John,

I'm originally from NYC and my brother still lives there. I've only gone with the Bay Bridge Tunnel. Taking I-95 through Baltimore and DC adds about 90 miles to the trip. Route 13 on the eastern shore has traffic lights and you have to slow down through towns, but I think it's still a lot quicker.

After you go over the Delaware Memorial bridge I believe you're on I-295. Stay on that about 4 or 5 miles to route 1. It's a toll road ($2.00 total) but it gives you an interstate like road until you're south of Dover Delaware, where it will put you on route 13 towards Norfolk. A good deal of the distance is 65 miles per hour speed limit. Also, there's a free bypass around Salisbury Maryland.

The toll on the Bay Bridge tunnel was just raised from $10 to $12 each way on June 1. After you get off the Bay Bridge Tunnel you'll be on Northampton Blvd. That will take you right into I-64. To be honest I'm not sure whether you're better off getting on the expressway, or just taking Northampton to downtown for the Radisson. But if you take I-64 you want to get on the entrance that says Virginia Beach - Chesapeake and take that to I-264 west to Norfolk. I-64 does a loop around Norfolk and in parts the eastbound direction goes west and vice versa. So in much of this area they don't put east and west on the entrance signs. They just put what city it heads to.

If you need specific directions just give a shout.

Marc

Suer,

I spoke to my TA on Friday and confirmed that they were making payment on Monday. I'll give them a couple more days and then check. If it hasn't been posted by this weekend I'll give her a buzz on Monday. The HAL agent seemed very adament that I didn't have to worry about my reservation being cancelled.

Thanks Marc, I'm going to take that route. I haven't been that way in years. I really wanted to avoid the Baltimore-DC area because I will probably be catching the end of the morning crush.

My sister had a snafu with her final payment last year, TA fouled up and hers was 2 weeks late being paid for and she still had the same room and no problems. Cruise line wasn't all excited and told her not to worry.

John please give the info to DW. Men and directions don't mix. We want the 3 of you there safe and sound.

Orcrone, you might not have anything to worry about, but I would call the TA, just to confirm that HAL hasn't received your final yet and it is being taken care of in the future......

I've been checking WVEC TVs Norfolk webcam for over a month now. This is the one that usually points towards the pier and can be used to see if the Maasdam arrives on time. It has been off-line with a message stating that it's currently being repaired. My guess is that it's permanently down.

BTW, men never get lost. We meant to go that way.:grin

We went into Norfolk Friday for a Tides (Mets AAA team) game. While driving there I was thinking "71 days we'll be heading this way for the cruise".

Hi all! Today the first digit of the days-until-we-sail changed to a "6" :) And to think it was just a short time ago when it was 100+ days. It's not a bad time to do some shopping for the end-of-summer clearance sales for cruise wear. I'm looking forward to this sailing. It will be upon us before we know it!

Maureen,

Picked up bathing suits that way a couple of weeks ago. And not only are we down to 60 something, but we're now under ten weeks, so we're weekly sdms.

I filled in my immigration stuff online a couple weeks ago. I haven't decided on doing any of their tours yet. I want a clamshell for HMC so I'll have to wait until I get onboard for that.

So E's being a jokester huh? Well, if he want's to sail alone, I think you should sail alone on a World cruise. That would be a even swap don't you think?? :)
