So has anyone given thought to where you might stay pre-crusie?

Thinking about our old favorite, the Renaissance, if I can get it on Priceline at a good price again. Have been able to get it for about $115 last couple of times. Close to the Bimini Boat Yard and the French Bakery (killer scrambled egg and bacon croissants). And the shuttle to the port only takes 5 min and $6 dollars.

Not really. Just kind of looking around. We may come in early and stay a week. Oscar wants to see Miami, so we may look for a condo if there are any with roll-in showers.

We have been satisfied with the HyaTT and with their shuttle we can get around town. So probably will end up back there.

red & I are staying with Gramma Ann & Oscar in their condo .. .Anyone else care to join US???

Now for the truth ... NO decisions yet but it could be either of the two mentioned are good choices. As we do NOT leave until Monday we may VERY well come in GatorLand early for a weekend of warmth and Fun in the Sun. :boogie:

We might be doing the same thing E. Maybe make it back down to Hobo's in Key Largo. According to Sue, they have great Conch fritters. I would not know. I know what they look like before they cook them, I ain't eatin them.
I had a cold beer and a cheese burger the size of a dinner plate. :cheer:

Probably still a bit early to go snorkeling in the keys though. Maybe a run all the way to Key West?

Mike, Oscar and I had toyed with the idea of spending a day or two in Key West also. We were there for a short stop a few years ago, and didn't have time to do much. So a trip there is a possibility.

Have not made any plans yet as we need to nail down our transportation first. I see Value Trips has NOT opened up their spring fares yet so we may VERY well do the priceline this also. If anyone has success on their bids posting it here might be good for the rest of the Group.

Well E, I tried priceline yesterday at $90 for a 4* in downtown FLL (the port area) but got turned down. Was going to rebid today, but found out we got a free nights stay from the good folks at Westin (to make up for a bed with a broken box spring and not clenaing up the "party favors" the previous guest left behind) so I think we will be using for the Westin Beach Resort if we can or maybe one of the other Starwood Hotels properties if they let us.

Mike

P.S. I have always had good luck getting the Renniasance on 17th by bidding in the $100 to $115 range.

E - I tried to make a reservation on Value Trips a couple of months ago for our Jan cruise, and they sent me an e-mail back saying they will open the 2011 rates in October.

Thanx for the Heads UP Corky. That should be about the right timeframe that we start making the final arrangements. :boogie:

On the weekend, don't expect to get further than Islamorada in 3 or 4 hours. But there is plenty to do in Key Largo, Pennekamp State park is supposed to be pretty nice. We did a snorkel trip there the last time we were on the Grand in 2004. We still have not figure out the plans yet, we are waiting for Airtran to post the flights for the 14th before we decide on when we are coming down.

We will be staying at the Sheraton airport as they let us keep our car there while on the cruise and right now we are planning on driving down. Sure would like to try out the Weston though, so maybe Ed can see if we can leave our car there,,, I doubt it though.

As we are in for 2 nights now that we have finalized travel plans down we will probably do the Hotwire or Priceline thing to keep the $$$ costs in reason. I have alerts set up on both for price reductions for this timeframe. :boogie:

Just got our favorite hotel, the Reniassance on 17th on priceline. $135 bid, better than the $197 on expedia.

Right next to the Bimini Boatyard, Bravo and a Walgreens. Shuttle to the port cost me $20 for two with a tip last time.

Now all we need to do is make the arrangements for the kids at the kennel and wait for February to get here.
