Sealover. Just had no problem with a C & A coupon for the discount. Then e-mailed in my proof of stock and got my OBC.
There are so many rumors and comments out there, tend to "find out for myself"

Jim, from everything I've read cruises that were booked before Oct 15th or 18th ( I forget) can still combine the coupons & stockholder OBC, after that they will only allow 1 offer per booking...

I called Corwn and Anchor last night and they verified the combination of discounts would not be allowed for any cruises booked after October 15th. Apparently an e-mail is supposed to sent out mid-October.

With this latest change, RCCL's stock is really going to tank as people who have been keeping it for the OBC dump it. If you're getting OBC for booking on board and you can't use the shareholder benefit, why own it any longer? I too bought in the mid 20s and have gotten my cost back with OBC. Now I'd just like to see it go back around my buy price and it will be gone in a heartbeat.

This nickel & diming everyone is not going to help RCCL's cause. Between the $14.95 steak in the dining room and other extras they're coming up with, they are going to be losing people to other cruiselines. I was just reading this morning that the Monarch which is replacing Sovereign has a Jade restaurant where you have to pay for the sushi ... $2. here, $3. there, $10. for a combo plate. I don't think they'll be seeing me there. At least the ships with Johnny Rocket's gives C&A members a coupon, so you don't have to pay.

I really believe that RCCL should increase their cruise fare to cover their additional costs and profits. I think newer cruisers will go along with the the extra charges for this and that as they don't know the way it used to be where it was much more all inclusive. But more seasoned cruisers may go elsewhere. I don't begrudge RCCL trying to make a profit.....I just wish they would do it without the nickel and diming.

I have a feeling that the $15 steak will fall by the wayside shortly.......too much negative press on it.

Libby, Chops was $25 last month on JW.

BB, I think you're right about others selling their RCCL stock if it doesn't allow them to get additional credit......it's just going to make it go down.

There's been rumours about the C&A Program changing for sometime now.....I don't know if it's true, but if it changes in ways that people see it as a take away, they will have more people migrating away.

On the other hand, the Freedom Class and the new Oasis class will allow them to advertise things that are sure to attract up and coming cruisers who will fit right in.

Someone on CC heard from a ship's captain that RCCl will build a new Marco Polo Class similar in size to Radiance Class after the Oasis class is done......don't know how good the information is, but sounds good.

Ya got me too, San. What is a "Marco Polo" class? Is it a ship loaded with swimming pools with some people yelling MARCO and others yelling POLO???:lol

I still think with all the D and D+ out there, RCCL has to do something. Maybe Ds should get a coupon for each day of the cruise for a free drink at any bar between 5 & 8:30. D+s get to use CL in the evening. They have to do something. CLs are too crowded and at the present way of doing things, it isn't going to get any better.

I don't know what Marco Polo is and I can't find out. I just saw a posting about it over on CC.

I don't think that anything will be done about D/D+ until the economic climate changes....they're not going to risk turning off pax.

Hi! I am pretty new to these boards. I've cruised Royal Caribbean three times with a fourth on Oasis next December.

Yes, I heard about the 14.95 steak. Some people have said that they had both the steak in the dining room and the 14.95 steak on their cruise. Personally I wouldn't choose to pay 14.95 for steak. If I want to pay for it I'd go the Chops instead.

As for as nickel and diming is concerned, we choose what we want to pay for on a cruise and that's it. However I hope the cruise lines don't start getting too al la carte on things. The day I have to pay for all food and entertainment is the day I stop cruising.

I think Rhapsody is a very nice ship. It used to have some of the best food of any line out there. I don't know what Oasis will be like, but it is an engineering marvel. I've never been on an inaugural and didn't intend to until this ship came along. It will be something to see!!!

With the stock market plunge the last few weeks....which impacts everyone to some degree....I wonder what actions RCCL will take to compensate for lower booking numbers. I wonder if cruise lines will have to lay up some of their smaller ships until things get better.

I've checked capacity of some of their ships ......... no one seems to be cancelling many of their cruises in the near future. Also -- bookings spring into summer next year seem to be moderate ..... maybe a bit slow but many people still seem to look for discounts closer to sailing dates. It may be too early to say the 'sky is falling' in the cruise industry. If the markets start mellowing - and start some growth after the first of the year, they should be fine. As things improve slowing ..... the media won't be hopping on it like they have the fall of the market; they can't whip people into a panic frenzy and thus the news coverage of a recovering market won't be as widespread.
Most financial analysts see some slow, but steady growth after the first of the year.

Libby, I hope you're right, but everything that I hear says that this will begin correcting in the months to come, but it's going to be a long, long haul.. There's too many lost jobs, people upside down with mortgages and people way over extended with credit for it to turn around quickly. People will have to cut back on discretionary spending big time. If you listen to Paulson, he's saying it will take 9 months to a year or more before the recent actions will begin to take effect

If I were to feel like I need to cut back I wouldn't cancel cruises right now, but I would definately have it in the back of my mind to do so. I wouldn't cancel until 70 days out uinless I needed the deposit. I don't think the full impact of the market plunge has really hit everyone yet.

You have to believe that there are some heavy duty meetings going on at cruise lines right now to make sure that they can survive. Not to mention airlines.

Good points. And I guess because we are lucky enough to have employment (secure) - no debt, and are not over extended ......... we may fare better than some. I've talked to my sister who has been in the business (travel, partly cruise) for a number of years said that after 1987, 2001 and in 2004 ...... when things were really bad, her business was down for about 2 months --- but once correction had started - and people were out of the panic mode, her books started to tick up again. Here's hoping!

We have a partial transit booked for April 2009 on the Jewel. We have been on the Explorer, Serenade, Adventure and have done 1 Carnival cruise on the Miracle. I am really looked forward to being on another Radiance class ship. I love the size and the use of glass. I am also hoping the food is better than our Adventure cruise in May.

Any of you been on the Jewel lately and how was the food. I ask because i think food quality differs somewhat from ship to ship. (It shouldn't but it seems to.)

We were on Jewel last month and found the food somewhat disappointing, but it's still good. The main dining room menu now has the alternate selections as the main, more prominent offerings with relatively less appealing items interspersed. Lobster is gone, but they had giant prawns in it's place, which were pretty good. Chops, as always, was great for us. We stopped going to Windjammer for lunch as the dining room was much more appealing and had better food.

I think that the stock market will start inching it's way back up soon when investors get out of the fear mode. I'm not sure the general public is going to bounce back so quickly this time. There's even more bad news about banks this weekend.

OK, darn it, this is depressing....I've got to stop talking about it:D
