The Carnival Sunshine is now sailing from Port Canaveral Year-Round offering 5, 7 and 8 Night cruises. The ship also offers families amazing options for a fun time together as it is the only Carnival Cruise Line ship having all of the Fun 2.0 Enhancements. Here are some of the top spots we found onboard that we think are Must-Do’s for families.
1.WaterWorks – Once onboard change into your bathing suites and get ready for Carnival Sunshine’s WaterWorks. This is not just big, but it is the biggest in entire the Carnival Cruise Line fleet. It features the new Speedway Splash with dual side-by-side 235-foot-long slides that lets you race each other and has the times displayed on a scoreboard. It even features special lighting effects that add to the excitement. Overall the WaterWorks includes five different slides and forty different interactive water features kids of all ages will enjoy. You can’t miss the 150-gallon drenching bucket which is the centerpiece of theSplashZone Kid’sarea. For those looking for a thrill you can take a ride on the334-feetTwister Slide which is Carnival’s Longest slide on any ship. It offers exciting twists and turns for guests of all ages. Lastly, You’ll also get an amazing view of the ship and sea while waiting for your ride down the slides, so bring your waterproof camera.
2. Sports Square – This is an outdoors recreation and sports area. The main feature is theSkyCourse which is a ropes course offering fun and adventure for the whole family. To get started guests strap into a safety harness and choose from a beginner or intermediate course before traversing across suspended beams and ropes and swinging steps nearly 150-Feet above the sea. Parents remember you’re strapped in and If you’re worried just follow your kids lead. If you’re not one for heights you can jump onto the basketball court, a two-level nine-hole mini-golf course, a jogging track, foosball, ping pong, pool tables and more.
3. Cucina Del Capitano – Nothing signifies family to me more than a good meal together. So I highly recommend,Cucina Del Capitano. It means ‘The Captains Kitchen’ and offers Italian-American dishes. The recipes are inspired by Carnival Cruise Line’s Italian captains’ and officers’ childhoods and are served up family-style in a comfy, eclectic environment decorated to feel like an Italian country home. Vintage images of the lines captains and ships adorn the walls. Your family can try the free lunch-time pasta bar during the day or have a full dinner with a charge of $12 per person for dinner.Tip:Book the first night to get easy reservations and be sure to Order Nonna’s Meatballs – they are magnifico. 4. The Warehouse – This is the Video Arcade aboard Carnival Sunshine and it features wall to wall fun for the whole family. I chose this because it is truly one of my own families favorite after dinner spots to visit. We all break off into our own areas and play our favorite games and cheer each other on in the process. My wife and I love to battle it out on the Air Hockey games and my youngest daughter loves the Skee Ball. Remember you don’t need quarters on-board, you can use your sign and sail card to buy game credits.
5. The Shake Spot – What could be better than a nice Shake? This new Fun Ship 2.0 element is currentlyonly available on Carnival Sunshine. It offers cool classics like handcrafted shakes and floats. You’ll find the basics like a Vanilla Shake or even a Root Beer float. However, This is a cruise so why not a Tropical Flavored shake or an Adultsvariety of Spiked Shakes and Floats. It is a great way to cool off and get out of the sun. The menu has a great variety so take a good look before you order. View the Shake Spot Menu.
