I too am so sorry to hear of his passing. My husband was a diabetic and on kidney dialysis for over 5 years before he passed away so I know how you feel. It's never easy. Hugs and prayers your way.

Jorge, no matter the illness, no matter the age, we are never prepared to lose a loved one, especially a parent. We're never old enough to be without them. My deepest sympathies to you and all whom your father left behind.

By keeping him in your heart and actively speaking about him, he will remain around forever.

My beloved Dad died 5 years ago, yet EVERY DAY between 3 and 4 pm, we toast our coffees to him. Find what he enjoyed and enjoy those things for him.

Oh Jorge...it's been a long time since I checked in here and I am so sorry to read your sad news. It is devestating to lose a parent.

When my Dad passed away (can it be almost 10 years ago??...it seems like yesterday) a very dear friend sent me this bit of 'poetry'. It is so suitable for someone who loves the sea and ships. It brought me a great deal of comfort at the time and I hope you are able to find some comfort in it too!

With my deepest sympathy to you and to your family...

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.​

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"​

Gone where?​

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.​

Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"​

And that is dying...​
