Need More RCCL Posters

Thanks for the update.
I know food is subjective- others on the same cruise thought the food was good. =huh We did have a sea food night on the AOS that featured shrimp and a lobster tail. This was great for me since I am usually not such a great fan of lobster and prefer shrimp anyway.

I am just trying to imagine 10 days of unimaginative evening menus. It sounds like we may need to plan for Chops one evening and the Windjammer as well at least it will give some variety. I don't know if they still do this but we did eat one evening on the Explorer and they prepared steak to order. I am not sure that they are still doing this................

Judi, I agree with your subjectivity comment about food. When getting information on food quality on a cruise line you need to know the responders history of cruising in order to check the validity for you. We have been using RCCL for twenty years, so we have seen the quality and presentation of food in our eyes diminish from the "good old days".

The up and coming generation will always be impressed with RCCL, the ships, activities and food when first stepping aboard.

I'm sometimes a grumpy old b*astard, so concider that when reading my posts:D

Though I agree with the food being subjective ...... and have cruised for about 13 years, frankly - if I don't have to shop for it, cook it, or clean up after it --- it has to be pretty bad for me to complain. I also think after so many cruises, though we do enjoy the dining in many different fashions, it's not so much 'all about the food' anymore, as long as the overall cruise experience is good.

Libby, I think that if the cruise lines were not "nickel and diming" us, the food would be of less quality....I just wish that they would raise prices somewhat and continue with nicer stuff.

BTW Judi, the one time we ate dinner in the WJ on Jewel, they were not cooking steaks to order....in fact, they didn't have steak at all.....just roast beef.

At this point - I suspect raising their prices, especially in this economy, may not be a crowd pleaser. But I'm with you - I'd rather pay a little more and have some of the extras back (ie. lotion on the staterooms ....... picture coupons in the books............).

I have to agree about not shopping, cooking and cleaning up after. For me the service is the best part of cruising and RCCL does a great job on service. I have always come away from my cruises feeling as if I have been pampered and that is a great thing...

I think we just need to broaden our dinner options and use the specialty restaurant and even the WJ one evening. Maybe even the Seaview Cafe if it is still there. It will certainly give us more selection. At least I know what to expect - thanks for your input. We did sign up for Anytime Dining so I think that alone will be a change of pace - knowing we don't have rush for the 6:15 or grab a snack in order to make it till 8:30 will be nice for a change.

The service on Jewel was excellent, whether it be the room steward, waiter or assistant waiter. The Concierge was one of the best I have met. The staff will make you feel special.

San - Glad to hear the Jewel is still doing the things that have kept us coming back. On our Mariner cruise last May and on Sovereign a couple of weeks ago, the dining room service left a lot to be desired... Cold escargot and very slow service. Definitely not what you'd expect. Both of the cabin stewards did the bare minimum and did not fill my request for ice during the day. That's one that gets me ... Why would I want ice at night when we're out of the cabin and only go back to go to bed? I want it during the day when I might want a glass of ice water. That's a dumb cutback, if ever there was one!

Sorry to hear that they have eliminated lobster night too. More nickel & diming! Even on a three night Carnival cruise you get lobster. With all the cutbacks, might have to look into doing one of theirs again. Carnival is less expensive than RCCL, plus they still give upgrades. Could be one of the reasons RCCL stock is around $16. and Carnival is around $30.

PH - Remember on the Mariner how when I asked for the lotion our cabin steward left me 15 bottles?::eek: Maybe she thought I would distribute it to all the cabins around us!

BB, is it still true that Carnival is cheaper and still serve lobster? Was it you that said Carnival has dropped the fuel surcharge.

Carnival Corporation has resisted getting into the race for the "megarest ships" in the world and do not have the huge debt that goes along with that direction. Carnival Corp has had higher ratings as stock buys than RCI for a long time.

Ice is a nit!!! so's lotion!:D

To me booze is the hard stuff...................wine is more refined and doesnt need to be labelled such an uncouth word such as BOOZE..

Well, you know me, I tend to be on the uncouth and unrefined side....so I really don't know any better.
