When you say open seating, does your entire party have to be there or can you straggle in one at a time? I'm speaking of breakfast of course. Am I correct that there is no lunch meal in the main dining room? You sort of pick one of the other areas that serve food at lunch time around the ship?

Your entire party has to be there if you wanted to be seated together. They start at one section of the restaurant and fill the seats as they go, so if you come in seperately, you'll be seated apart.

I believe they serve lunch in the dining room on sea days. I remember eating lunch in the dining room a few times on our Truimph cruise.

As far as I remember, all three meals were available in the main dining room on non-port days, though most people seemed to do breakfast and lunch on the Lido.

As for publicdefender's "open seating" question, I assume you were referring to breakfast and lunch in the main dining room? If so, yes-- your entire party would have to arrive together to be seated together, though I would guess if you asked (and tipped!) nicely, your request might be accomodated. If you chose to eat on the Lido, you could "save" tables of course, but don't be surprised if you get some dirty looks if you try to save like 5 or 6 tables and the place is really busy... could be viewed as deck-chair-hogging, I would bet... so do so with caution!! :)

Actually, if you are expecting others in your party to arrive within a few minutes, you can tell the waiter and he will seat you at an empty table, not with others already seated. All you have to do is ask, and no add'l tip required. This is done quite often - I've done it myself several times. I'm sure they would PREFER to do it 'their way', but it has and will be done to suit you.

I prefer having all my meals in the dining room, as I don't care for buffet food as a rule. I like being waited on, and the food is much fresher in the dining room than on Lido Deck. (I have tried it a time or two.) On ships that have two dining rooms, one dining room is always open for lunch, even on port days. And of course, Lido Deck buffet is open for all meals, sea or port days.
