take another cruise.

I have another question... what time do they let you board the ship? I noticed that it comes in at 7am and doesn't leave until 8:30pm. is there a reason why it departs so late? I'm doing my flight through RCCL so I won't know for a while. Just trying to see what time we might be getting in. you can tell I'm very bored.
