Oh Calgon.. your such a "card"..for a minute I thought I was on "the other board".. My analagy is we went to a new restaurant years ago and it was bloody awful.. actually went twice.. did not go back for four years (true story) and when we did go back.. we were pleasantly surprised.. the kitchen was under new management and it's become one of our favorites..Also, there is a chain here in the Northeast called Bertuccis..and normally we don't do chain restaurants.. but the research and development is is not far from us and a one of their restaurants close by is their test kitchen... (am I rambling0 If THEY read the OP I was talking about one particular ship and I'm sure that the Jewel would be under different management and chef..As for Celebrity.. we have only been on their smaller ships..no, they are not perfect.. but in certain areas they absolutely shine..You all forget RC owns Celebrity. and what they institute on RC they institute on the other... Ive aways been of the opinion that their Celebiry was a bit more upscale...but I have in the past few years hears raves about Royal Caribbean.. THAT'S IT.. the truth and nothing but the truth

For a second I thought Calgon I was "on the other board"..lol..A better analagy might be.(this is true) we went to a new local restaurant several years ago and it was pretty bad..We went back recently for whatever reason and it was fabulous.. managment, i.e. the chef had changed and the food is to die for. Now, I know RC owns Celebrity.. and Celebrity I always thought was their "upscale" product.. Celebrity isnt perfect.. and what eventually changes at RC are passed down or up to Celebrity... So, the initial question was..what is the Jewel like.. Calgon answered succintly(sp) the food may not be as good.. Now..here is a small secret.. the last Celebrity we went on..the food was a disappointment.. now tey have a new chef...BTW just for your info.. the RC Jewel t/a is not inexpensive or discounted anywhere yet.. i have a "bucket list" and I've just visited one area (the Amazon) and Iceland is also in that bucket.. So stay tuned..

I think you think Calgon is succinct because s/he has the same opinion as you.

No, no, no sanjoseca; you misunderstand. It's not that I have the same opinion as Parrot Mom; it's that the rest of the world either now has, or eventually will have, the same opinion as ..... me. Follow me, for I have seen the light and it is good. the light is an all-penthouse ship, sailing an endlessly calm sea, filled with beautiful people, foods I can't pronounce, sauces that are way too rich and a never-ending supply of frozen thingies .....

(OK, so maybe I have been sucking a bit too much of the swill, but .... Hey, it's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!)

Mom, relax and book your cruise. You're going to have a great time and the errors of the past will not return.

Hey..Calgon, will SunFlower get jealous.. they think we are "lovey dovey".... well, since I believe in honesty.. Calgon and I met on a board I believe more than ten years ago..and I remember his famous "packing list".. lost track of this wonderful man. and now have found my soul mate again..Oh yes, Im a bit too old for Calgon, but mentally we are on the same wave length. At my age... and it's over 70 Sanjoseca but as I tell people I've been places that others only dream about.. I'm no sitting in a rocking chair. Do you know the problem with retired people like Parrot Pop and myself... there are no days off..lol

So, Calgon thinks like a 70+ year old. Interesting:D.

BTW, we just came off the Serenade and I was quite pleased with the food. RCI's food is at a cheaper level than Celebrity, but it was cooked well, presented well and tasted good. The same on Jewel last September on her TransAtlantic. The windjammer Cafe, in my opinion, is always low quality food, not presented particularly well and basically cheaper wholesome food that I find boring. Celebrity's casual dining is done much better.

Service in the Dining room has always been excellent, but I tend to get the waiter and assistant waiter relaxed from day one so that they are not wondering how they're doing. I tell them early on if they are providing excellent service.....I also tell the Maitre D' and the head waiter the same thing about the waiters. It works for me, cosequently we have few problems with service.

Booze, sex, rock and roll and getting angry with young whippersnappers?? That's what I think they think about.

NOW WE ARE ON THE SAME PAGE!!! A nice bottle of wine.. a little Viagra before hand no rock and roll.. we are musical theatre buffs and as for those "young whippersnappers'... well, we don't run into them too often on two week plus cruises, but the nicest compiment from one of them once was "I want to be like y ou when we get older"... WHOSE OLD!!! BTW saw you were on the Summit.. told it was going to be rehabbed and next summer or the summer after that it will be doing Bermuda

Well, if you want hints about that trip don't hesitate to write to me.. we live outside of Boston and have done that trip.. twice.. and I'll clue you in on the ports. There are some wonderful ports in N.E. and Canada...although seriously, I wouldn't have chosen October...foliage is long gone

I'm color blind, I don't go for a bunch of dead or dying leaves. We've done this voyage before, but on RCI, we go for the cooler weather and the very interesting ports.
October is still too darn warm here, so it's nice to get away from the heat. We always take Northern itineraries, Baltic, Northern Europe, TransAtlantics, Canada / New England, Alaska and Coastals. Caribbean is not to our liking and we stay away from there.

I think men age much better than women..more distinguished.so dont you worry about getting old (tu)

Well, that goes without saying, Calgon already knew that. There are some perky old gals out there that look good though.
