I hate to be a party pooper but - I HATE FIREWORKS!

I think I posted this last year on the 4th, too. Fireworks are illegal (with good reason in my estimation) in Iowa (except for sparklers), and EVERY SINGLE YEAR my neighbors have a fireworks display in their back yard that rivals some small towns. Now, I need to get up early tomorrow, and have a toddler asleep upstairs, and it will go on until all hours.

I keep telling DH that I'm calling in an anonymous tip to the sheriff, but he says that probably wouldn't help our already strained relationship with the neighbors. I guess I can deal with it one night a year, but it positively drives me crazy. Not to mention that they have 10 and 11 year old kids doing sparklers, smoke bombs and firecrackers unsupervised in the front yard. It's only a matter of time until somebody's kid blows off a finger.

Vent over - thanks for listening!

Same situation here. Neighbors have several families over, toddlers in the yard, and fireworks going off all the time. Their parties always end up with a fight and someone screaming off in a car. They are already drinking. Oh boy!

Report them!!! I'd rather live with the wrath of my neighbours than have a child lose an arm, a leg, their sight or worse!! If it's illegal it's illegal for everyone and that includes your neighbours!!

=yeah I agree. Very dangerous and if it is illegal then they ought to knock it off.

Fireworks are legal here in Nevada for the 4th ONLY. They set up booths on June 30 and non profits sell the fireworks until the 4th. People are not allowed to use the fireworks after the 4th. They call them "safe and sane" but as I said in a recent post when you mix alcohol and explosives it is neither safe nor sane. Our apartment complex bans them and it is a $500 fine if you get caught setting them off on property.

The Texas Station Casino is across the street from my apartments so I'll have a perfect view of their display from the front lawn of my complex.

Vent anytime :thumb

What is it with otherwise reaonsable adults and loud noises and pretty colors one night a year? I just don't get it. I've been emboldened by your responses - I just may make my call this year - besides, DH is out of town! :)

I called the police more than once when a neighbor was shooting bottle rockets at my house - I'm not kidding - they were landing on my patio. I live in a very dense area of attached townhouses. This was more than 10 years ago. This same neighbor had an accident with a firecracker and is now missing part of his hand. The only fireworks I like are the ones put on by towns in a controlled setting.

The only fire works I approve of are the ones being set off by our local fire company who have experts doing it. I have neighbors all around us setting those noisy things off. The animals get so scared.

One year we had a drought and I could see those fireworks shooting into the field behind my house and in my yard and thinking there is going to be a fire. Some people do not have any brains or common sense.

I'm with you. They are illegal in this Town the problem is if you go one town over you can buy them. They always frightened the dogs. I like fireworks done professionally from a distance. I don't believe personal fireworks should be allowed.

Last night and again today the Fire Department is going through the neighborhood. I have had to call the police on more than one occassion. And will tonight too if necessary. I just thoroughly wet the lawns and trees in hopes that should something land there it will be OK. I just don't trust my neighbors. And I will keep the hose on until midnight tonight.
as I said in a recent post when you mix alcohol and explosives it is neither safe nor sane.
Do you mean that it's NOT true, that in order to have fun on the 4th, you have to buy a 5th on the 3rd?

They're illegal here, too, but the people in this neighborhood don't seem to care. The city police are too busy to do anything about it, so we're stuck, and I just plain don't like the blasted things. With prices being what they are for everyting this year, I especially can't understand how they manage to justify "blowing up" hard earned money.

I totally agree! Fireworks should only be handled by professionals, with a working hose and some sand standing nearby. In Vancouver, they are shot off a barge on the water by professionals. There are just far to many folks walking around with missing fingers or in some cases, missing hands, all because of fireworks. Play safe.

I agree with all of you....leave it to the professionals to give us good fireworks displays and hopefully NO ONE will get hurt :thumb

I remember when we were kids, about the only "fireworks" we were allowed to "play with" were sparklers and those snakey things you light and then the ashes would form a long snake. I LOVED those things. Of course, this was pretty much in the middle of the street, with every parent in the neighborhood out there supervising, making sure it was all safe and sane. Now, it's just crazy. Are parents stupider or do they just not think? (or are they both the same???)

:( My Poppa owns a Construction firm that blows things up for 50 plus years..

and the ONE thing he hates is fireworks..it was forbidden in our house growing up.. he knew way to many folks with blown up events causing digits and limbs missing.. .. so all were were allowed over the years were sparklers, and he pitched fits to Momma over those even.. so consequently our kids only saw the legal kind..

DS Stephen has them at his friends camp up country ..they shoot them off over the water.. and I am forever preaching safety from the dock they use to launch them.. but I hear you Lauren.. take care..
when you add the booze factor it's even worse..:(..

I would much rather see the Fire Companies than risk fire, or injury myself..hugs.Joanne
