John,
I'm originally from NYC and my brother still lives there. I've only gone with the Bay Bridge Tunnel. Taking I-95 through Baltimore and DC adds about 90 miles to the trip. Route 13 on the eastern shore has traffic lights and you have to slow down through towns, but I think it's still a lot quicker.
After you go over the Delaware Memorial bridge I believe you're on I-295. Stay on that about 4 or 5 miles to route 1. It's a toll road ($2.00 total) but it gives you an interstate like road until you're south of Dover Delaware, where it will put you on route 13 towards Norfolk. A good deal of the distance is 65 miles per hour speed limit. Also, there's a free bypass around Salisbury Maryland.
The toll on the Bay Bridge tunnel was just raised from $10 to $12 each way on June 1. After you get off the Bay Bridge Tunnel you'll be on Northampton Blvd. That will take you right into I-64. To be honest I'm not sure whether you're better off getting on the expressway, or just taking Northampton to downtown for the Radisson. But if you take I-64 you want to get on the entrance that says Virginia Beach - Chesapeake and take that to I-264 west to Norfolk. I-64 does a loop around Norfolk and in parts the eastbound direction goes west and vice versa. So in much of this area they don't put east and west on the entrance signs. They just put what city it heads to.
If you need specific directions just give a shout.
