I feel that the $10 per person per day is very fair. We had a child in our group when we went and the children get the same amount of attention from the crew as the adults do, if not more. I realize that $10 per person per day seems like a large amount if there are several of you in your group, but the crew will earn every single penny of it! In fact, we usually tip extra because the service is just incredible.
I would never remove the automatic tips to scale back on the amount they get. The cabin steward, for example, only gets $3.50 per day of the automatic tips. There is no way I would do what they do twice a day everyday for only $3.50 per person. I can't imagine cutting back on that.
