Great Holiday.

A toast a day means there will be some of us getting together and raising a glass and making a toast. Sounds like fun to me !!!!!!!!!!

Is there room for a couple more to join your party??

My daughter Kelly and I booked this cruise today. Originally we were looking at a Bermuda cruise out of Norfolk for September but decided to take a look at what else sailed from there. We decided this ship and itenerary seemed like a pretty good one too so we chose this one. It just happens to be the "Weenie" cruise!

We booked the Radisson for the night before. Can't beat the rate considering 10 days of parking is $100 anyhow..

Orcrone - you can let your wife know she won't be among lots of people double her age.. Kelly is 20 and I'm in my early 40's too.

I've never sailed HAL so if any of you have some info. and can share experiences that would be great. (JohnNJ - thanks for posting your thoughts on the HAL board).

iluvcruzin,

welcome to the party. My wife will appreciate someone her age (I just won't tell her that your daughter is half her age).

We went through the same thing selecting the crruise. We thought about going to Bermuda with Celebrity, but decided on the HAL cruise instead. We were a bit concerned about going across the Atlantic closer to the peak hurricane season. Aside from which we probably prefer the Caribbean. Perhaps we'll give it a try another time. The nice part of that cruise is it spends a couple of days in each of the two ports.

BTW, mention promo 7031 to your TA. Don't know if it's still applicable, but it got us a $100 shipboard credit.

Thanks for the tip Orcrone.. I will have Jenn check tomorrow (Lori is on a xpedition cruise)..

Same story for me on the Horizon Bermuda one. I don't mind the crossing.. but thought Kelly might find it a bit rough. Besides, this one wasn't much more in price and there's 3 extra days on board.. Sounds good to me.. I've been to all the ports except the Moon Cay but I'm sure it's like most private islands. The one I haven't been in the longest is Antigua. I will have to look back and see what we actually did there. It might be a whole new experience :)

Maureen, the more the merrier. This will be our first HAL sailing as well. You and Orcrone both have me drooling for Bermuda. Bermuda is a "must" at least once if not more. I would go back in a heartbeat. Hmmmm maybe for 2005 oh jeepers, so many ships, so many places which one to sail :lol ah, I'll book them all, throw a dart and cancel the rest :lol

Maureen, sailing with this group will be an experience in itself. They are a great group of people.

Maureen,

The fact that 10 days on Holland was about the same price as 7 days on Celebrity didn't hurt the decision. It could have just been the reviews I read, but I also read some unflattering things about the Horizon when we were making our decision. My two previous cruises have been western Caribbean, so I haven't been to any of these ports. Although with being in San Juan from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM I may not do much there, if we get off the ship at all.

We live about 20 minutes from the Norfolk pier, so I'm hoping the cruiselines expand here. Can't get much more convenient than that.

Suer,

DW enjoys cruising, but she wants to do other vacations too (go figure). But if I can convince her, perhaps we'll give Bermuda a try next year.

Orcrone, I had the same situation after our cruise 2 years ago. But, DH lost his addiction to cruising. The threat of divorce did not work. I booked a cruise solo at a time of year DH is able to cruise, in hopes to convince him to join me. I failed :(. Some C@'ers booked the same itinerary, I canceled to join them as DH still had no desire to cruise again. :(

Well, in the mean time, some touchable friends just got back from doing a Voyager class ship. Of course they shared the fabulous time they had. Got the wheels turning for DH for him to try cruising again. I booked the EOS in hopes DH would sail(divorce papers in hand this time). He finally agreed. I canceled the canal sailing with my friends to do the EOS with DH.

Well, we had the best cruise ever. Everything was great all around, from the ship, to the customer service. This cruise saved my marriage :lol as well as my cruising career with DH. This cruise reassured DH that cruising is the only option for a vacation.

So now, I book a few cruises and let dh decide which one to do as I can always cancel. Oh, cabin location is important to us. Ship happens, and if I have to cancel it is no big deal to me as long as I am sailing on a ship. So don't give up hope. :lol

Suer,

I had been on one cruise prior to meeting my wife, and that was back in 1990. I convinced her to go last year in spite of her concerns (seasickness, feeling confined in a small space, will there be enough to do, etc.). She can't sit still at home, but on the cruise she loved being able to sit on deck out in the sun and read a book. Plus the seas were as calm as could be and she had a great time. And that was with Carnival during spring break with tons of kids. HAL has roomier ships in general, and in mid-fall should not have many kids. So it should hopefully be even more relaxing.

DW works at a retail furniture store and can buy furniture at cost. So I finally got beat down and she's pretty much refurnishing every room in the house that we have not already done. So when I told her that I wanted to go on another cruise she wasn't going to say no. But I can't really start talking about the next cruise before this one arrives. My hope is that she'll love this one as much. Also cruising, especially out of your home port can be very inexpensive, so it makes it an easy vacation to take. So I'm hoping that when the talk of the next vacation occurs we look at our options and she says, "another cruise may not be a bad idea". We watched one of the travel channel cruise shows and she seemed very interested in doing one of the Voyager class ships.

However, for our 10 year anniversary (still 4 years away) we've decided to go back to Sandals, Negril, where we had our honeymoon.

BTW, divorce is not an option. She's already told me that if we get divorced I get the kids and the dogs. So I'm in this for the long haul.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm looking forward to this cruise. I'm in that "try a different cruiseline" mode. The things I've read about this ship have been mainly positive.

Ocrone, if your wife enjoyed the Spring break on the Inspiration, she will truely enjoy this sailing. I offically took my last Spring break cruise in April. My daughter Amy (Kelly's twin) wanted to go between semesters. Although the Granduer only had 600 kids onboard (others have more), it made me realize how much I enjoy it more when the adult ratio is higher. I've sailed Carnival too before at Spring break and I could have sworn the kids out numbered the adults 3 to 1.

You mentioned a voyager cruise.. Have you checked out the Mariner cruise for next fall? The prices are pretty good. Also it's going to be a huge group as the signup list continues to grow (just ask Red Stripe and Einstien). Since the deposit is so low.. maybe reserve a room and if it doesn't pan out.. you can always cancel.

So... where's everyone staying on this sailing? I decided to keep it low-budget this time since I'm triple-stacked. I chose a inside cabin on the Navagation deck. Maybe the people in the Penthouse suite would like some company to share their balcony with :)

Iluvcruzin,

We may consider the Mariner cruise next fall, but I'll probably wait until after this next one to bring it up. A friend at work is on the Mariner as we speak. Anyhow, we're also in an inside room, but on the Main deck. Last year we were on the Riviera (lowest) deck on the Inspiration. DW made me take the stairs to somewhat control the weight gain. At least this time I'm one deck up from the bottom.

How's everyone doing?

So what have you found on tours Maw? I've just started browsing. I'd like to find something interesting for St. Thomas. Last time I went with Keith and we didn't do the tour thing. We ended up getting captured by the timeshare gremlins. They took us on a mini-tour of the island, then up to the visit their timeshare, we were given a couple bottles of rum and some cash and a ride back. We figured.. what the heck? We saw some beautiful sites and had nothing planned anyhow. Since Kelly is going with me this time, I think something else would be better.

Anyone thought of maybe doing group tours on this sailing?

Always room in my "office" for mature or younger office workers John.
Maureen St. Thomas is the one Island that Paw and I have just taken the bus down town and picked up one of the taxi there . We went in one of the crew cab pu the driver let us ride in air conditioned cab and he gave us a good tour of the Island and described the various things . It cost us aBT $13 EACH. We had time to shop around the various shops too. Maybe later E will come up with one of his E tours for the group.

Other than visiting MAW's office, the only tour we really want to do is the 4x4/beach tour through the ship in Antigua.
