I travel a lot for work ..... but try to keep up with this board. Unfortunately, my time is limited and I don't post too often. I'll try to do a better job. We've been on RCCL 92 times so if anyone has questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

OK, I'll be going on my third cruise in 2010, but I'll be glad to post on here if I can help.

I use RCCL almost exclusively lately. Great product and really nice ships.

Wow, San! For only your third cruise, you sure are knowledgeable! We've done a couple of RCCL cruises ourselves.

Took a whole bunch of virtual cruises! .........Sorta like three dayers,:D

OK, OK, I've taken a few more than three. I'm an expert on Radiance class ships and somewhat on the Visions.

Sealover, I'm with you, it doesn't take only high cruise counts to be able to contribute. Quality counts;).

So, what does everyone think about the direction that RCCL is going with mainly concentrating on the mega, mega ships and amassing huge debt? Also, what do you think about the movement to more a la carte offerings aboard their ships?

Virtual cruises are pretty good if you have a vivid imagination, PH.

san josea, for what it's worth.. I'm not a fan of the new mega ships...I've been on 2 of the Voyager and that is as big as I want to cruise. I'm from the old school & like a smaller more intimate ship experience...and don't get me started on the debt...I've been watching my stock drop like a rock...:(

I,for one, love the VY class, but also like the smaller ships................Im going to miss the Sovereign when she goes,as well as the other Sovereign class ships.....I had a super time on the Empress.........

I am wondering if RCCL is thinking ,maybe, just maybe they should had stuck to smaller ships now............with the economy the way it is..

S/L.....I know what you mean about the stock.....I bought at $19.60 a few years ago.....went up into the 50s briefly......but now it's worth less than what I paid. When I consider how much On Board Credit I have received I am still way ahead. Now that they won't allow us to combine On Board Booking credit with the stockholders credit there is no reason for me to hold onto it anymore. I think that it is going to go down a lot further in the coming months due to debt and slower bookings.

PH, I agree about the smaller ships. I'm just wondering if RCCL will have to start laying up or selling the Visions as passenger bookings go lower. I really hope not because I like the size of them and the RDs a lot. There seems to be a lot of excitement about the Oasis and Freedom class, so I can't say that the direction of RCCL to larger ships is the wrong one. Economy of scale will eventually help them out, I'm sure. The Euro is coming down against the dollar, so that will help some of the debt for the Oasis etc.

I have only been on one ship larger than the RDs and that was the Mariner 5 years ago.

I agree with the smaller ship preference. We've been on Freedom once, and really didn't care for it. We like the AD because we like so many of the crew, staff and officers. Our favorite class is the Vision class --- nice size. We like feeling like we're on a ship and not in a hotel, which I think the Oasis and Allure will look like.

Someone mentioned not being able to combine onboard credits with shareholder credits? When did that start? We just got back from a cruise where we had both the onboard credit and our shareholder credit??

Thanks.

Think it is effective mid Oct sometime Libby.....

Can this benefit be combined with other offers, onboard credits and coupons?
Shareholder Onboard Credit is not combinable with other onboard credit offers, general loyalty offers, “dollars off†promotions and savings certificates. Guests have the option to choose between the shareholder benefit or the other offer. The benefit is NOT available to company employees, travel agents, tour conductors and/or others utilizing complimentary or reduced-rate cruise fares.

I think the Oasis and Allure are for people that want a vacation that doesn't seem like they are at sea. FR class would be the same for me. I think that there may be another FR coming.....but that may be on hold right now.

The Visions still look somewhat like a ship versus the newer hotel like ones.....with the SP and LG looking the best.

I just read on another board that RCCL is going to take steak off the menu as an option in the main dining room and start to charge extra if you want a steak instead of the other offerings. Has anyone else heard this??? Someone said they will be charging something like $14.95 for just the steak. That same post made the point that why would you pay for a steak in the main dining rooms when you could go to Chops for just a few more $$ and get the steak and more.

I bought my stock when in was in the mid $20's...and I haven't done as well with the OBC... it just really irritates me that they won't let us use a C&A coupon with the stock obc.. don't really understand the reasoning on that part..

oeshpdog, I had heard the rumors about the extra charge for steak as well.. can't confirm as we don't do the dining room anymore, we either do chops/portofino or the Windjammer..

I am getting to the point where I may be more likely to consider other cruise lines, hard to stay loyal to a company that doesn't seem to value my business anymore...

This is about the third time I've heard the steak issue mentioned ---- not much detail yet (ie. fleet wide, tested on a particular ship, etc) I think it would be a mistake. People who want those steaks would end up in Chops - drawing in a group that might not ordinarily go there ........ perhaps pulling reservation spots away from the 'big spenders' that go for the meat/drinks/ and all the extras that aren't included with the basic $20 coverage. I usually take a wait and see - I'd never pay extra for a 'deluxe' steak especially since my understand is that they'll still offer their basic steak on the same menu. Just my opinion.
