Two Carnival Cruise Passengers Drowned In Separate Incidents On The Same Day

On Friday, officials confirmed that two Carnival Cruise Line passengers met tragic drownings in separate events in the Bahamas.

Carnival’s statement detailed that one individual drowned in a lagoon while the other perished at the beach, both occurrences taking place at Celebration Key, a private getaway for Carnival patrons situated on the southern coast of Grand Bahama. This area features a water park, a beach club, lagoons, and dining establishments.

The deceased persons were a 74-year-old female and a 79-year-old male.

“One guest was traveling with family on Mardi Gras while the other was enjoying time with family on Carnival Elation,” Carnival expressed in their statement. “Our heartfelt condolences are extended to the guests and their families, and our Care Team is offering support.”

According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, law enforcement was alerted to the first incident just before noon. Officers discovered the 79-year-old male unresponsive aboard a commercial vessel.

“As per the initial report, the male lost consciousness while snorkeling at the beach,” police conveyed in a statement. “A lifeguard retrieved him from the water, and CPR was administered, but it proved ineffective.”

He was declared dead by a physician, according to police.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., authorities discovered the 74-year-old female unresponsive aboard another commercial vessel, as per the police report.

The woman had lost consciousness while swimming in a pool, and a lifeguard who aided her out of the water performed CPR, which unfortunately was also ineffective, leading to her pronouncement of death.

“An autopsy will be conducted on both individuals to ascertain the precise cause of death,” police remarked. “The inquiries are ongoing in both cases.”

Carnival and law enforcement chose not to disclose the identities of either of the individuals.
