Hsve eaten at several Joe's Crab shacks across US and have always enjoyed our meals there. Love the wild decor. Kinda like our group. Anyplace that has Sea food is a good choice though.

Any of the suggestions are fine. Freemason Abbey seems to have a good variety and the location sounds interesting - an old church. O'Sullivan's looks like a local seafood place which is always good to try. Joe's crabshack looks good too. I'll vote if there is a tie.

Dinner time.. Since we have many miles of driving that day, is it possible to make reservations 6:30pm or later?

Hi Mary. I'm glad you could join us! My daughter Kelly and I will be driving to Norfolk from Cincinnati Ohio. This is our first sailing with HAL. I would love to hear about your experience with this cruiseline. Have you sailed on the Maasdam before?

Mary and Joe, you came to the right place. This is a great group of people on this sailing.

This thread's been pretty quiet for a couple of days. So, any suggestions for where and/or when for the get together on board?

I'm thinking of early, right after the lifeboat drill if possible. After that we run into dinner time, which can go from 5:45 until 10:00, depending on your seating. If we can't arrange it for that day because of time constraints (for instance not enough time between lifeboat drill and first dinner seating) then maybe the next morning.

What's everyone else think?

Back safe and sound from our Virginia land cruise. Our choice would be O'Sullivans for dinner with Joe's second. I've done get togethers that were before and or after lifeboat drill. Some were just planned as meet in a ceratin area after you board and have your lunch. There usually is enough time between eating, unpacking and lifeboat drill to meet some of the new friends.

Ok 2 votes for O'Sullivans and 2 votes for a tie breaker.

Orcrone are you interested in joining us for dinner?

What time should we do dinner?

I too like the idea of right after life boat drill. It seems most of us are at 6:15 or 8:00 for dinner.

How about setting up 2 separate meeting times. Hopefully the beginning of many many more.

How about 3:30 at the Dolphin bar AND right after muster drill. The cruises I have sailed that left at 5:00 the muster drill was at 4:30 since that is the time you had to be on the ship by.

We can meet on the side of the ship that is facing the port? I don;t recall which way the ship was docked. oops. By looking at the brochure, it appears to be table and chairs in that area.

If Mother Nature thinks she is going to rain on our parade we can go to the Crows nest or the location that the festivities might be at.

Thoughts anyone???????

Suer,

Probably won't make the dinner the night ahead of time. Current plan is that my mom (who's watching the kids) will fly out on Friday. If that's the case I figure I'll spend some time with her. Plus, i'll probably be working a full day that day. If she comes out somewhat earlier then perhaps we'll be there. So don't count my vote, but Freemason Abbey is my first choice.

Maureen posted a question on CC about the time for muster drill out of Norfolk. Let's see what answer we get to that before deciding on time. If the drill is at 4:30 that should be plenty of time. I don't think people will have to do much to get ready for dinner on the first night.

I'm pretty sure that the ship will be sitting with the port side to the dock, at least that's what it did this spring.

What time does everyone plan on heading to the ship? I guess for many of you, you're at the mercy of the shuttle service from the Radisson.

Suer glad you changed the bar to meet in I could not find that Dragon Bar on my deck plan even with the magnifying glass. Dolphin sounds good to me and a 3:00 meet sounds good. Not sure two times is good idea as we could miss one and miss meeting someone. Hopefully what ever meeting place we find there are some chairs this old bottom just does not fit a bar stool.

O Sullivans sounds like the best choice for dinner Friday night. Think we need reservations. In my reading the Abby seems a little more formal and we need a relaxed atmosphere I think. 6:30 sounds like a good time to meet. We are just not late eaters and will be tired after a long drive.

Really am looking forward to meeting all those we haven't met before as well as seeing old acquaintances again.

I didn't recieve a response yet on the Muster time but I'm with you Suer - I bet it's 4:30pm.

3:30pm & after the Muster at the Dolphin Bar sounds good. 6:30pm reservations at O'Sullivan's sound good too. I hear ya maw on the long drive. It will be 10 1/2 hrs for us straight through. We figure if we can arrive early afternoon we can catch some zzz's before heading to dinner.

Where's E & Red? They need to check in and vote.

As far as sailaway goes, we'll be on the ship early, so anytime, anyplace is good for us.

Maureen - DW has relatives that live outside of Detroit so we've driven out in your direction. We used to go around DC, but you never know about the traffic. We now take 95 to Fredericksburg and head off towards I-66 to avoid DC. Works out pretty good. If you want the details let me know.

I used to go that way - up through Penn. and around DC years ago. It was like a horse shoe route. (north east south). I live in the corner of the state where Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky intersects. Now that I-64 is all complete we are just going to drive along the Ohio River to Charleston WV and pick it up there. We could also drive to Lexington KY and pick it up there as an alternative. It should be a pretty drive in the fall. Although it will be partially in the dark since we are going to head out way before the rooster crows..

We have some new official faces to the "weenie" gallery.

So far, 6:30 at O'Sullivans looks like the place to be on Friday October 29. I will make a reservation for 15 just in case Orcrone you decide to come. I will ask for a high chair for Jacque? :lol Hopefully Red/E and Surfergirl will chime in.

I like the 3:30 as well as the 5:00 port side Dolphin Bar not Dragon for sailaway.

Not sure what time we will head to the ship but do plan on being on board early as possible.

I was looking at the deck plans and could not find the Dolphin bar. I know I'm a bit dense, so could someone point me in the right direction?

Never mind. Found the Dolphin lounge, just where I left it

Appreciate including me in the plans for Friday. We'll know for sure a bit before it gets here (which isn't soon enough).

well I guess it is no use sending out a spreadsheet to all of you :lol as you seem to be making your plans well enough.

So this is our tentative plans ..

we will go out to eat at the Abby, prob around 7ish.. but will have to check with surfergirl and the WHG on time..
And as for the sailaway.. we usually have it straight after the drill... and if not having it on a balcony.. then I would opt for The Crows Nest, as the view is wonderful..

John NJ and Suer.. have your eating arrangements changed at all?

Glad that there will be a chance to meet some new people..
cheers,
red stripe

Now who would bring a Blender along on a cruise??? :grin I do likle the late nite sailaways scheduled for 3 of the Islands which gives us MORE beach time at Trunk Bay and possibly Antigua as well as a chance to sample some of that delicious Wadadli Beer on the downtown streets. :cheers Most of Our plans will be of the VERY relaxed nature since we will need a vacation after the absentee ballots. :lol
