Vic,

I hope you're not serious, or that it isn't anything serious. You're past final payment at this point.

Tried on some clothes last night. Should be fine except for one thing. My suit is too big!!!! I got it in February for my stepson's wedding after I put on some weight, but I must have taken it off. I could have it taken in, but then I'm concerned that it might not fit well at the end of the cruise. :( I guess I could get it taken in, but tell them to leave a little room.

So I'm now thinking of renting a tux for the cruise. It's only $85 for the entire cruise. Plus it would save me alteration costs on my suit (at least for now) and I wouldn't have to pack a suit, two or three shirts, several ties and one pair of shoes. I might also return a shirt I just bought, but I'll probably keep it around anyhow. It turns out that the waist is adjustable on the tux, so that a 34 could be adjusted anywhere from a 33 to a 35. Don't think I would need the 33 end of the scale, but I wouldn't mind having the extra inch of room on the plus side. Generally, they leave tux and suit pants a little loose. So when I go for the fitting, if they tell me I'm a 35, then I'll get pants that go from a 35 to a 37, more than enough breathing room. Aside from which, how can DW resist a man in a tux? :grin

Wow Marc.. I wish I could say my clothes are too big. I think Tux rental is a smart idea. Keith will rent one for the Mosaic. It's less packing and to be honest.. he looks pretty darn fine in one :)

Wow.. I missed all the excitement yesterday. Maw - your laughing picture is so cute. I will send you a picture of Kelly this evening Red. The Collage looks fabulous.

I have a question. What time will it be in St. Maarten's?????? ok.. We change time over the weekend (fall behind). Will the Carribean be on EST or one hour ahead? I want to reserve a car but don't want to give the wrong time if ship time is EST.

Suer - I love the ghost. The gymshoes highlight the outfit. Vic - so sorry you aren't joining us :(

I have to get back to work. I just stopped in to say howdy. I've already set up a card table in my bedroom to stack my stuff to pack with checklists taped to the wall. I'm gearing up for this trip!

Maureen,

I believe that the times listed on the itinerary (St. Maarteen 7 AM to 7 PM) are all local time to the island visited. So you should be safe telling them those times. At least that's how it was last year with Carnival.

As far as the suit being too big, it's not that big a deal. It was actually a little large when I purchased it, but I didn't want to have it taken in because of my penchant for gaining weight. But I probably have taken off 8 - 10 pounds since then. Doesn't make a big difference in my appearance since I'm tall, but since the suit was already loose it means the difference between looking decent and being too loose. Aside from which, it's a light colored suit and I'm sure would be just fine, but it seems to me that a dark suit or tux is more appropriate.

MAW - It's a two edged sword. For men the dress code is much more specific than it is for women for all nights. Informal specifies coat suggested, tie optional. Not much ambiguity there. For you ladies you have more of a selection to choose from, but that means more decisions to make. I guess the lack of interpretation of the dress code for us dumb guys helps us out. Hate making those decisions.

All my ambguity abt clothes is worked out, I had a great shopping day found just what I had pictured in my mind. Poor Paw was waiting in the car while I went in one shop he thought I had run in to pick some unmentionalbles. Poor guy he decided I was trying the whole store on. He really went into shock when I had carryout from a dress shop. I think I made their day. I now have the perfect black and white pin striped pants suit. Black dress blouse, white dress blouse and that all essential little black dress. Purging the closet tomorrow of all that 10-5 year old fall and winter clothes.

The only thing about renting vs. buying.. is that for not too much more than it costs to rent a tux.. you can buy one.
The only way that renting is cost effective is if you know that you will never wear one again :)

now packing is another matter :grin although it honestly does not take up much room at all.

Maw, those clothes sound very smart, I can hardly wait to see them... and how many days is it???
not long now.

I may have to pay more attention to packing after reading of all the "fashion" plates that are going........

Red - I have one suit in my closet that fit me well when I weighed 200 pounds, two others that fit well when I weighed 225 and one that fit well when I weighed 255. Now I'm 190 and can get by with the first one, although it will be loose the first half of the cruise. I guess my point is that with how often I'll wear a tux and how much my weight can fluctuate, I'm better off renting them. I appreciate the suggestion, but you've never seen me in front of a buffet. I've run over little old ladies with walkers, (heck my other cruises only lasted 7 days).

John - Please pay attention to how you are packing. We'd hate to be embarrassed by you. :grin

Orcrone, the discussion of weight loss is prohibited on this board ....:grin (Congrats BTW)You're going overboard my friend !!!!!!

I am assuming that Halloween will be a formal night for us. Does anyone know for sure ? Any thoughts on wearing some sort of costume other than our 24/7 masks ?

Orcrone... you run over people in the buffet line? ... did you read this post on the HAL board
"Holland America typical passenger"
I think my comment at the bottom says it all :grin

Suer, about those costumes.... you really need to read the community board on this subject.. I think this is frowned upon :lol

I will Marc. I realize the reputation of this board and its members depend on the way we present ourselves during this cruise. I still hope to have room to pack the whoopie cushion....................

Suer - Sorry about discussing weight loss. Once on the ship I can guarantee that won't happen. :grin I'm also guessing that Halloween will be a formal night. If I put on a tux or suit, that will definitely be a costume for me.

Red - I hadn't seen your comment until you pointed it out. Great minds think alike. You see you may be able to get to the buffet ahead of the slower peope, but if some are ahead of you, then comes the hipcheck.

John - Whoopie cushion first. Then the formalwear if there's enough room.
