Pucci Update

Again, thank you for your comments.

Is Pucci's meal microwaved? Not only is his canned food microwaved about ten seconds then mashed, but he is hand fed. Not only is he hand fed, he prefers his food on the CONVEX side of the spoon, not the concave side as normal "people" use.

I'm well trained.

Ha ha, Mary Ann, is that a silver spoon he eats off of? When he is with a sitter is he also hand fed? Maybe that's the secret to a long life for a dog. Kiefer starts getting hand fed tomorrow!

Kiefer and Asha get a high quality grain free dry food twice a day, and different additions to give them some variety, always some kind of protein. Last night they got pieces of grilled burger cut up into their food. They BOTH had no interest in food this morning! Their dry food was still in their bowl when I picked it up for dinner.

No, the spoon isn't sterling silver, but it IS special. Years ago, we bought a stainless steel flatware set from S.A.S. (Scandinavian Airlines System). The pieces had unusual shapes. The set got pretty worn out, but I saved the soup spoons that have an east-west shape. These are the spoon that Pucci (and Topaz before him) likes.

Pucci is on a very limited protein diet - his prescription foods are low protein, and the only meat he can have, other than what's in the canned food, is his little bit of turkey at lunch. If you put burger in Kiefer's and Asha's food, you really don't think you'll get by giving them plain dog food, do you?

Glo, you can always try beaver meat. That's what the sled dogs get when they're really tired and won't eat anything else! Please note that I did NOT say getting one would be easy!

We tested again today for his urine-protein-BUN-creatinine ratio. Should have results tomorrow or Saturday. Please God, there will be some improvement....

We can always ask Calgon to go find one or two beavers?

In the morning they get only their dried food with high grade salmon oil on it. Unless I see they aren't eating, then they get dry food only, and they can have it if they want it. Dinner is when they get something added.

:thankyou:

A couple more updates about Pucci. Another protein test was done yesterday - thank God, his reading has come down a full point. Still not near the normal range, but much better. GOOD BOY, PUCCI!:clap:

Yesterday, he developed a sore in his right eye - very irritated and his eye was bloodshot (no, no one slipped him a drink). An ointment was prescribed that I administered while still at the Vet Hospital. As the evening wore on, his eye got worse and worse (looked horrid by bedtime), so I took it upon myself to use his prescription eyedrops in the eye. That seemed to help. His eye was looked at today - I've given him his usual eye ointment. Keeping fingers crossed now. Always something! His record now shows never to prescribe that ointment again.

Kiefer is toasting Pucci's protein test results, and ran to tell Asha the good news! Sorry to hear about his eye, poor little guy. Please let us know how he does with that.

Kiefer wants to know how his cousin's eye is doing, and how he's feeling? He also hopes his auntie is doing well.
