Hey y'all,

Cris, the Freedom class is awesome! But as I wrote in the email, they are also considerably more than the Mariner. Other considerations were for those in Florida to stay closer to home and not have to endure the hassle of the commute, nor parking expenses (Raddisson at the Port has a very reasonable Stay and park rate). Why we are certainly happy to save a few bucks, we are open to whatever the group wants to do. I'm certain Arrielle would love the H2O Zone, but she would love to see the group even more. Like you, we only get to cruise once a year as well (I don't see California falling off any time soon and Phoenix becoming the next port of call on the west coast :D ) and our preference would be able to see / sail with all of you, than not. Certainly the ship is important, but sailing all of you is even more important. Rumor has it RCCL will be deploying a Freedom class ship to Port Canaveral in place of the Mariner in 2009. With that in mind that would be an idea worth considering in 2010.

I think I am far more excited about Alaska than Anne...she has a preference for warm weather and the Carribean blue waters. I'm gonna have to work on her for this one. I'm certainly gonna have to re-think how I research travel when it comes to this one. As Jim wrote earlier, this cruise will mark our Platinum status, so we would also like to consider RCCL as well due to the perks. With that stated, we will do whatever the group wants to do...we are open to anythingthis far out. My only concern with Princess is kids programs available for Arrielle to do.

Or, Cris, the ship is going backwards!

Ok, so I haven't been on in a few days, so I have lots of explaining to do, I guess. And I also have to defend myself for not posting pictures yet. Remember, our modem was down for 4 or 5 days too!

So, earlier this week, my mother warned me that my brother might be visiting this week, because he wants to move back to this area. If you remember, 2 or 3 years ago he caused me anxiety when he moved to my town and I was hoping that he wasn't going to spend tons of time popping in unexpectedly. Well, he's living with my parents right now, in part because he was traveling a lot, and in part because he's a mooch! Now his company is in this strange bankruptcy/reopening stage, and he's not sure if he's going back with them. He has now decided that it's time to move closer to me again, and then hopefully my parents will finally get their house on the market in Louisville and get their butts up here.

On Wednesday I checked my e-mail at lunchtime at work, like I normally do, and I have a message that he wants to know if I want to go to dinner. WHAT? How about calling me and telling me you are going to visit and need a place to stay??? So I called him and he was already half way up I-71 North of Columbus. We met at my house, went through some classifieds, then headed out to check out a house. He liked it, wants to rent it, and he could be up here to move in as soon as the 15th. Well, I am leaving out the part of the story where he embarassed me by really foul language and innuendo at the rental property and his poor treatment of the server at the restaurant we stopped at. He left Thursday morning (thank you God) and we know that they are checking his references so that hopefully he can get the house and stop bugging me to look for houses!

So, last night we were busy watching the Indians kick the Yankees butts, and of course, we are hoping that they'll beat them again tonight. (Sorry Jim - I think that's your team, isn't it?)

Today, Greg went into work, and while he was on duty, a call came in to the Station for an ambulance run to the nursing home that his dad is at. And, of course, it's his dad. He's been doing remarkably well. Well, today, his sugar levels had dropped to 15 - normal is usually at least 80 - and he was having trouble breathing. They took him to the ER and gave him fluids, and also identified that he has an infection So, he's being admitted to the hospital as I type this, but is only expected to stay over night and then return to the nursing home. Yesterday we were told that he should be getting out of the nursing home on October 12th, which is Greg's birthday. We're hoping that is still the case, after today's events. So Greg took the rest of the day off and I'll get a further update when he gets home from the hospital. It doesn't sound like a big deal at the moment though.

I guess I should get my mind on cruising because that does make me happy!

Regarding the Freedom-class ships, I am definitely up for doing one of those again. I had absolutely no problem with that ship, in fact I loved the LOS and hope that I get to sail on that ship, or another ship in that class sometime. We kept on saying that it reminded us of a "stretched out Mariner." And we loved the Mariner. Like Jim, we just hit PLatinum Status and we're thrilled about the extra discounts and higher Crown and Anchor discounts that come with that. I think what got us talking so much about the Mariner for next year was the similarity to the Liberty of the Seas and the fact that we are all (I think) trying to watch the cruise budget in '08 so that we can afford the Alaska cruise in '09. And, we really prefer Port Canaveral too. It's always easier for us to get a cheaper flight into Orlando with good timing and no layovers. I was really discouraged by the number of direct flights to Miami this year, the horrible flight times, and the fact that I couldn't get a real plane (not a puddle jumper or toy jet) to go direct to Miami other than AirTran, where we had to have a layover and also several (8?) flight time changes.

And on to Alaska...I am making up for not posting with this long post....I am open to any and all cruiselines and combinations of ships/trains/landtours. So, I'm open to everything for '09 and I am willing to consider everything. My only slant would be that with these repeat RCCL cruises, I might be biased a bit to RCCL but if another cruise line offers a great experience for the cruise dollar, I want to consider it. The way I look at the Alaska cruise, I am going to start saving for that now, and I don't want to feel like I missed anything when we cruise, because I do see this as a once in a lifetime cruise.

Phew - my fingers are tired! I hope I covered everything!

Hope everyone is off to a good weekend so far. It's going to be warm here.

Re: Give Me Liberty or Give Me the Big Cats 9/15/07 (or Give Me Both!)

I was typing so long that George got in there with a post. That's a good question - does Princess have a kids program that would entertain Arrielle? I'm with you, George, on the point about being together. I am getting to the point where I am not as interested in the ship as much as I am enjoying cruising with the group. Again, I don't want to go back and sail the Jubilee again, but as long as the ship has the ammenities that I like, goes to ports that interest me at least a bit, for me the real reason I am enjoying this group cruising thing is because of the fun we have on board together. (This is where I mention the F-Mary-Kill game that you hoped we could forget about!)

And Jim, the H20 zone thing - was Calum not allowed because he wasn't 3, or because he was in a diaper? The reason why I ask is because I spent a lot of time around that water park and I saw the security lady approaching parents, and even saw one frustrated mom show the kids bare bum so that the woman would see that the little boy wasn't in a diaper still!

Wow...Sheree sorry to hear what is going on with Greg's dad...we will say a prayer for him. That was a very long post young lady!

I know what you mean about perks...I do think Royal Caribbean has a great program but when we sailed Princess Cris and I were Elite Members because we became Comodores in the Princess Academy so we got bumped to the top and let me tell you they really know how to roll out the carpet for their repeat guests. So I am with you all on that and totally get it.

Yes, Princess had a kids program but won't Arrielle be what they call a "tween"? That inbetween age. Princess has a program for them as well. I can't tell you anything than what I learned in the Academy because I don't have a child to experience it first hand. I do know that Princess is the only cruiseline that has an actual park ranger from Glacier Bay come on board to teach both young and old all about Alaska Glaciers. Holland and Princess have been the two cruiselines with the longest history in Alaska and are the only ones who have their own resorts in Denali Park. I know Royal has a tour through Denali but not where you can do a land package to stay in Denali. I am not sure if Royal does the Glacier Route yet or not. They are releasing their 08 Alaska to us in the coming weeks. In the past they have only had the Radiance out their doing Inside Passage round trip Seattle. For example if you do Inside Passage the only way you can see Glaicer Bay is to take a shore excursion and fly over it. When you do the Glaicer Route one way ex: Vancouver to Anchorage or Anchorage to Vancouver you actually sail through Glaicer Bay. You also hit the inside passage ports on this sailing. Just food for thought. Also when you open a group with Princess even the triple and quad cabins can take advantage of the low deposits. Princess has like six ships sailing Alaska and they sell out fast. Okay so I am done with my Alaska Seminar :lol

I am being called into the next room!

Bye for now :wave I hope I answered some questions about the kids program George. I can send you a video if you want.

Hey - a victory by either Cleveland team today would really cheer me up! I'd like to see the Browns beat the Patriots and the Indians beat the Yankess (sssssssssswwweeeeeeeep!) but I know those are pretty lofty goals so I am just asking for one today. The Indians can wait until tomorrow to beat the Yankees just to not embarass them too much.

Re: Give Me Liberty or Give Me the Big Cats 9/15/07 (or Give Me Both!)

Why can't I figure out how to do the quote thing????

Anyway - I was waiting for my Royal Carribean Credit Card to arrive, and it did arrive this weekend, so I am ready to book. I haven't booked yet but I do have one on hold. I'll book tomorrow too, but I my vacation can't be approved at work until the first of the year, so I won't be "official" until then.

So the sports gods were against me today! The Browns lost bad, and so did the Indians. I am hoping the Indians can take it back tomorrow night. George, do you follow the Diamondbacks? I know the Dodgers are your number one team, but are you a fan of them at all?

Greg's dad is doing fine at the moment. I know I haven't posted an update. They are giving him antibiotics and they've got his blood sugar levels up. Tomorrow they are running and EKG, and if everything goes well, we are hoping that he'll be discharged soon. Everyone is hoping that he gets discharged to home versus the nursing home, so that would be really great. I'll let you all know about the EKG tomorrow.

Ok - that's it for me for now. I can't seem to get caught up on stuff around the house since the cruise. And the weekends seem so short....

Re: Give Me Liberty or Give Me the Big Cats 9/15/07 (or Give Me Both!)

Good afternoon all,

Well, it's official we are now booked for the Mariner. We have cabin #1392, an aft deck 10. Not sure how excited we are about an adjoining cabin with the Windjammer directly over our head. It is an aft though and we wanted to make sure we got one prior to the prices going up. We may reconsider this cabin for one of the hump cabins, need to discuss a little more with Anne first though. Sheree, like you, we are not completely official until the time has been approved from work. But that is merely a formality being that no leave time of ours has been denied in 18 years of employment with our employers. We also use the RCCL Visa as well. We have enough points for a free 4-day cruise, which we will probably take this summer.

Absolutely not!!!

So is your love of the Diamondbacks somewhere equal to my love of the Yankees? I really hate the Yankees.....and I have since birth. It comes with the territory when you are born into a family of Orioles fans!

We are booked now as well. I just firmed it up less than an hour ago. We're a few cabins down from you George, at 1692. I also talked to my boss today and she said that though she cannot approve it, she has no plans for September, so she thinks I'll be perfectly fine taking the same week off again. I'll try to set up a ticker soon - since I am dying to see a ticker that says something like "11 months, 3 weeks and 5 days until your cruise" or something like that! I sure hope I like this RCCL Visa card - because I am going to get rid of my Continental one now, which is the one that I use most of the time.

I got an e-mail from Barb today and she and Greg really liked the Liberty too. I haven't heard from Chris and Mike though - our tablemates. I am hoping that I hear from them soon and I'll invite them along for next year. We really lucked out to have a funny couple like them at our table this year.

Ok - off to set my shows to record for tonight - Dancing with the Stars on one station and the CBS comedies on another - so I can watch the Indians hopefully knock the Yankees out tonight!

Well guys...I am a little taken back that you did not give me the opportunity to book your group on the Mariner or even the individaul bookings. I can only say that my feelings are a little hurt by this. I really thought my friends would consider supporting me.

Denise, I apologize for getting back to you so late in the day. I seen your post just prior to walking out the door this morning and I just didn't have time to properly respond to your post. First, I know I speak for all of us when apologizing if your feelings have been hurt. You have known all of us long enough to know none of us would ever deliberately set out to hurt your feelings in any way. Like all in the group we have always been very supportive of any endeavor you have chosen to undertake; with only the best of wishes for your continued success. The decision to book through Lori was based merely on favorable past experiences with her services. She has always provided us with the best pricing and great perks...even though we have never qualified for group benefits. With that stated, even with our past positive dealings with her, should things go sour, a clean break would be much easier becuase we have no personal relationship with her. For Anne and I, based on bad past experiences, we just don't do business on this scale with Friends and family. This appears to be the prevailing thought amongst the whole group. You know, we are not the easiest group to deal with; God knows I wouldn't want to undertake such a task. It is because we are your friends, and always want to remain your friends, that we chose to book through Lori. I hope you can understand our reasoning. And once again, please accept our sincerest apologies if your feelings have been hurt, it was by no means intentional.

Re: Give Me Liberty or Give Me the Big Cats 9/15/07 (or Give Me Both!)

Dee - same here - I don't think anyone would ever want to hurt your feelings. Greg and I have been happy with the job that Lori has done for us and we just automatically went with her because of how she has handled our business in the past. Please understand that we didn't intend to offend your or hurt your feelings in any way.

If I can share some good news with the group - for once - Greg's dad is being discharged from the hospital tomorrow. Everyone is happy that he is going straight from the hospital to home. Before his recent trip to the hospital, he was supposed to be home on Friday, Greg's birthday. When Greg was talking to his mom tonight, they were making plans to pick up his personal stuff at the nursing home, then, in their words, "spring 'em from the hospital." I can tell you that this should do amazing things for his dad's mental state. He wanted nothing more than to get home! I am sure it'll be a matter of days before his mom and dad are back to bickering the way they were a month ago, before all this bad stuff happened!

I am sure that Greg thinks that this is the best present....but, I am sure I won't get off that cheap!

Hi Dan - yep, we're going to catch the Mariner in September before she goes out your way.

We're getting excited here for the next round of the baseball playoffs. Though the Indians are only my second favorite team (to the Orioles) it's hard not to get excited about them. Everyone here is catching on to the excitement. The only thing that worries me is when the games go late and I don't get enough sleep!
