I'll be there, beej! We'll definitely have to get together sometime. I am so excited about this cruise that I have my countdown just about memorized!! I have one neighbor that doesn't even say hello anymore...he just asks how many days I have left.

Elaine, Glad you'll be there. i was really getting lonely. Have you read of anyone else going on this cruise?. Carolyn and I are arriving the day before and staying at the Sleep Inn unless Priceline opens something up. With Boat Week that may be an impossibility. I think my DH is counting faster than me, he says it's his vaca too. LOL I guess 2 weeks apart is good when you are retired (not to worry, I am only 12.5, and Peter Pan and I won't grow up.) Will be back soon.

Hey, Barb,

I haven't heard of anyone else on this cruise. I keep looking though, and will let you know if I find anyone. I'm glad you told me about Boat Week because my husband and I are driving in the day before, too. I wasn't even thinking about getting a hotel room. We were kind of playing it by ear and just drive and see how far we got because we are leaving home on Friday and figured we didn't need to be at the dock until 11:00 a.m. or so.

Thanks for the heads-up!

HI!

My wife and I will be on this cruise. I have cruised once on Carnival and she has not cruised at all. Even with the low cost Carnival cruise, I had a blast. I am truly looking forward to this one.

Take Care,

Joe

Hi Joe, WELCOME ABOARD, and welcome to your wife. We are now six that have joined the rollcall and hope more will. The 6 of us are fairly new sailors; Carolyn and I have done 2 previous, and Elaine and her husband one. Carolyn and I are getting in on Friday, C from Chicago and i am from the Boston area. Elaine and her DH will be driving down. How about you? Have you been reading the boards? If not, fyi, you can book the Pinnacle Grill for the first night for $10.00 each, but you have to call in from what I gather.

Hope the 6 of us and anyone else can get together to meet our Addicts group. Glad you are sailing. Can't wait, can't wait!

Till we sail Barb

Hi Joe and Welcome aboard!

Barb - I already booked my two nights at the Pinnacle Grill through my travel agent. From what I was told, in order to dine there the first night you have to have advance reservations.

We also requested a table for two for dinner. While it is fun to be very social at dinner, my husband and I have 3 teenagers at home and are so looking forward to some quiet meals together!

I can't wait to meet everyone!

Hi Elaine, Hope the weekend was good. We had very bad storms and a tornado hit a town about 45 min. from here. Thank you God. no one was hurt. I don't blame you for wanting some quiet time with three teens. I don't have children, but I remember back, I think, LOL, My mom needed a little peace occasionally.

Good news, it looks like we are now 8 or 10. We are growing. Cannot wait to meet all.

Till we sail Barb

Hi everyone, Sandy and Steve welcome. It's nice to see other names here. Elaine of nu2cruisin and I were getting lonely. Now we can have a party. Yes, we definitely have to get together. We will have to pick a time as we get closer, like maybe before or after muster or at the sailaway party. Sandy and Steve how lucky to be such esteemed cruisers, and living in Fl. No winter,Heaven on earth! I'm from the Boston area and tired of this winter stuff. I'm counting the days and can't wait to meet the Zud cruise addicts.

Back later. Till we cruise Barb

Hello Sandy and Steve! This is getting pretty exciting...since when I started counting the days it was well over 100 and now I'm in the 60's. I can not wait to sail. It'll be a great bonus to get to meet some fellow addicts!

Hello to everyone. This is Joe's wife. My name is Erin. As Joe said earlier, this will be my first cruise and I am really looking forward to it. We have requested a large table for the late seating. (We have no kids, so a crowd is good for us) We hope to meet some or all of you onboard. We will be comming via Memphis, however, since Joe is an airline pilot, we will be flying standby (yikes!!!) and will probably fly to Detroit, because there are more flight options. We have given ourselves 2 days to get there. Having a hard time finding a hotel due to Boat Show. Any ideas? Hope to see you soon.

Good Morning All and welcome Erin.
Erin, Carolyn and I know about the standby thing. Carolyn is with United Airlines She got a ticket for thi s trip because everything looked so full out of O'Hare, and buddy passing from Boston was no great shake considering I had a voucher to use up. Consequently, we both arrive Friday at 10:30am. The boat show is making life difficult; everything is booked. We finally booked at the Sleep Inn by the airport/cruise. It is only about 1 year old and includes shuttles from airport to cruise. Also breakfast in the morning. I understand a Publix Supermarket and a Walgreens as well as 3 restaurants are across the street.. We got Senior rate ( I amreally going on 12 1/2), but I think they also do airline rate. It is cancellable, so I keep trying on Priceline for downtown or airport. I'll keep you posted.

You will totally love cruising. Carolyn and I did our first last Oct and are addicted. Erin, or anyone, we don't have alot of experience, but I avidly read the boards and have found out some good stuff that we use. If you have any questions, just shout. The people on this board are wonderful with answers, and I will do what I can. I can't wait to call Carolyn and tell her that we are growing. 67 days, and even my husband is counting. He is looking forward to his vaca, too. LOL

Time to drink the coffee! Till we all sail Barb

Hi Erin. This is only my second cruise. I'm so looking forward to this vacation. It's going to be a BLAST and having fellow addicts on board is only going to make it that much better.

Where is everyone staying? We are on the Verendah Deck.

We (Joe and I ) are on the Naviagtion deck. We are in an A class verandah stateroom. Has anyone else been in this type of room before? I am hoping we won't feel too cramped in there. I can't wait. The time is not going by fast enough. Thanks for being so friendly and welcoming. The only real stress that I have is over the standby issue. Hopefully it will work out. I have not been able to persuade Joe to buy a one way ticket to FLL. (Airtran has a cheap fare from MEM going through ATL. ) Keep your fingers crossed. I will look into the Sleep Inn and check Priceline as well. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Good Morning all, Are we leaving tomorrow? I wish :grin Carolyn and I are in a guarantee outside, so we don't have a clue where we are. We really don't have a problem with even inside, because we really do only sleep, shower, and change in the room. Erin, I understand the standby anxiety. C and I have gone to Hawaii several times. We checked and rechecked loads and changed plans. When we sailed out of San Juan last fall C booked a flight because there was only 1 out of SJ. We could have spent our life in the airport. This ticket is on the voucher from that for both of us. My RT from Bos. was only $135. Well worth it.

I did Priceline again yesterday for the 29th. Nothing. I bid Downtown and airport upto $75. That is about the going PL rate for the 3 star. I also put in down to 2 for the LaQuinta at the airport Still nada. You can do other hotels on Travelocity and Hotwire(check biddingfun.c before doing Hotwire). The prices are higher. We just figure we will be tired so won't do much once we arrive. :yawn

Elaine, you said you got a little queasy on your first cruise. You can try Bonine over the counter, but I ask my Dr for a RX for Meclazine. It is the same as Bonine and cheaper that way. We take 1 the night before we sail and 1 each night for 1 or2 days. So far so good and no side effects because at night you go to sleep if you get tired HaHa!

Sandy and Steve, any good stuff we newbies should know?

Till we hoist sail and frozen thingie on the ship Barb

I don't really know what to tell you. Have sailed on Carnival 7x, Princess3x & Holland America 1x (Zaandam 2003, so I'm not a expert on Holland America. Make sure you have all your papers filled out that Holland America sends you (or you filled out on the internet). If I remember correctly, check in was pretty quick. Buffet lunch is served on Lido deck soon after embarkation, do try the Bread Pudding, very good. Entertainment was good. It wasn't hard to find a lounge chair for sunning. It was a very relaxing cruise. Make sure you are on deck for sailaway (Port side) people in condos along the way are usually outside waving & making noise .If you have questions I will try to answer them.

Good Saturday morning Zud sailors. Saltwater, aka Sandy and Steve, thanks for the info. Heard that the bread pudding is to die for. Yummy. Just a quick update, I just put in Priceline again for airport and downtown from 2*LaQuinta to Marriott Marina etc. Did the standard bids that everyone has gotten for other dates up to the $75. No go. Will keep putting it in to see what happens as we get closer.

Considering we almost down to only 2 months, yeahhhh, I have to start thinking clothes, and maybe shopping summer sales. After all, I need something new in the luggage ;)wink

I'm off. Back later

Till we sail Barb

Yes, shopping the summer sales is a must! We are completely playing the hotel card by ear. After all the info you gave us - which me and DH greatly appreciate - we've decided to either stop an hour or two out or, if worse comes to worse, I have some family in FL that I can crash with for one night. I'm trying to avoid that because my mom's family is a little on the touchy side and she has two brothers and a sister in FL and if I only called and stayed with one, I risked getting my mother black-balled...lol!!

And that is so not like me to travel 10 hours from home and not have a plan! I am so excited.
