Mike & I have stayed there before and after for a day in Novemenber, the first room had an "odor", but the second day was fine. There is a GREAT little French pastry shop around the corner, good selection of teas. The Hotel restaurant is not very good but there is a couple of restaurants nearby, as well as a Walgreen's across the street for any of the last minute things. Mike came down with a headcold and I was able to get some things that I don't normally bring with us.
As for tea on board, should warn you that you'll have to ask for English Breakfast Tea, you'll get Lipton's if you don't...

Dear lord....$100 a night for Comfort Inn? Guys, check out the area very well. The Holiday Inns, Comfort Inns, etc. are notorious in South Florida for being prostitute and drug havens. Some violate the law and rent by the hour. There are investigations going on right now regarding these chains and the drug dealing going on. They can be very dangerous. I always feel sorry for people who get off of I-95 and stay at a "well known" chain, not realizing how dangerous they are. It's worth a few more dollars (I've never heard of $100 a night for a Comfort Inn - more like $49) to be safe and clean.
The best of the best for Port Everglades is Hyatt's Pier 66 right on the Port. Not terribly expensive and makes for a nice evening of relaxation before or after the cruise.

I guess not terribly expensive depends on the time of year you are needing the room.
Cruising during February those rooms at Hyatt Pier are over 350. a night. Considering we are arriving after midnight and leaving the hotel a few hours later--- I should get the lady of the night special

Ahhh...yeah, Jan and Feb are the most expensive months for Florida. Exactly - you can book a really really nice hotel on the ocean from May to October for less than $100 a night....$400 during season. But heck, if I was only going to be there a few hours, I wouldn't care much either.

i HAD TO CHANGE MY DATES FOR THE CRUISE SO NOW i GO ON THE 10JAN UNTIL THE 24TH ON THE rUBY. i HAD TO CANCEL THE FLIGHTS AND THE HOTEL.
tHE FLIGHT CAME TO £73 MORE AND THE eMBASSY sUITES WENT FROM £62 A NIGHT IN dEC TO £92 IN jAN.

I have been to Ft. L many times for a cruise. We have tried different places each time. DON'T stay at the Ramada Inn!!!! Worst experience ever. La Quinta is good. The Sheraton is good. But does NOT have a free shuttle to the ship. We are staying at the Springhill Suites Marriott this time. We have heard good things about it. It is right between the airport and the port on the main road. I have seen it before. Free shuttle to the airport and port. Free breakfast buffet and a nice pool. Once we rented a car and stayed at Lauderdale by the Sea. Too far.

could you please tell me about your experince at the Ramada Inn Cruiseport- and when was it.
I am booked at the hotel-- we booked it two times before and never had issues- took rooms facing the pools not the parking lots etc.
Dont know if we never had issues since we have always arrived after midnight and gone by 10:30 the next morning

It was last May. We stayed one night after the cruise. We waited over two hours for the shuttle to show up at the port. They kept saying it was on it's way. Lied. We kept calling and calling. When we got to the hotel we realized why they didn't get us. There was no room left in the lobby area for us and our luggage. The place was packed with cruise passengers getting ready to get on the ship and people coming to check in like us after the cruise. It was a fiasco. They said we could not even check our bags. The line was deep at the desk. They would not check us in until all the people leaving for the port were taken care of. We just wanted to bolt, but had too much luggage. When we finally got our luggage in a store room hours later, we had to wait two more hours for a room. We walked down th road and had lunch and came back later. it had quieted down and was much better. The room was fine. It was a welcome site. But in all the years of cruising this was the most disorganized way I have ever seen it done. I am hoping the Marriott will be better. La Quinta was good and the Sheridan was good.

We've stayed at the Rennaisance twice. Both times, got it on Priceline or Hotline. I was hoping for something else, both times. It is a nice hotel, and was a great deal at the prices we paid, but I don't believe I'd ever pay full price for it. It's a nice place, clean and in good condition (nice room, nice lobby, nice location, pleasant workers) but not exceptional in any way. My personal opinion is that it's star rating is inflated a full star level.
I actually was disappointed in the pool area, as it is ordinary and has a busy street right next to it with noisy street sounds, and car honkings. Definitely not a relaxing oasis. I had been hoping for the Marriot Marina (currently now called the Fort Lauderdale Grand, a Hilton property) That hotel, is right in the Marina, lovely quiet pool area, bigger pool, with a nice pool bar and fantastic views from our room. It was directly on the water taxi route also. Very convenient.
Now those two hotels are hardly any distance from each other, but the experience was quite different. I've not stayed at the FLL Grande since before the hurricane that ended it's time as a Marriott, so don't know about it now. We are thinking of giving it another try for this Novemeber. I'm waffling between it and the Hollywood Beach Marriott. We've stayed there before. Very nice hotel, despite an ordinary pool. But who cares about that pool, the hotel is directly on fabulous Hollywood Beach. And for that reason we might be willing to pay the taxi for the longer drive.
Whichever we pick, we will probably just pay the asking price, this time, as I really don't want to end up at the Renn again.
