My Father

My father is dying. Dad has congestive heart failure. He's gone through numerous surgeries over the years, but now, there just isn't any more the surgeons can do. He's being transferred to hospice today. I'll be flying out on Saturday. That's the soonest I could get a reservation. I'm just praying that I'll be able to see his face one more time before he passes. But, that's my own selfishness.

He is 93 and has lived a long and happy life, but time catches up with all of us eventually. My big concern is Mom - s he's 92 and they've been together for nearly 70 years. This is going to devistate her. Her health is iffy. With early Altzheimer's, she has good days and bad days.

John will not be accompanying me, at my request. He wanted to, but he's scheduled to start the new job on Monday, and I will have other support out there - my son, daughter-in-law, both grand-daughters, and (at least) one of my brothers. I don't know when, or if, my other three brothers will be there.

So, your prayers for my family will be greatly appreciated ... Thank you.

Pat, I got your message before I left work and I put you on the Pastoral Care Department (the sisters and priests) list as well as the emergency list at church, so Leon and I will add to them. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. It's never easy, but especially when you have a delay on getting where you need to go. Please keep checking to see about the availability of cancellations so you might be able to leave earlier. I don't think anyone would think you're selfish because you want to see your dad one more time, certainly not any of us who have ever been in the same situation! Hugs, friend!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear this. Even though at 93, he has had a long life it is never easy letting go of the ones we love. We had a wonderful experience when we had hospice for my mother. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
