[large]Considering booking he RC Jewell for a trans-atlantic next Sepember. My one experience on the Brilliance of the Seas was a disaster for many reasons. and I want to know if service, food and entertainment has improved... and since we love the service on Celebrity will I I be disappointed?[/large]

I am surprised you were not happy with the service on a Royal Caribbean ship. Of my six Royal Caribbean cruises the service has always been steller and on par with the service I have received on Celebrity. You won't be disappointed if you give them another chance.

The last words as I left the ship were by the employee selling cruises was ..."what do you expect from a cheap cruise"... I swear--=huh Eventually the whole experience was told to a RC Sales Supervisor at a travel show and she knew that person personally....that's while I was booking my first Celebrity cruises..

Wow, that is a surprise. I suppose every company has their "attitude cases". I have always found Royal Caribbean employees friendly and engaging. Sounds like you just ran in to one of the bad apples.

JUST MY LUCK:girly The topper was there was a young man on a motorized wheelchair who we would run into all over the ship (the ship was beautiful) and when the father asked he he could leave earlier than his color he was told ... and I heard this personally from the same man..."you will have to wait your turn".. Oh.. did I mention I broked my wrist the first a.m. of the cruise....due to poor planning and designing of the jacuzzis i their beautiful solarium...lol

I'm not sure why you are considering Royal Caribbean for a cruise. It appears that your mind is already set on the line not coming anywhere near to your expectations, and the first problem that you encounter on Jewel will ruin your trip. I'd play it safe and book Celebrity, they have Trans Atlantics.....but don't do the northern route and Iceland.

REASON why we are considering this particular cruise...the itinerary, the itinerary, the itinerary.. and the big plus is that it ends up in our home port of Boston... No, I'm not a grouch, nor picky..but you have to admit my one experience on the BOS was a disaster.. Nothing ike a broken wrist the first day on a cruise where your looking forward to spending morning in the jacuzzi..try it some time...or maybe dont

The top step of the inside jacuzzi was tile..not wood.. and water was spiling over (the sea was rough) and even with holding onto the rail going down....I slipped and fractured a Colles fracture.(check it out) Parrot Pop was able to take pictures of the crew vacuuming the water around the jacuzzi.. On every ship I've ever been on.. and that's in w24 years.. I've never seen tile on the first step coming out of the jacuzzi..it's always wood..

OK, I still think that you should choose Celebrity for your cruise. You'll be looking for little things to go wrong on RCI and will be disappointed in your choice.

BTW, most likely the reason that the man was told to wait his turn is that they sort bags by color coding, they will start to call departures when the first colors are off the ship and sorted in the terminal. If you have a later color, you may not be able to find the bags and would be waitin g in a chaotic luggage area. He was probably given good advice.

Hi Parrot Mom. Go with what sanjoseca is recommending.

We were on the Jewel 10-day Panama with earl m. The ship and itinerary were fantastic. The cabin service was very good. The entertainment was also very good.

We found the dining room service to be fair. Our waiter was poor. Items were ordered, which never showed, showed late or were served to the wrong person. The assistant waiter was the saving grace in the dining room. She was attentive and really appeared to try. The food was good. Nothing really stood out as being that great.

The Windjammer buffet was not anything over the top. I suppose I don't care for self-serve for a variety of reasons. Chief among them being the folks who stick their fingers in the food to taste test (witnessed), pick up items (by hand) change their minds and then put some back.

We really enjoyed the adult spa. It was one of our favorite places on the ship. The top step being wood or tile doesn't really stand out. To be honest , I don't remember which it was/is. It was never a problem.

Again, go with sanjoseca's recommendation. The slightly higher cost will pay off in significantly increased quality of "the little things."

I don't have a problem with RCI cruises, I have generally had very good luck with them. I know from experience though, that when someone has reservations about a decision like parrot does, that they will tend to look for minor things that validate their original reservations and that will result in the person wishing that they had gone with their original gut feeling. I seems to me that it is a recipe for a bad experience.

X(YOUR awfully judgemental... I'm a Gemini and i can change my mind on a spinning dime..It would be great to avoid Barcelona...again and see Iceland..but when you hear my tale of woe of the Brilliance of the Seas.. you see I have reservations.and I was hoping you would convince me that the Jewel is wonderful and I should go. I trust Calgon..lol..and when we do narrow it down..will let you know my decision.. but that won't be untll January or February 2010..just putting together my options.

If you read ALL the posts you will see I am telling you my experience on ONE RCC ship and asking if my experience might be better on the Jewel.. Calgon gave a clearer answer.. now I guess it's up to me isn't it.. Am I a glutton for punishment and expect the worst..no. I don't..But I do expect on my cruise ships..service and good/decent food..I don't care about the decor or the art work..and after 20 some odd cruises I do not go after picky things.. as you can read.. my experience on my one and only RC was a disaster..a week living on pain meds, not being able to get dressed or enjoy myself.. But don't worry.. RCC paid dearly for that cruise..and I will not elaborate.

If I went on a ship and it was such a disaster,I wouldnt even consider it...........same goes for horrible hotel, restaurant, etc experiences. There are too many other choices out there. Why go with one that left such a bad taste in your mouth?? I sorta doubt the itinerary will make up for the cruiseline..I agree,I think your mind is made up already...go with Celebrity.
