I've just glanced at the shore excursions. I'm hoping to go scuba diving on St. Thomas and St. Johns. HMC I plan on just relaxing on the beach. Not sure if it's worth getting off the ship with the short time in port at San Juan. That only leaves St. Maarten. Actually we have so much time at some ports (especially St. John's) that I could probably go diving and do an excursion with DW.

134 days to go? Is it too soon to discuss when and where sail away is going to be?

Actually I guess it will be between Oct. 30 and Nov. 9, and it will be on the ship. But I was hoping for something more specific.

134?? wow.. I've attended sailaways at different times and days. Most are either the first night out or the next morning if it's a sea day. The latest EVER was 11:00pm on the first night out. Not everyone attended but we did have a good time *hic*.. :)

John... I think I will be very thirsty Friday night.. Who's bringing the blender???

Hey Maasdam cruisers please look out for Maw. I had the most horrible dream last night that I got off ship and got lost and could not remember the name of the ship and that Italian Captain I stopped could not understand me. Not sure what I ate that started this wild dream but I sure don't want to be on the shore watching the ship sail away again.

Maw,

Not to worry. Just spend a week or so at the port, then get back on the ship and continue the cruise.

Hallo-weenies. You may want to check the Norfolk, VA Maasdam parking thread on the HAL board. It's somehow transfigured into a Friday night get together discussion.

Regarding a question about seafood restaurants in Norfolk.

I'd recommend Freemason Abbey. It's an old church that's been converted to a restaurant. The web address is http://www.freemasonabbey.com. (Sorry about not knowing how to paste the link). It's in downtown and has it's own parking lot. It has a very rustic setting. It has more than seafood, but includes a number of seafood selections.

There's also Kincaid's located in the MacArthur Mall. It's supposed to be very good. I believe it's a bit more pricey and I've never been there. Tried going once, but their seafood is a lot of salmon. We're more into shellfish (shrimp, scallops, etc) and there wasn't much of selection so we went to plan B.

One other possibility. You're not far from Ghent which is a trendy section of Norfolk with a lot of good, privately owned restaurants. Someone at the hotel may also have some suggestions.

I'm checking with people at work for other suggestions also.

I'd probably go with Freemason Abbey. Only been there once, for our anniversary last year, and we enjoyed it. BTW, yesterday was our sixth anniversary. Keep me updated. Might consider going out to dinner depending upon when my mom arrives to from Florida.

Happy 6th Anniversary! How wonderful!

Thanks for the recommendations on the restaurants. We can use them as a reference on this board (would get lost on the other end).

I just realized I didn't add my name to the tracker list. It's out there now.

Don't worry Maw.. I could make you a wrist band like they give you when you go in the hospital if you wish.. Don't those dreams drive you crazy?? I've had ones where I missed the ship. So far.. so good.. I've made it back.. (sometimes I wish I did miss the ship though so I could live in a tropical paradise...)

I have to make a decision on travel insurance by tomorrow (my deadline). The cheapest one on the insuremytrip website is for travelsafe. I see they are the same company as CSA and a few others. I don't need airfare or really medical (mine covers it), my parents are gone now so I don't have a older parent,.. so why do I need to buy it? Because odds are if I don't something will bound to happen (right maw?). I wish I could get some feedback on this product.

As far as a sailaway party.. I'm game. How many of us are there?

Maureen,

I'm not sure, but does your medical cover you in foreign countries? If they have to med-evac you, will that be covered. If you're not sure then it's best to get it.

I assume by tomorrow, that's to cover preexisting conditions. I didn't purchase it yet, so preexisting may be a problem. But we plan on purchasing before final payment.

Geez as if I did NOT have enough boards to check. :grin OK so I shall check in her more from now on. :thumb I guess a sailaway party is in order and we have a few choices although our small window most likely is NOT the BEST. :lol I myself has ALWAYS been fond of the deck sailaways with EVERYONE in the festive mood. Of course that can also be dictated by the weather which at the end of Oct. might be a bit more iffy than if we were sailing from Fla.

I wouldn't miss being on deck even if it were snowing !!!!!! Hopefully we will be boarded early enough and be semi-unpacked by sailaway time.

Marc - most medical insurance covers overseas but you pay it and the company reimburses after a deductable. It's always a good idea to double check. It's Medicare that isn't covered overseas.

If there's inclement weather.. the Lido deck looks like a nice spot to meet and toast to a smooth sailing.

Outside would be nice for sailaway, but no telling what we'll get the end of October. I've seen cold and rainy, and I've seen 80 degrees that time of year. For the heck of it I checked on weather.com. The average high is 66 degrees for October 30. I can handle that. Perhaps we could plan on both indoors and outdoors and look at the weather forecast on Wednesday or Thursday and make the call then.

Maybe meet by the pool with the retractable roof. If it's cool we could stay there. If nice out we can meet there and then move up a deck.

I haven't gotten any additional suggestions for seafood restaurants, but I'll keep asking. I know of a number of good seafood restaurants in Virginia Beach, but they'd be 20 - 30 minutes from downtown.

Let's keep this thread going.

When HAL went to the four seatings I called my TA to make sure I got the one I wanted. My agent was on vacation, so another one took my request. I decided to check back yesterday to verify. Happy to report that I got my request. I'm at the 6:15 seating at a table for 8. Or was it the 8:00 seating at a table for 615?:jester

DW didn't want to eat too late. Aside from which we get into most ports pretty early, so I don't think 6:15 will cut our excursions short.

What dining time did the rest of this bunch request?

. How can I check to see what seating we have. I miss eating with the group but due to my diabetes and over 60 years habit we usually request early seating. I see my confirmation from Lori says TBA for our seating.
