Carnival Cruise Lines Is First To Sail 10 Million Guests From Galveston

Carnival Cruise Line further solidified its position as the market leader in Galveston, Tex., becoming the first cruise operator to embark 10 million guests from the port recently. Marsha Taulton of Houston was recognized on Carnival Breeze as the 10 millionth Carnival guest cruising from Galveston.

Taulton and her husband, Paul, were welcomed aboard by Capt. Isidoro Renda and Galveston Wharves Port Director and CEO Rodger Rees, and the ship’s team led an impromptu celebration of the landmark embarkation.

“This is an achievement that speaks to the success of our longstanding partnership with the port and the greater Galveston community,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We are grateful to our guests who have sailed with us from Galveston over the past two decades, continually driving the popularity of this homeport forward. The future is certainly bright, as we’re delighted to welcome more guests aboard than ever before from this great city – next stop, 20 million!”

The 10 millionth guest milestone follows an expansion of Carnival service at the port that began with the introduction of the cruise line’s new flagship, Carnival Jubilee, which was the first new cruise ship to be christened in Galveston. The expansion continues in October when Carnival Miracle begins sailing from Galveston and completes a four-ship deployment strategy. At the end of this year, Carnival’s guest capacity in Galveston is expected to increase by 20 percent compared to last year, carrying more than 800,000 guests.

Carnival launched the first year-round cruise program from Galveston in 2000 and continues to be the leading cruise operator sailing year-round from the port. Carnival ships offer a variety of itineraries from Galveston, with dozens of options available into the spring of 2026, visiting popular destinations across the Caribbean and The Bahamas.

Carnival Cruise Line Returning to Baltimore

Carnival Pride

Carnival Cruise Line expects Carnival Pride to resume sailing from the Port of Baltimore on May 26, continuing the cruise line’s year-round homeport schedule.

Carnival Pride is expected to arrive in Baltimore on May 26, following a week-long cruise that embarked in Norfolk, Va., where Carnival temporarily moved its Baltimore operations after the collapse of the Key Bridge on March 26. The ship’s next sailing, a 14-day Carnival Journeys cruise to Greenland, is expected to sail round-trip from Baltimore. The ship will then continue its previously planned sailings, currently scheduled into the spring of 2026.

“We are extremely grateful to the officials and incredible first responders in Baltimore, who’ve shown great leadership and resolve in this difficult time, as well as our supportive partners in Norfolk, whose rapid response allowed us to continue to deliver our scheduled sailings for our guests,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “It’s been our goal to resume operations in Baltimore as soon as possible, and after working closely with local, state and federal agencies, we look forward to a successful return.”

Traveling for Thrills: Top Picks for Gambling Tourism

Brick-and-mortar casinos remain one of the most popular tourist attractions worldwide. Despite the massive selection of online casino games, offers such as the Ice casino bonus, and a wide range of online payment methods, brick-and-mortar casinos continue attracting lots of people. The most common reason for this is the social aspect found in these places. While at the casino floors, tourists get to interact with people from different cultures, religions, races, and other walks of life. Moreover, some of these establishments are breathtaking with their architectural designs. With that said, we look at some of the best places you should consider visiting for gambling tourism. Additionally, the article looks at what gambling tourism is.

What Is Gambling Tourism?

Gambling tourism is self-explanatory. It refers to the pleasure people worldwide take in traveling, not only for the sole purpose of sightseeing but also to play casino games in different locations. Of course, some people frequent these establishments because they believe they offer better chances of winning, but to others, it’s all about the experience. Gambling tourism is broadly categorized into two:

  • Visiting some of the popular traditional brick-and-mortar establishments in different countries;
  • Visiting casinos located on cruises.

Visiting Remote Establishments With Casino Cruises

One of the popular ways tourists navigate the world is through cruises. On these voyages, you can enjoy playing your favorite table game or slot machine by visiting some of the casinos found on board. Some of the best you should consider visiting include the following:

  • The Alaskan Cruise. As the name suggests, this is a cruise best suited for people located in Canada or the United States. In addition to enjoying the magnificent scenery of glaciers and plentiful wildlife, you’ll have the opportunity to play casino games on exclusive Alaskan cruises such as the Royal Princess. This means as you enjoy nature’s beauty, you can try your luck playing blackjack or spinning the roulette wheel at the tables. This creates a truly memorable experience that combines outdoor exploration and gaming thrills. However, you must remember one thing: gambling in Alaska isn’t legal. This means the casinos will only be open once the cruise liner has ventured into international waters.
  • Freedom of the Seas. Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas takes you through an unforgettable casino adventure while sailing through international waters. Located on the fourth deck, Casino Royale puts you at the center of action through its roulette, blackjack, and Texas Hold’em games.

Best Countries to Visit for Gambling Tourism

Having looked at some of the best cruises to visit if you are searching for gambling thrills, we now focus our attention on the second part of the article: countries that offer the best gambling tourism services:

  • Monaco. There’s no doubt that Monaco is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Whether you visit Monaco to watch F1, some of the oldest gambling establishments, or just want to see how the rich folk’s role, Monaco offers plenty of options for tourists. If you are a gambler, you’ll be pleased to know there are many casinos with services that novice players, low spenders, and high rollers can all enjoy. Ensure you visit the famous Casino de Monte-Carlo and see why it was picked as the perfect place to shoot Casino Royale (the film). Fun Fact: According to the country’s law, locals are not allowed to step inside a casino, nor are they allowed to place a bet. However, this is not the case for foreigners who have a free pass.
  • Canada. Despite having its online gambling spaces legalized in a few provinces, Canada’s brick-and-mortar casino industry remains one of the most popular not only locally but worldwide. The country usually receives international tourists who come to see some of the beautifully built establishments. However, before booking your plane, ensure you understand the laws of different provinces regarding gambling. Not all support gambling.
  • The United Kingdom. Listing the United Kingdom automatically makes you assume that London has the best establishments. While it might be true to some extent, the United Kingdom has beautiful casinos spread throughout the country. Whether you visit Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Cardiff, Glasgow, or Bournemouth, you’ll be happy with the services you receive in their casinos.
  • Australia. If you are headed to Oz land, there’s a high chance that Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex found in Melbourne or the Star City Casino in Sydney are on your to-visit bucket list. These are the most visited establishments in Australia, and it’s not hard to see why. Their establishments are not just casinos but also offer five-star hotels, theatres, sports bars, and other social amenities you won’t see elsewhere.

High stakes on the high seas – a guide to casino etiquette on cruise ships

Cruise ships are one of the most popular ways to see the world. You can travel across the entire globe and see every country you’ve been wanting to see. It’s a convenient way to travel for those who might be scared of flying, and a much more enjoyable experience for everyone.

You have everything you could ever need on a cruise ship. There are pools, restaurants, bars and even shops and cinemas. Another added bonus is that there is typically a casino on board as well.

Anyone who is worried about leaving their gaming behind when they’re on board doesn’t need to worry – it’s coming along with you! But what are the differences you could expect to find when you’re on a cruise ship casino?

We’ve got all of the inside info so you know exactly what to expect when you visit a casino on a cruise ship

Differences to expect at a cruise ship casino

High stakes on the high seas - a guide to casino etiquette on cruise ships | 18
Norwegian Cruise Line Casino
  • No need to carry cash

One massive benefit to visiting a cruise ship casino is that you don’t need to carry a wad of cash around with you in order to play. Most cruise ship casinos will let you charge any deposits to your room, so there’s no need to even have a card with you.

Of course, you do need to keep an eye on how much you’re spending, so it could be worth looking out for that. But as long as you’re sensible, it’s a really handy benefit. There’s no need to use the cash machines on board, which can charge a fee.

You can usually print off a slip at the end of your gaming to keep an eye on how much you’ve spent that day, so you know what to expect at the end of your trip.

  • Odds are not in your favour

One unfortunate difference between a casino on land and a casino on a cruise ship, is that the cruise ship casino will have worse odds. Obviously, the house holds most of the power in any casino, but this is even more prevalent on a cruise ship.

When you’re visiting a casino somewhere like Las Vegas, the payout is typically around 90%. However, when you’re on a cruise ship, this goes down to something like 80%. It’s still going to be fun, but don’t expect to be making your millions if you’re playing on board.

  • Table minimums are lower

So although the payout might not be as good, the minimum you have to put down in order to play at a table is lower. This encourages people who might not usually play to have a go as they’re not going to lose out on too much.

It also makes you play a bit longer and enjoy yourself a bit more as you haven’t had to part with too much money in the first place. This is a great benefit and means you can game more than you usually would.

  • Different opening hours

Most casinos you find on land will be open all hours, every day of the week. This is one of the biggest benefits to land based casinos as there’s always an opportunity to get a game in. However, this all changes when you’re on a cruise ship.

Cruise ship casinos will have much stricter rules when it comes to opening hours and therefore won’t be open all of the time. This is because when you’re travelling on international waters, the rules for any kind of gaming are different.

It also means that this could change during your trip, so make sure you keep an eye out for any changes in opening and closing times. It might be that only certain games are allowed to be played during certain hours, so make sure you check with staff on board.

  • More opportunities to socialise

When you’re at your local casino, there might be the regulars who are there just to play and relax by themselves. There might be people who solely want to hang out with the people they came there with. All of these are totally fine, but it does mean that there doesn’t tend to be much mixing of groups.

However, that all changes when you’re on a cruise ship. You’re all there together for typically a long period of time. Therefore, people are more up for getting to know one another. People also tend to be more relaxed when they’re on holiday so they might be more up for socialising.

This makes a cruise ship one of the best places to visit a casino as you know that the atmosphere is going to be great. It’s a great way to meet people you’re on board with and make new friends in the process.

Playing at a cruise ship casino is different to playing on land, but there are lots of benefits to be had. Will you be playing on your next cruise?

Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), the world’s largest cruise company, has announced that 100% of its ships across the global fleet are equipped with Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency global internet connectivity.

SpaceX’s Starlink Installed Fleet-Wide

The completed installation further enhances Carnival Corporation’s onboard experience for its guests and crew to provide even faster service, greater capacity, and more reliable Wi-Fi on its fleet of 90-plus ships across its portfolio of world-class cruise brands. The roll-out of Starlink is the latest in a series of innovations and investments from Carnival Corporation that have collectively quadrupled its fleetwide bandwidth since 2019 through its industry-leading connectivity strategy.

Rivals On-Land Connectivity

The upgrade rivals on-land connectivity experiences, enabling guests and crew to stay connected anywhere in the world, including sharing pictures and videos, scrolling on social media, streaming live content, and working remotely. The added bandwidth also boosts each ship’s operational and communications capabilities with more continuous onboard equipment monitoring and real-time connectivity and data sharing between ship and shore teams, along with the enhanced versatility to more quickly roll out new guest services and features, even while at sea.

“Starlink has been a game-changer for the onboard connectivity experience our cruise lines deliver to their guests, and we’ve already seen a surge in guest satisfaction and positive feedback from the super-fast and reliable Wi-Fi service we provide onboard,” said Josh Weinstein, CEO of Carnival Corporation. “We see this technology as a win-win-win – it provides our guests with more flexibility to stay as connected as they’d like on vacation, it allows our crew to stay in touch with friends and loved ones, and it enhances our onboard operational systems.”

Carnival Corporation began its fleetwide roll-out of Starlink in December 2022 with Carnival Cruise Line and AIDA Cruises ships, before expanding to the company’s other world-class cruise brands, which include Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn, P&O Cruises (Australia), Costa Cruises, P&O Cruises (UK) and Cunard.

The Starlink expansion further advances the company’s multi-provider strategy to deliver the same reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi service available on land while on board its global fleet of 90+ ships visiting more than 800 ports worldwide. Designed to support a variety of constantly moving vessels that sail all over the world, the company’s system leverages technologies from a diverse range of suppliers and is capable of dynamically routing internet traffic and optimizing network speeds to provide a consistent experience to guests across every brand and itinerary.

Alaska Seafood and Holland America Line Form First-of-its-Kind Partnership for Sustainable Seafood Education

On behalf of the nation’s largest source of wild domestic seafood, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) has announced a first-of-its kind partnership with Holland America Line, which will certify the cruise line’s dining and galley team members for their understanding of the species, benefits and responsible fishing practices of the Alaska fishing industry, via ASMI’s proprietary Seafood U® educational course.

Alaska Seafood – Sustainable Seafood Education

ASMI’s Seafood U Certification proudy on display of a Holland America Ship sailing Alaskan waters.

ASMI’s Seafood U® is a short digital course that can be taken from anywhere, even a cruise ship. It provides education on the various Alaska seafood species, health benefits, fishing methods, and overall sustainability practices of the state, which supplies more than 60% of our nation’s wild seafood. Seafood U® Training for Holland America Line’s culinary teams began earlier this year, in advance of the cruise line’s 2024 Alaska season. Approximately 2,500 shipboard team members covering six ships will undergo the training.

Serving Alaska Seafood

Serving Alaska seafood on Holland America Line ships has long been part of the brand’s immersive culinary experiences and commitment to sustainability. On any Alaska cruise, the line serves more than 2,000 pounds of Alaska salmon, 1,000 pounds of Alaska cod, 800 pounds of Alaska halibut, 500 pounds of Alaska rockfish, and much more. Guests can enjoy Alaska seafood-based dishes like an Alaska salmon chop salad or roasted fennel crusted Alaska halibut.

In 2022, Holland America Line was awarded Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification for all six of its ships that sail to Alaska, making it the first cruise line to achieve this distinguished credential by serving only certified sustainable and traceable wild Alaska seafood.

Committed To Serving Fresh, Sustainable Seafood

“We’ve shared the thrill of Alaska’s glaciers and wildlife with our guests for more than 75 years and supporting sustainable fishing and local business is an important commitment for us,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line. “With this new step, Holland America Line has committed to not only serving fresh, sustainable seafood, but ensuring our team has the knowledge to be expert sources to our guests as we cruise Alaska’s waters.”

Wild seafood is overall preferred 4:1, with products that are clearly marked as wild, and more so with the Alaska Seafood logo, being more desirable to shoppers.1 And while the vast majority of consumers want to eat sustainably, more than 3 in 5 Americans say they’re not sure which seafood is sustainable and which isn’t.2

“We know consumers are interested in learning about how to select seafood that’s high-quality, nutritious and sustainable. ASMI’s Seafood U® is available across various industries, so that anyone involved in the seafood industry, from processors to chefs and restaurant staff to grocery store seafood departments, can better understand the value of Alaska seafood,” said Leah Krafft, Foodservice Marketing Manager at ASMI. “We’re thrilled to take this step with longtime supporter of the Alaska seafood industry, Holland America Line, and hope it can serve as an example for how other operators can easily become more knowledgeable.”

Seafood from Alaska

Seafood from Alaska includes five species of wild salmon, cod, halibut, wild Alaska pollock, sablefish, rockfish, sole/flounder, crab and more that are available year-round. Alaska is the only state with sustainable fishing written into its constitution and the Alaska seafood industry goes to great lengths to ensure they only harvest what the environment can support, meaning consumers can feel good about choosing seafood from the area, whether that’s on a cruise ship, from a restaurant menu or from the seafood case, freezer or shelf-stable section of the local supermarket.

The Seafood U® training course is available across industries and beneficial for staff anywhere seafood is bought, sold or served. To inquire about access to the training program, please reach out to Leah Krafft at lkrafft@alaskaseafood.org.

Holland America Line World Cruisers Knit Blankets for Children in Need

With 128 days at their fingertips, guests on Holland America Line‘s 2024 Grand World Voyage aboard Zuiderdam used their time and their talents again this year to support Project Linus, a not-for-profit organization that provides handmade blankets to children in the U.S. who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need.

Throughout the world cruise — which departed Fort Lauderdale Jan. 3 and will conclude back in Florida on May 11 — approximately 150 guests participated in the project, knitting more than 500 blankets utilizing over one-million yards of yarn.

Project Linus at Sea has been going on for more than 20 years on Holland America Line’s Grand World Voyages and is led by guests. Holland America Line supports the guest volunteers by contributing materials and helping secure space on board where they knit and crochet the blankets.

“This is such a welcome tradition on the Grand World Voyage,” said Henk Mensink, Zuiderdam’s general manager. “Guests love it as an extra sea day activity, and we’re all glad to be doing good for some children in need.”

Grand World Voyage guests Gail and Marty Gottlieb, who led the project on board for the fifth year, helped to source the one-million yards of yarn directly from manufacturers, with funding from other guests and Holland America Line. Before embarking in January, they sorted through it all in their garage and then rented a trailer truck to haul the supplies to Fort Lauderdale. Once on board, guests jumped at the opportunity to get involved in giving back on the world cruise.

“This is a great cause and unfortunately, the need is still there. There is a lot of camaraderie among guests making blankets for the children and we are glad to have another successful effort,” said Marty Gottlieb.
