Think you could smuggle bottles into the Ice Bar? Guess you need to ask a native.

Hello!

I have to just offer a thought to those who wonder why one would cruise on a line that prohibits wine brought on board.

I joined Cruise Addicts after booking our first cruise in 2002. We were in our early 30's knew nothing of cruising at that time. Well we have cruised X 4 now and once on RCCL. Kinda got into the entire cruising thing....brought 2 bottles of my fav wine to enjoy on the balcony as we don't party in the bar)I even brought my own coffee maker and Starbucks! Feeling like we really knew what we were doing! Well, we had a huge family crisis and almost lost a family member last year. These things can really trying times for people but by gosh, after canceling our NCL cruise for 2006,we are back on board for a cruise again in 2007! Trying Rhapsody! Well, I had no idea they had banned bringing wine on board! I was busy trying to take care of my family instead of reading the latest thread. For some, having your own wine on board is very nice. Even if only a $20.00 bottle of wine never seen on any of my 4 ships ( Columbia Crest). Had I known, I would not have booked with RCCL. Now I am kinda stuck. I just wanted to give an example tothose who can't seem to understand how some of us may feel about this.

I just dont understand why someone would pick a cruise they like(ship, itinerary) and then want to cancel cuz they cant bring(or should I say they are discouraged to) alcohol on board??

I dont pick a cruise cuz of the alcohol policy......I pick it cuz it takes me somewhere i want to go on a ship I like......call me odd,but thats how I choose a cruise.

I also think that there is a very good reason why RCI doesn't have Columbia Crest onboard.

We enjoy wine on our balcony, not at dinner, not in the bar. Colombia Crest (sorry, large bottle is $16.80 with tax at least in MN) is the only wine I do like. I get headaches from other wines. I can plan to spend probably close to $150-$200 now by pre ordering wine for my cabin ahead of time. $30.00 for my own headache free wine for the week vs $200 for wine with potential headache. Had a not had a great JS cabin, I would have canceled and gone with Princess. No problem PH8 that you don't understand, but no problem for some people to be very displeased with this new RCCL policy. Maybe if enough people are upset, then the rules will change.

What good reason not to offer CC on a ship?

Its not that I dont understand........I understand what you are saying...i just think it crazy not to cruise a ship cuz you cant bring your wine........I enjoy a drink on my balcony too,but would forego it if need be......I dont need it that much.......

And ALL the wines give you a headache??Funny cuz the cheap ones (like CC would give me a headache but the higher quality ones wouldnt)...........

Oh, sorry. You stated in your post that you didn't undersand.
Yes, of the Chardonnays that I have tried most make me sick. Have I tried "ALL"??? Or coarse not. All of the Robert Mondavi chardonnays, which are so popluar and occupy a pretty big section on the wine list on the ships I have been on with the Private Selections, Ghost Oak and the cheaper Woodbridge all have the same effect. Kendell Jackson is the same also. Those are the varieties that I can afford.

So unlike you, my cheaper wine doesn't make me sick.

Then you are lucky....dont have to spend much..........

And when i say I dont understand,of course, I do.....it just doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me............maybe I should have used that terminology instead..........

This all seems like a lame excuse for smuggling booze aboard RCCL ships. How long did it take you to find brands that were not on the wine list?

I don't smuggle my wine, I just don't care for the wine list on RCI so I bring what I like and what they don't carry onboard. Still spend plenty on wine and other drinks. I just prefer some better wines then they serve.

I've even requested that they improve the wine list and gave them suggestions.

Call it whatever you like. But taking onboard alcohol is not allowed. Hence "bring what I like" is smuggling.
I don´t like their wine list either and have given lots of suggestions during the years. However, wine knowledge is not the best onboard RCI.

So you carry it on so they can see it as you check in??

I have always carried aboard my wine and never had it taken. I haven't done it since July but I had no problems doing it then.
