Charles

Since this will be the last, official "Duck Cruise", I thought we should have some sort of rememberance of the the lady who started the "Duck Crew".

As a minister, I'm going to host a quiet gathering of friends and conduct a brief, private service on the fantail as we leave the Hawaiian Islands that Mary Ann so loved. Nothing fancy or formalized; just a simple opportunity, for those who wish, to recall how she impacted on our lives with her gentle touch. We'll close with a prayer, and a symbolic casting of leis into the sea, as we commend her spirit to our memories and her soul to God. I'm hoping that this will provide some degree of the closure we failed to realize when she was so abruptly taken from us.

"Aloha", in Hawiian, means 'affection', 'peace', 'compassion' and 'mercy'. Since the middle of the 19th century, it also has come to be used as an English greeting to say both 'hello' and 'goodbye'. "Mele Ana" is Hawiian for Mary Ann.

So ..."Aloha Mele Ana" will be a an opportunity for the last Duck Crew to say, "Farewell and Godspeed" to our beloved "Mama Duck".

I'll add your info to the Manifest, and check w/Ellen. Thanks ...

- QUACK!

John, sounds like a great way to say good bye and thank you to Mary Ann. BTW, I think we're up on deck 7.

The manifest is changing ... gains and losses both. Currently, we have 14 on board.

As always, I would appreciate any information anyone is willing to share. Cabin numbers are only needed so the HAL Activities Coordinator can get your invitations to you. If you don't want your cabin number posted, that is absolutely not a problem. Just send a private e-mail to: john.steinke@dhs.gov, so I'll be able to get events coordinated and no one will be left out.

Crew Manifest

Calgon & SunFlower Star - John & Patricia - Clinton, Michigan - Cabin C3332 / Lower Promenade Deck
GloBug - Glorya & Gordon - San Francisco Bay area - Main Deck (Hmmmm. Maybe we can just put her in a dinghy, or tie a rope to her ankle, and drag her behind the ship?)
Saxon6732 - Alan & Marilyn - Anderson, South Carolina - Cabin - B6122 / Verandah Deck
Sumac! - Herb & Suzy - Alabama - Cabin S7011 / Navigation Deck
Captain Weather - Charles & Margaret - New Jersey - Navigation Deck
CoysDad - Jim & Patty - Salisbury, North Carolina -
J.E.M. - Jim & Claire - Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Dinner Selection

Early Traditional (5:45 pm) - Calgon / GloBug
Late Traditional (8:00 pm) - Sumac!
Anytime Dining (5:30 - 9:00 pm) - Saxon6732
Apparently, Not Eating - Captain Weather / Coysdad / J.E.M.

Celebrations

April 18th (Vancouver) - Holland Amerika Lijn's 140th Birthday
April 19th (At Sea) - SunFlower's Birthday (one month late)

April 28th (Nawiliwili) - Private - Aloha, Mele Ana - Dolphin/Aft
April 29th (At Sea) - GloBug's Birthday (OMG. Gag me. She's really old. I think she's like ... a hundred or so ... ya know?)
May 6th (Vancouver) - Suzy's Birthday
Group Events/Activities

While the Cruise Director and his/her staff will have plenty of activities scheduled (ship building ... Japanese S&M [karaoke] ... trivia contests ... newlywed/not-so-newlywed game ... bingo tournaments ... casino contests ... galley tours ... etc.); I'm looking for suggestions from everyone as to possible group events or teams we can get together for the HAL events (scavenger hunt ... most handsome/beautiful cruise companion (don't even go there gloBug) ... gift exchange ... duck-a-pault ... hula contest ... grass skirt lawn mowing contest ... slot pull ... Calgon/GloBug Cage Match ... knobby-knees ... swimsuit-ping-pong ball stuffing ... GloBug burial-at-sea ... best/worst dressed Hawaiian shirt/mu-mu ... celebrity look-alike ...).

OK, you can see where my poor excuse for a mind is going so, for God's sake, please get your suggestions in. Unless you're willing to foot the bill, events need to be free, or 'no-host', 'cause I'm poor. Nothing is locked in at this time, but since some things will require reservations or other coordination, the sooner we can decide on stuff, the better.

Note: There is only one mandatory group activity ... Getting your fannies/tail feathers on the ship BEFORE 1600 hours (4:00 pm) on April 18th!

Currently, I'm seriously looking at the following; but, nothing is 'locked in' at this time:

I'm sorry to report that FedEx got in touch with us and told us the box was indeed lost, and they apologized profusely.

What upsets us the most is the loss of the two banners that Sis paid to have made. :(

Well, AHOY THERE EVER-BODY !!!!!

Greetings from beautiful Mississippi!

Have been here three weeks now (I think). We've gotten the nutria cleaned up from the beaches, and are well into Recovery. Not sure how much longer we'll be here, but the Team's looking at another 50 days or so ... 'nuf said.

Just got some good news. Apparently, the missing Duck Crew box has been found and delivered to my office. Will inventory on arrival and hope to have a positive report at that time!

Yay!

Now, to tackle the countdown problem ....

I can't wait to see you in the duck costume!
