Oceania Cruises Expands Fleet with Order for Another Sonata Class Ship

Fincantieri Shipbuilders Will Deliver Fifth Sonata Class Ship in 2037

Oceania Cruises®, the world’s leading culinary and destination-focused luxury cruise line, has placed an order for its fifth Sonata Class ship with Fincantieri shipbuilders, scheduled for delivery in 2037, underscoring global demand for the line’s next-generation fleet. The announcement comes in the wake of a record launch day for Oceania Sonata™ in January, reflecting enthusiasm from discerning travelers and valued travel partners.

Reinforcing the direction of the brand, the order of the fifth Sonata Class ship builds on the remarkable momentum of Oceania Sonata, expanding opportunities for guests seeking more space, more choice, and more serenity at sea, an experience Oceania Cruises is uniquely positioned to deliver.

Oceania Cruises Expands Fleet

“Oceania Sonata will set a new benchmark for spaciousness, artistry, and residential comfort,” said Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises. “The record-setting demand for Oceania Sonata affirms that travelers are seeking choice, connection and authentic experiences.  The addition of a fifth Sonata Class ship allows us to provide our guests even more enriching, experiential travel opportunities.”

Debuting in August 2027, the Sonata Class ushers in a new era of elevated luxury with one third more space, all-new suite categories, and reimagined top of ship accommodations. This evolution expands guest choice, from a broader selection of culinary concepts to a wider array of suites and staterooms, complemented by enhanced experiential offerings across the fleet.

Oceania Sonata also introduces two state-of-the-art culinary experiences: La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France, the first restaurant at sea created in collaboration with the esteemed Maîtres Cuisiniers de France; and Nikkei Kitchen, a vibrant culinary concept celebrating the fusion of Peruvian ingredients and refined Japanese techniques, which traces its origins to the late 19th century.

This continued evolution is shaped by the recent transition to an adults-only experience in response to feedback from loyal guests who consistently praise Oceania Cruises’ tranquil onboard ambiance, thoughtful design, and culinary excellence.

Building on the success of Oceania Sonata, Oceania Arietta™, her first sister ship, will open for sale in 2027, carrying forward the same refined aesthetic, generous space ratios, and next-generation amenities that have already resonated with sophisticated travelers.

Oceania Sonata’s inaugural season of sailings launching in August 2027 will showcase a sweeping blend of European and Caribbean destinations, from the cultural capitals of Rome (Civitavecchia), Barcelona and Athens (Piraeus), to hidden gems including Paros and Koper, before transitioning westward to a diverse Caribbean roster featuring Tortola and Bermuda, along with Latin American coastal spots such as Manzanillo and Puerto Quetzal, capped by a daylight Panama Canal transit.
