I must be obsessed here. I am now taking everything out of the suitcase and repacking in another suitcase. I will have the clothes worn out from packing before we even leave the house. The hanging bag was not large enough to hold mine and Paw's hanging things so I needed a bigger case to pack my things. . We may end up at the ship with a trailer truck at this rate . lol Overpack no not me. lol

Maw,

Look at the bright side. If they offer to stay on for a second cruise for a cheap rate (sometimes happens) you'll have enough clothes. :grin

Just checked a website that lists what ships will be at St. Thomas what day, and where they anchor. When we're at St. Thomas there will be 3 other ships there. The otherships will dock at the West Indian Company Dock. We'll be by ourselves at the Crown Bay dock. Does anyone know if this is better or worse?

Its supposed to be the old freight dock. I've been to St Thomas several times and don't recall it. I know the dock we are usually at holds 3 large ships.
Hey, at this time next week I'll be on the road......... YIPPEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!

Got an answer on Crown Bay Dock.

Its about 12-15 minutes (depends on traffic) accross town... heading west... not far from the airport.

I'm gonna miss having that nice mall right at the dock. Seems like it's gonna be a longer taxi ride to the beaches. Guess HAL drew the short straw. I've been to St Thomas 5 or 6 times and have always docked right in Havensight. I've never heard of this place. Anybody else ever docked there? Oh well, we'll just have to deal with it.

Did a little more research. Crown Bay must be west of the regular dock. According to a VI website the cab ride from the regular dock to Coki Beach is 12 minutes, whereas it's 26 minutes from Crown Bay. However, it's only $1.00 more. The dive center has a dive leaving at 11. I thought I might catch that one. But with a half hour cab ride that doesn't seem too likely. They have another at 1:00 PM.

BTW, the nine day forecast was calling for partly cloudly (little icon on screen showed more clouds than it did the day before) with a temp of 74.

John, only my fingers.. sorry.... my LITTLE fingers got tired :lol

Maw, that is the beauty of driving to the port, you can afford to overpack :lol going for the gusto myself here :grin

I seem to remember in my distant past.. docking there. I do not think it made an impression on me.. because I do remember the first time docking at the Havensight dock.. and thinking that this was better ..
but ...(wait for it John.).....................no biggie :grin

Just in case the link doesnt work from Crown Bay Dock to:

Charlotte Amalie 3.50 pp 8 minutes
Magens Bay 7.00 pp 25 minutes
Coki/Coral World 8.00 pp 26 minutes
Mtn. Top 8.00 pp 30 minutes
Red Hook 9.00 pp 31 minutes

Not sure if this is one and the same but.....

http://www.crownbay.com/

I guess that is what we get for being the last ones in. Oh well, as long as the Captain of the ship knows how to get there........

I was at the Crown Bay Dock this past winter. It is not nice. I think people refer to it as the "old submarine dock". There is nothing except freight looking stuff around the ship, so everyone will have to plan on taxi/buses away. I did hear there are plans to add an additional "Havensight" type shopping mall there, but I doubt it could be done in the year since I last saw it.
