some info on St. Maartin

courtsy of Jeff Berger Publications.JMB http://www.jmbcommunications.com/privacy.html . “JMB
Communicationsâ€Â

If you’re jewelry hunting, Front Street Philipsburg is the place to go. There are many fine jewelry
stores here, but our favorites are Zhaveri Jewelers at both 53 and 103 Front Street. For the Summer
Vijay is in charge; soon Deepu returns from thei r store in Ketchikan, Alaska, and he’ll be in charge
all Winter. You can bargain at Zhaveri as you can at other stores, the people are great, they deal
with high-quality merchandise, and they stand behind what they sell. We strongly recommend them. See
www.zhaveri.com and www.jmbcommunications.com/sxmshop.html . Do say hi for us when you visit.

We also recommend the Windmill Shop on the south side of Front street west of the town center
(before you get to the 103 Front Street Zhaveri store), for souvenirs and especially island t-shirts
and other chatchkis. Great selection and low prices. Say hi for us when you go.

Also try Rima, which is moving (or maybe has) from its store on the pondfill diagonally opposite the
Lekkerbeck (Heineken) green airplane to a much bigger facility a few blocks away, still on the
pondfill.

They have a tremendous assortment of pareos, great tropical shirts and blouses for men, women, and
kids, and many nice souvenir chatchkis. The shirts are the same ones the local ladies sell at the
markets in Clem Labega square in Philipsburg and on the waterfront in Marigot but at a fraction of
the price; in fact, those ladies buy their stuff at Rima. (Bet you didn’t know that…) Great place to
buy very nice-looking but inexpensive gifts for the folks at home. (Note: no t-shirts are here.)

Also look at http://www.peglegpub.com/gear.htmlmentioned in last week’s special “restaurant†edition. Order online or, better yet, go to Peg Leg
and order some of their stuff. The hyperlink takes you to a list of their stuff with pictures.
Ladies: we dare you to wear some of their tops….

The French side has classy stuff, boutiques with continental handbags, perfumes (Oro de Sol in
Marigot has a huge selection and often has new fragrances before they are sold in the U. S.),
couture, etc. Check the West Indies Mall overlooking the outer harbor - - and especially visit the
bathrooms (really).

Don’t leave the French side without stopping by Blooming Baskets by Lisa
www.bloomingbasketsbylisa.com , where you will find stunningly unusual hand-designed handbags and
the folks who make them right on the island. There’s a large assortment in stock in many sizes and
they are real head-turners. Blooming Baskets also has some exquisite Bali Bags. Say hi for us to
Michele and Lisa.

For “Fly Me To St. Maarten†license plate frames, SXM Euro oval t-shirts and sweatshirts, SXM Euro
Oval car stickers, and our new oversized iridescent green SXM luggage tags (which are super for
kids’ backpacks by the way), see www.jmbcommunications.com/sxm.html. Reminder: you will get a
license plate frame free when you do a five-year renewal of your JMB Website Supporters membership
(while supplies last).

and internet cafe info. again from Jeff berger publications.

14. Rundown of Internet Cafes

The following is based on the personal research of our friend Bruce Cameron during March 2003 and
2004. Circumstances and rates may well have changed.

Phillipsburg
On Front Street go to the end where the cruise ships arrive - look for #7 - upstairs. A little cafe
with computers for $5 an hour. Pleasant spot for drinks and coffee.

Simpson Bay
Across from the Palapa centre is a an outdoor deck and internet spot connected to a design place.
Very informal. Low rates for 15 minute increments. In the range of $4-5 an hour.

Across the street is Mailboxes etc. It has air conditioning, slightly more expensive rates but lots
more computers and based upon my experience in Spring 2004, Mailboxes is also a lot more reliable.

In the Simpson Bay Yacht Club shopping area there is a low cost internet service geared to the
marina. (End of Bruce’s material).

John,
You would really enjoy the Golden Eagle. We did the excursion on CH@OS and had a wonderful time. The cat is very clean, great crew, very nice beach, tons of bubbly flowing at the beach, etc. Since we have already done that excursion, we want to do something different this time. Just know you would REALLY ENJOY the nudies prancing around the beach. Worth a million memories! The sad part being the nudies needed to be covered as they had seen their better days body wise.

Hello All

I just wanted to let you all know that I have made a change of plans as far as the Hotel Stay on October 29. Kelly and I will be staying at the Holiday Inn Select near the airport instead of the Radisson. This is a relatively new hotel (built 2000). I had called them the other night and was quoted a rate of $123.20 (Entertainment/Great Rate). In the morning when I called to book (the hotel directly) they couldn't find this pricing, however, still allowed me to book at this rate. This hotel includes free airport shuttle, free shuttle to and from the pier/Nauticus and free parking. Lowest internet rate I saw was $127.20 off the ichotelsgroup.com website. This locale is about 7 miles from downtown and next door to the Hilton Airport ($179 for their park & cruise package).

There are a few reasons why I decided to switch hotels. I think this alternative will work out fine for us. My intent for the post is not to sway others to follow but to inform of other alternatives.

DW and I went to Sandals in Jamaica for our honeymoon. Next door was Hedonism. You couldn't see it (thankfully) from Sandals. However, when DW tried scuba diving the boat took them by Hedonism. She said that there was a rather 'portly' middle aged man standing there as naked as a jaybird. Not a pretty sight at all. She can't understand why someone with so many flaws would want to expose them all.

Have done the Golden Eagle before and really enjoyed it. The underdressed people arrived as we were leaving. It is true that those uncovered should be !!!!!! The best part was the free mineral mud baths. Some great pics were taken of the "mud people". Hope we can get a crew together.

How funny Surfergirl. I went to Orient Beach one time with Keith and we sat on the clothing optional side. I saw stuff I would have never imagined. Chains and piercings that would make one a bit queezy. Most who were neckkid were nothing to gawk at here. I was fine with it. Keith - he was a bit freaked. Not at the Women but the Men spooked him. After a few drinks he was ok.

Actually Orcrone... if you think about it.. the average swimsuit does not cover a lot of flaws... only one :grin.. or perhaps a pair...

Red,

Probably true. But it does seem to make a big difference. Of course I don't like the average swimsuit. I generally think that they should cover up more for most people, and less for some.:grin Bad Marc, you didn't just say that.

BTW, I was looking at my TA's website yesterday. They lowered the price of an NN guarantee to $710 per person including all taxes and port charges. The NN cabin is tiny, but there's only 3 on the ship and I would guess there's a decent shot at an upgrade. However, three people will wind up there. Anyhow, if you know anyone else who'd be interested that's a great price for a ten day. They may also be able to ge promo 7031. If you want to send them my way I'll give them my TA's name. I'm assuming that I can't and shouldn't post it here.

I generally don't like going for a guarantee, but if we weren't booked I'd definitely consider it.

$710 isn't bad Marc. This late though I'd imagine a guarantee wouldn't be upgradeable. Still not a bad price for a 10day cruise.

LOL Red. You are right on that swimsuit. For me it would take a hooded wetsuit :)

Maureen, my choice of a swimsuit would be one of those nice stretchy things.. made to shave off a few pounds.. and one that went from ankles to wrists ...to neck :lol

Marc.

I agree that there is nothing more beautiful than a young person with a flawless body in a small swimsuit :lol ... unfortunately you are sailing with us :grin
