Cherrybomb,

We just got back from the Mexican Riviera on the Golden! No real need to disguise it. Just make sure to place it in the middle of the suitcase and keep it WELL padded. I packed a bottle of Petron in it's box and wrapped a towl around that. I waited until the wife packed the large suitcase and then placed it in the middle somewhere.

I also packed a bottle of champagne in my wife's carry on and a bottle of Petron in mine. Apparently, they "look the other way" when you just have a little booze.

At the ports, a couple behind us had a bottle of rum inside a shoulder bag. He placed the bag on the xray belt and picked it up on the other side with no one saying anything. :)

So if you don't abuse it, you won't lose it. :)

Take as much wine as you would like to drink, put it in a wine shipper box and send it onboard with your luggage. I just took 2 cases in June with no trouble what-so-ever

Cheers

Just returned from a Princess cruise and we took wine and beer onboard and no one said a word--we had 2 bottles of wine and 2-6 packs of beer. We also brought some wine and beer in ports and had no problem getting it on and to our cabin. They did save our rum for us :), which I expected.

My husband just packs his vodka in the middle of his checked baggage and it is fine.

We were on Emerald Pricess sailing out of Barcelona on Sept 26th and he also bought small mickeys of vodka while in port, placed in the pockets of his shorts and walked through security. They only scan handbags and carryons.

I had no trouble with mulitple bottles of wine. Web site says one bottle per person, passage contract is silent. So it challenged, show the passage contract. It rules

I've bought rum in port, wrapped it in a towel, (to prevent breakage) and stuffed it down in the bottom of my snorkel bag to bring on board. As E said "not an eyelash was batted", even though the bag passed through the x-ray machine. I did this on Princess last March.

I honestly believe the rules are in place to 1) Prevent excessive amounts from being brought on. (I've never been bothered about just one bottle) and 2) To keep the cruise line from being held liable if someone "breaks their rules" and then gets injured or falls overboard.

Of course we'll bring one bottle of wine each on board but the option I found most reasonable for on board drinking is their room service bottles. Wine is WAY over priced but the hard liquor is reasonable. You can buy a bottle of rum for around $17.00 and a six pack of coke for $10.00 (overpriced) and have 12 mixed drinks for only $27.00 (versus $84.00 anywhere else on the ship. I'll bring a travel cup with me for mixing on the go)

Anyone have a better idea? I'm listening. I hope to buy some duty free bottles but do expect them to be "held" until the end of the cruise.

Rum at $17 per 375ml that is $45 per liter. That doesn't sound reasonable to me. Just 2 years ago you could get top shelf on Princess for $22 per liter.
