'morning Cats.

I survived day one at work, and I guess I have to go back for day two today. I had fewer voicemails than I expected and my e-mails weren't bad either. There's just a lot to catch up on. Thankfully my boss is off this morning so I should be able to get myself organized a little better and dig in a little deeper today.

We went to visit Greg's dad last night and he's doing really well. He gave Greg a list of things to do over at his parents house and then his dad broke down crying about how he doesn't know how he's ever going to repay everyone for what they've done. I told him that he's earned so many "flood credits" with us that we really aren't even close to paying him off for that. His dad was the first person that I called when the water became overwhelming 2 summers ago when we flooded. Anyway, he laughed and it gave him chest pain. Good job on my part, right? The highlight of the visit was when his dad slipped and told Greg that his neice is pregnant. She's been afraid to tell Greg. I had to calm Greg down a little bit - I don't know if he was more upset about her being pregnant or the fact that his family has been keeping the news from him. Greg can't understand that no one wanted to tell him because they were afraid he'd want to go pound on her boyfriend! Oh well, we ended up talking to her last night and she's happy, so we're happy.

Well, off to work I go. Yippee.

Wow Sheree! How old is Greg's niece?

On the other website, I was reading a review of your sailing, was there an emergency rescue? Does anyone know what happened???

Good afternoon all,

Decided to drop in real quick, Anne is at the doctor's office right now.

Well, today was my first day back to the grind...I should have taken another day off!!! All kinds of issues that took place during my absence. On a sad note, the gentlemen on life support I wrote about a few weeks ago, passed away Monday night.

Sheree, is this the niece you recently had dinner with?

Dan, on the way back to Miami the ship had to make an abrupt stop to pick up two Cuban refugees spotted in the waters at approximately 2:30 in the morning.

Did anyone see the picking up of the refugees? Where did they sleep? Were they sent back to Cuba?

George, sorry to read about the passing of the person on life support!!

Have a good rest of the week!

Good morning all,

Going to Lowes today to schedule the counter-top installs. One more thing off the list. We were going to go granite until we seen the 8k price tag that came with it. Now we are just going with an upgraded laminate, don't really want to put much more money into this remodel...we have cruises to think about :D

I'm going to try and the pics up on webshots today. Jim, most of the dive photos came out...except the stingray photos :( I'm going to get a better camera for next time. Speaking of next time, I'm going to see a nose/ears/throat specialist to see if there is anything, short of surgery, that can be done about my vertigo/equalization problem. Don't think I can continue diving if they can't. Arrielle has a discovery scuba session at a local dive shop on the 15th, I hope she likes it.

Hi guys - great pictures. Made me re-live some of our great moments together!

The Cable Guy came today and replaced the modem in the middle of the Browns game. I am so glad that the internet is up and running - I do think I am addicted because I didn't know what to do with myself for the last few days since I could't get on! Oh - and the Browns won. Yippee!

Orlando Girls - welcome back! Tell us how much fun you had!

And Greg and Barb left on the Liberty today. I am hoping they have good weather. I know Miami was a little rough earlier with lightning storms.

My computer just blew up right before I could send my mini review....That drives me insane!!!!!! Okay enough venting...lol

Hi guys were back!!!!!

I am glad to see all made it back safely. I can't belive you picked up refugees, did you watch the rescue? Did it happen day or night? Fascinating!!

Sheree, it's funny you told your nieces C.P. experience, Doris ordered a birthday package for dee an has a similar story. I will let her tell you when she recovers from partying....lol

Highlights of the cruise: Movies under the star, LOVED IT!! FABULOUS!! FANTASTIC>>> can you tell how great they are. Of course the first night was football and it was a beautiful clear night. Tuesday we settled in on our Movies under the stars lounge chairs with wool blakets, popcorn and candy to watch Wild Hogs which we purpously did not see hoping to see it on board. About 3/4 through out of no where come a rain storm, we were on the upper deck with no cover in sight, so we made a run for it. lol soaking wet!!!!! But we did see a bunch of movies while in the pool during the day.
POOLS...4 of them on deck 15, awesome, a heated spa pool, a music pool, a movie pool, and the best...the back pool with chairs facing the very rear of the ship. My personal favorite, Julie and I a few nights went to the Cafe Caribe (Lido Dining) and got our dinner and they have seating outside on deck overlooking the back pool and ocean, we loved it so much. On our last night the four of us had champagne and dinner out there. It was the perfect ending. The Champagne pour, i loved that, they had a band and danicing and a big hoopla while stacking the champagne glasses in a pyramid and then you can take a turn pouring the champagne, so of course I ran up and when I got up there I did not realize I was suppose to put my hand over his so I stood there like a nut posing for the photo, it's histerical, I will post the photos when I get them developed, I am not digital yet..lol Anyway I wanted to go again so Julie came with me and the photo is fantastic.....

Okay so those were our most favorite of the ship....

Food: I thought the dining room food was much better than RCCL or CCL. Some days the lido dining was the same and some days better. I do agree that it is selective to each persons perception. Desserts just as bad as RCCL AND CCL with the exception of Dee's birthday dessert which I think was calld the love boat chocolate dream and that it was!!!!

Sabatini's Supper Club: Ambience was great, Dee and I sat on a mini sofa while the girls dined on chairs, it is advertised as an italian eatery, however the entree's ommited anything italian...lol They start you with a wonderful antipasta of olives, romano cheese, artichokes, sundried tomato, anchovies, yuk!! Then we got the most wonderful ricotta cheese flad with a dollop of roasted tomato on top, and a mini crabcake are you hungry yet..lol, then we had a soup or salad, dee and julie got salad and liked it, Doris got a tomato soup with fresh seafood, she loved that, I got a something I was not sure fit what I read, but it was like a chicken broth with mini carrots and potato with white beans, no flavor!! from there we had parpadelle with herbs and ravioli, both of which dee and I were not fans but julie liked it and dor never got to eat it because she want back to the room to get dee a beano...lol , after the pasta we got our entree's, Dee and I had what we thought was going to be stuffed chicken with herbs and butter and truffle potaotes, but what came was a chicken breast with a mini leg shaved down for presentation and skin on the chicken, while it was moist I could not eat it so Julie switched with me, she had lopster but it was overcooked, I believe doris had veal and liked it. Dessert was the best expresso creme brulee that I have ever had, it was amazing, and Dee had her love boat chocolate dream.

Stering Steak House: Julie and I opted not to go and dine outside, Dee and Doris went and I will let them tell you....

Some of the downsides: The ship was very understaded and boring in decor, they had some smaller bars that were quiant but overall BORING!! The escalator up to Skywalkers disco was very cool. There were alot of older people and we had the ship to ourselves at night because they were all in bed by 11pm...lol the two shows we attempted to see were not good and the one comedien was also not good.
The piano man in crooner's bar was great, it's a bar off of the 3 deck promenade, we frequented that place for our favorite bartender Henry and server Justin, they were wonderful to us, Dee and Doris lived here...lol

Coral Dining room, we got to dinner about 9:45pm and they were rushing us and and not friendly, the Palm restuarant, we arrive about the same time and we told them upfront we did not want to be rushed and that was much better.

They do have a lot to do, such as ceramics, bingo, games at the pool which were great, however their daily Princess Patter is very difficult to follow and frustrating.

Overall the ship was nice but we would never sail her again. I think we determined that we are Carnival Girls through and through...lol Although I really want Princess for Alaska in 2009 for the land and sea package.

St. Thomas was The best part of the trip was swimming with the sea lions...I will post photos and they will tell you how incredible it was, they broke us up in the water in two pairs, we had Franko the sea lion and dee and doris had rommie, we got to love on them and play games, and they jumped over us, we got photos of everything.

We made it back to Orient Beach in St. Martaan, we had a great day, we drank bushwackers and swam in the carribean sea.....

We loved princess cays, Julie and I got off early and it was very cloudy so we found a great little tiki bar that served drinks in a carved coconut head and tried several different ones to get the monkeys for our tiki bar at home...lol we went snorkeling and found our way back to the ship early so we could watch movies by the pool...Dee and Doris had a lounge chair cabana and vegged out and chatted with people we met on board and later met us at the pool.

We met some awesome people on this ship and hopefully some will check in on the boards and perhaps sail with us in the future.

I will check back on Tuesday and hopefully I will have all the photos back and I will post them.

George, we got your email about the Mariner next year, the "O" gilrs love traveling with you all but we can't travel on the same ship twice if we can only have one cruise a year. Dee and I need a Carnival fix, have any of you taken a look at the Freedom or Liberty? They look great, so think about it!!!! If you have your heat set on Mariner we will have to just plan for Alaska 2009.

okay I think I am stuck in the chair, the only drawback was driving home from Ft. Laud, we are all stiff...lol

I am off the the sofa to catch up on soap operas and cuddle with the dogs...

xoxoxo

Re: Give Me Liberty or Give Me the Big Cats 9/15/07 (or Give Me Both!)

Hi Girls,

Glad you made it back safely. Sounds like you have mixed feelings about your cruise. I forget, which cruise were you on? Sounds like the median age was more than Carnival/RCCL.

That's one of the new things we wish RCCL would implement. I wouldn't be surprised if the Genesis class has somthing like that.

Anne still talks about that beach and the bushwackers. Planned on goig this year, but I got sick from the dive once again and didn't feel ke doing much when we got back to the ship.

Were these the same folks from your group thread here?

Cris, you realize the Liberty and Freedom are the same as the Glory? As I recall, neither of you cared for the layout, nor the service.

All the more reason to go on the Mariner next year...it's a stone's throw from you :D Could have been worse though, you could have had a five hour layover in Atlanta with us :(

Cris - glad you guys are back! I am glad you all had a good time, though it sounds like your overall feeling is kind of mixed. I also hope that the Movies under the stars catch on for the other RCCL ships too - I've always wanted to do that. Were the restaurants that you mentioned the ones that required an additional fee? Did you think that they were worth the additional fee on Princess? We talked about how we felt that is one thing that RCCL excels on - and that Carnival wasn't so great at. We really enjoyed Chops together as a group this year, and they served our large group very well. How did the cabins rate compared to Carnival and RCCL?

I can't wait to see the pictures with the sea lions. Was that in St Thomas or St John? I can't wait to hear more. Dee, I hope you post soon! And of course, Julie and Doris should also chime in on cruise details!

The rescue of the Cuban refugees was pretty interesting. This happened on the last night as we were about 45 miles from Miami. It began at about 2:30AM when we heard "Code Oscar, Port Side" announced and repeated. Greg and I went out on our balcony, but we didn't see any other Big Cats go out on the balcony. I think Jim said he was out there, but we didn't see him. We met the neighbors above us and chatted with them about what was going on. Anyway, we heard a lot of noise coming from the crew below. (There was a crew deck a few decks below our balconies.) Anyway, we saw the little rescue boat come out from the side of the ship and circle back around the aft of the ship, and return. Our ship had shot out flares into the water to mark our location when we stopped. They cut the motors on the ship and there was dead silence. It was really eerie. We heard yelling when the little rescue boat went around the aft of the ship, and we did see it stop in the water, but we don't know if that was when they picked the men up or not. The ship was also using the searchlight, which again, was pretty creepy when the motors were cut and it was so quiet out in the ocean. At the time this was all going on, we thought someone had fallen or jumped. At about 3:30, the Cruise Director came on and said that we had picked up 2 Cuban Nationals after cries for help were heard by people on the 12th deck of our ship. It was quite an interesting event, and we were over an hour getting back into Miami in the morning, we still managed to get off the ship rather quickly.

George mentioned the adventure in Atlanta. We were on the same flight from Miami to Atlanta, then spent time together in Atlanta waiting for our planes. We were supposed to have a 3 1/2 hour layover, which ended up being close to 5 hours by the time we took off. George and Anne left after we did.

Anyway, glad you are safely back, even though I am sorry it's over! I know that it seems like we've been back more than a week after having a rough week at work.
