Re: Give Me Liberty or Give Me the Big Cats 9/15/07 (or Give Me Both!)
Well, since the Steelers opened up a big old can of whoop a$$ on the Browns, I am sure Tommy is okay. I am surprised that Beef O'Brady's was filled with Steelers fans - I think that's the major hangout of Ohioans down there during Spring Training for the Indians, so I would think it would be mostly Browns fans there. He called us as we were on our way back from the hospital, so we know he was fine just before kick off. We had to pass all the people heading to the game when we were headed to the Clinic this morning. It's going to be a long season......
Greg wanted to make sure that I conveyed his thanks to everyone. Thanks for your kind words and prayers. Everything continues to head in the right direction. When we were there, they told us that they wanted to get him extubated while we were there, so we visited for a while, then stepped out so they could get the tube out, and then we went back in and spoke with him. He's groggy, but he's doing well. Before the tube was out, Greg made a comment to him about the game today and he was trying to smile while he had the tube in, so he really couldn't, but to us that was a sign that he was "all there" and knew we that he was hearing us too.
George referred to "divine intervention" so I thought I'd share the story with all of you. On Wednesday night he was home, moving a ladder from the side of the house back to the garage. He tripped on uneven concrete and cut his arm open near his wrist. He's on blood thinners, from previous issues, so he had to go to the ER to get them to stop the bleeding. He was kept overnight because his blood pressure was incredibly low, and because he has a pacemaker, they wanted to make sure he was okay. Well, they kept him 2 nights and on Friday morning they wanted to EKG to double check before they discharged him. This is when they found what they thought was a bruise to the heart and they decided to fly him the Clinic for care. Once he got there, they discoverd it was a 90% tear to the aorta, not a bruise. Not good. You know the rest of the story. But while we were waiting for him to get out of surgery, Greg's sister Michele said that she thinks that his tripping with the ladder was meant to happen so that this could be discovered with his heart. If he hadn't tripped, they wouldn't have known about it and who knows what would've happened if he didn't get medical attention when he did. Keep in mind that Greg's dad also went in for knee surgery 6 years ago and ended up getting a pacemaker instead of knee replacement because his heart rate was the lowest that his nurses had ever seen on a patient who was alive....So someone up there is looking out for this guy!
So, keep doing what you are doing by keeping us in your prayers, because it's working!
And George, Greg prefers gloss to lipstick. But that's okay, when you two are skipping and holding hands, it really won't matter what shade you are wearing.
