The weather did clear up and the Pops concert and fireworks went off as scheduled. There were still some low clouds so the fireworks display wasn't quite as spectacular as in past years (or we have watched so many over the years that we haveth become a bit too critical.
Bloomberg broadcast the proceedings so I guess that unless you were in the broadcast area for Boston's Channel 7, you needed to subscribe to Bloomberg's channel to watch it.

The US Army band and chorus' performance, along with En Vogue, and Mandy Gonzalez (from "In the Heights" and "Hamilton" and some Country group that I never heard of were the primary performers along with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops orchestra. A great crowd as usual who, this year, had to deal with heavy rain earlier in the day but stuck it out and were rewarded with some great music.
My hearing aid stopped working over the weekend, so I have an appointmeant to have it checked out tomorrow morning. That and a PT session are all that are currently on my calendar.
Yesterday was not only a rainy one with scattered thunderstorms but also so very gloomy that we had to turn the lights on by early afternoon. Today, in contrast, is bright and sunny with a few puffy white clouds in the sky.

"That's Karen. Good. She is well and has reported in". Yes, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police come through again.
By gosh it's just the other side of hot here. I was lucky to get a jump on cutting the grass first thing in the morning both yesterday and today. Still, like MI, it was 70+ at 8:00 a.m. And not even a breath of fresh air along the river.
I'm glad nobody is reporting in with fewer fingers, thumbs or toes than they started yesterday with. Well done gang!
Hawaii. A favourite destination for Lu-Ann and I Nancy. That is where a number of us, some who have drifted away and some who are no longer with us, met. We were on board Serenade of The Seas sailing from Ensenada across The Pacific to The Islands of Aloha. We have also done land vacations "Island Hopping" back in the day when Hawaiian Airlines offered one day return flights and a
rental car from HNL to various airports around The Islands.
Geez Dave, do you think that our horse, "Retail Therapy", has finished that course yet?
Pat, to answer your question , Lisa moves down a week from today. Even though it is under 5 years old she is having her whole new home painted with her colours. She really is making it her own. She and Shiraz stayed with us from Friday afternoon through Monday morning. Yes, I got all 38 door pulls changed in no time at all. You saw crab in the picture. I saw a glass of wine.
and some Country group that I never heard of
Bill, that line cracked me up. Why? Because I find myself saying that about most of the musical acts these days.
Wow
Kathie! I don't recall you and Art getting THAT much water by your house in the past! Hopefully there has been no lasting damage done! Our Open Air Festival was cancelled Sunday because the weather guessers called for heavy rain and thunder all day long. We got one deluge around 2:00.
Our new neighbours are moving in across the street today. They seem very nice. They have parked their cars, at my invitation, in our driveway to make way for the moving van.
I best get my butt down to the bike. Or treadmill. Or both. Lu-Ann is having lunch with a couple of the Grey Ladies.
Have a wonderful afternoon everyone.

Good evening. Well I upgraded our seats on all our flights, to give us more leg room, I was able to move us to window seats so we can look out the windows. I also got an email to bid on an upgrade of our cabin but decided not to try for it..

Tomorrow we go to Benihana's for Bruce's birthday dinner.

All have a good night.

Good evening, sounds like everyone survived the 4th of July holiday in one piece!

Kathie, you never said did you go in the lake yesterday? Bless Art for doing that drain work in the heat! I'm sure you kept him well hydrated while he was working!

Lee, that was quite a kitchen hardware project you had! I thought replacing 5 drawer pulls & 15 cabinet knobs was a lot! Always good to get all the painting & other projects out of the way before moving in!

Pat, nice that you will have lot's of company on your next cruise, would be even nicer if they all just chipped in & helped pay for your cruise, after all the help you given them over the years it would be a nice way to say Thanks Mom & Dad. :emoticon 0100 smile:

Dave, the calendar may SAY it's Wednesday but my mind & body is convinced it's Monday.

Had my sister's over yesterday for a cookout & pool time. Pool is up to 88 degrees now & in the full sun it's not refreshing at all!
Quite a few big fireworks in the neighborhoods outside ours, we sat in Barb's van with the A/C running for about 45 minutes watching them all.
Jane & Hansel spent the night cause Jane doesn't like driving after dark. After Jane left this morning I went to church, then down to BJ's to get my new membership card & fill up with gas.
Scooter had a vet appt. this afternoon for her eyes, she keeps having a discharge from them, more from the right than the left. Turns out her right eye is not producing enough tears, so now my cat not only has high blood pressure, she has dry eyes! Vet gave me steroid drops for her eye to help reduce the inflammation & then she has another drop she has to take to stimulate the tear production. Another $170 hit to my credit card, but hopefully this will help her feel better. She did gain a little bit of weight so that was good to see
Lot's of goings on lately with the Hoa board & homeowners not following the rules, I'm so glad I only have 5 more months on the board! Right now we have attorneys involved in one situation & another homeowner who was cited before for non-compliance is being sited again, always something!
And that is a few of the entertaining ways I've been spending my time! Tomorrow I'm going to mow Jane's front yard and hoping to get my house cleaned sometime in the next few days.

K2-Mich

Wacky Wabbit
Good to read that Scooter is gaining weight. Bummer on the ‘dry eyes’.
YES we went to the lake and I floated around in the water that was nice and warm. It was great. Food was good too!
Art was well hydrated all during his project. He had to work around 2 Comcast cables and 2 sprinkler lines. He got around and under them. :clap002:
It might rain tomorrow afternoon and we’ll see if the project worked.

I called my niece and found out she and her hubby are FINE! I told her she needs to do a better job of expressing herself when trying to tell us she had something to tell the family.

My brother & SIL and Art and I are driving to Chicago on Sunday to visit my brother George and our SIL Joan who had to sell their house after her accident. I feel so bad for her. She will be living with her daughter while she still recovers from all the surgeries she’s been through. She’ll be moving my brother to a location closer to her daughters house soon.
Be grateful for your health folks. What they are going through is just horrible.

Okay, I need to get to bed.
You all have a good day on Thursday.
Hope the temps drop a tad for all of us.

Like Lee and K2, there was never a doubt yesterday morning that our air conditioner was going to kick on. Sunny, horrendous humidity and a temperature hovering around 90 most of the day. I had gone out around 9:30 in the morning to weed, but only lasted about 45 minutes.

BB; The only reason I can think of for the less than normal fireworks in your community is the average age in the place is going up. Our jump in fireworks use in the past few years is because younger families are moving in. You've even got a meat slicer? You sure have all the cooking toys.

Speaking of cooking; Kathi wants some whole wheat hot dog buns, but can't find any. Whole wheat hamburger buns YES, but not for hot dogs. So last week she ordered a baking pan for 6 hot dogs, and plans to make her own. Surprise, surprise, when it showed up it wasn't metal. Not even plastic. But a soft rubber-like material. It sure looked like it would melt in the stove, but NO it didn't, nor did it have any strange odor from the heat. Not a single mark on the bottom from the hot racks. (Made in Germany.)

Add me to the group Bill who don't recognize half the musical groups these days.

Lee; I'd bet that our horse "Retail Therapy" is still running on the pool deck, BUT getting closer to the finish line. I still think it's funny that we covered her with sales receipts from onboard purchases.

Thanks for the pictures, K2. How come we see lots of pictures of Art working, but so few of you? Those knee-pads you got look cool. In that cartoon, the dog looks and thinks like Jack.

Now THAT is the way to watch fireworks, KC. In an air conditioned car. Give Scooter a hug from me.

Yippey, grocery shopping day. Off to the big store, so I can stock up on some more Blue Bunny chocolate mini cones.

Good Morning Coffee GIF by Design Museum Gent
It sprinkled a tad here earlier. Enough to get the deck wet and make it STEAMY HUMID! Temp is still lower than yesterday right now. 77F but climbing.

DAVE: You don't see me in the pictures, because I'm the one taking them. Or I'm running around getting Art something he needs. And I HATE BEING IN PICTURES! :emoticon 0102 bigsmile:

Have fun at the grocery store. Hope you find something new and interesting to buy.
I've seen those Gel-Type baking gizmos. Are you suppose to put them on a cookie sheet or can you just put directly on the oven racks? So how did the WHEAT BUNS turn out?? Have Kathi post a picture if they're not all gone by now. :emoticon 0102 bigsmile:

PAT: How are things going over your way with Bert? Has he tried driving around the "complex" yet? And how are you holding up with your breathing. If you're planning a cruise you best get up and move around and get your strength super good for moving around in the cabin. When you guys cruise do you bring your own motor scooter on board?

Negc: Nice you and Rita got to listen to the POPS Concert. Those are usually really very entertaining. Our Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI has a fantastic show every year.
The problem is it's a long drive to get there and you have to get there early for a good seat. Bring your own chair or blanket too. Most families make a long evening of it by bringing a basket dinner and eat before the show. We went one year. Just too far and getting out of the parking lot when it was over and onto the freeway was a pain.

Good luck with the hearing aids. Art had to go back to have the nice Tech Lady put his in some type of machine that takes out the humidity. When done she said that really wasn't the issue. She said if the left unit stops working one more time they'll order a new set from the manufacturer. They noted everything on his chart. He likes these new ones a lot and loves that he doesn't have to use 'batteries' with them. Just sticks them in the charging unit.
Hope your issue is a quick fix.

Art is biking. He's missed a few days because of the HEAT and HOLIDAY. He went to bed super early last night after working on that pipe project. Hopefully, it won't rain on the guys.

I need to think about baking some Serbian Cookies to take to my Brother & SIL in Chicago. She doesn't bake and he likes when I either mail him some cookies or bring them. I dread seeing how he has declined since our last visit. His voice tells me a lot about what to expect. It's not going to be a fun visit. :(

Lee: Have you and your group been in that HUGE POOL that you built the deck and railing on yet this season? Time to INVITE YOURSELVES OVER! Ha Ha. Do the folks living there use the pool enough?

Karen: Is the person giving the HOA group a hard time the same guy that wanted to EXTEND his property? Hope all the ugly issues get resolved. And hope the folks that are giving the HOA group a hard time don't decide to run for office. It's a shame when some folks think that they can break the rules and screw up what seems like a really nice neighborhood.
Hope the grass cutting gets done early before the HEAT of the DAY moves in.

I'm off to make a fresh cup of coffee and then take back a T-Shirt I bought that was just too high up on my neck. I felt like I had a turtle neck on when I finally put it on at home. Just not a good time of the year for something so high up. Haven't bought myself any clothes in so long I forgot how things fit by just looking at them. HATE CLOTHES SHOPPING lately and these days there are FEWER and FEWER stores to shop at. Everything is closing up and going online. When I was in my late 20's and and 30's I loved shopping. Being YOUNG must have had something to do with that. :emoticon 0102 bigsmile:

You all have a nice day. Stay HYDRATED if you're outside. Come back and tell us about your day.

BREAKING NEWS!!!! Pat is no longer wearing the Life Vest!!!!!
Got a call from the cardiologist office yesterday. Cardiologist had looked at the results of the ECHO cardiogram and was very pleased with the results, so much so that he had one of the guys in the office call me right away that I could take the vest off NOW. I thought that was sweet that he didn't make me wait until I see him next Monday.
Of course, Mr. Speedy (aka Bert) got the vest park disconnected and washed and dried before we got to dinnertime. Today he'll pack it all up in the box it came in and we'll send it off to them for someone else to use.
Dave - I think the reason there was less fireworks is because a lot of these new residents are afraid to break any rules in the community after receiving a number of emails to remind everyone that fireworks are not allowed in our community. Many of the residents who were here before just didn't care for one of the 2 nights of the year when peeople shoot off fireworks in Florida. You also get these people who have to remind everyone about PTSD and the fear of animals. I personally suggested we have a community event with fireworks for the 4th instead of for Halloween, which I think is so stupid.
That meat cutter I have is a small compact thing, but after using it yesterday, it's time to send it on its way to the garbage dump. I've only had it for 39 years, but I think the motor is getting worn out. Just wasn't running as fast as it used to. So starting today, I will be on a search for a new one.
Karen - I hope your HOA problems are resolved soon. There are advantages to having an HOA as well as many disadvantages. I don't think I'd want to be in a community again with an HOA. Just too much BS! You sure have been keeping yourself busy these days. I like your idea of how to watch fireworks. Better than roasting outside like we've been doing recently.
Kathie - Yes, Bert has started driving again. Up until now, he's managed to stay in the community or just go to Publix. Today he'll drive to the post office which is a few miles away to send off this life vest. I've been doing pretty good too. I have a battery operated scooter that I take on a cruise or if we go to Sea World or the like. One of the best things we ever bought.
Nice that you're making a batch of cookies to bring to your brother.
That was one wicked job Art had to do in all this heat. Looks like a French drain. Bert dug 4 of them around our house here due to standing water after a rain or ater the sprinklers shut off. He got really good at it too!!
Lee - Thanks for answering my question about Lisa. Smart of her to have everything painted the way she wants before moving in. Lots less of a pain in the butt. There was a glass of wine in the picture with the crabs just go give an idea of how much was in the huge bowl. The last of the crabs got finished off last night along with the rest of the mussels.
Bill - We haven't a clue who most of the new recording artists are. That's why we don't even bother watching things like the Grammy Awards. Why bother? We got to talking the other night about the garbage they are calling music these days when you haven't a clue what they are supposed to be singing about. Bert came up with a good question - Do they make any "fun" songs like they did during our younger days? We started recalling some of those fun song titles and groups that did them. One of my favorites was the Coasters. They did great fun songs back in the day.
Time to read the news paper, so I will leave you with this -

Good evening, checking in after a LONG day!

Pat, that is awesome news that you've been able to ditch the jacket! Can a trip to Publix or Sam's Club be far behind? Let the celebration begin!

Dave, hope the shopping trip is a success & are able to load up on all your favorite treats. How many cartons of the Lemon Ice cream do you have left?

Kathie, I know your brother will be thrilled to see you again it's really nice of you to make him cookies too! I hope his wife is able to get him moved closer to them soon, that is really hard on people not to see their loved ones. And yes, the person who got a lawyer involved was the one who wanted to move his fence.

Lee, nice of you to offer your driveway to the new neighbors, hope they realize what a great neighborhood they've moved into!

Busy day today, got to Jane's early & mowed her front yard, it wasn't really high but I've got a lot going on next week so wanted to get it cut before it did. Finished up around 10:30 and then headed to Walmart for groceries. While I was there I noticed they had set up most of the school supplies, so I picked up a bunch of glue sticks, pencils, crayons, markers & colored pencils. The church is doing a school supply drive this month so I wanted to get started. I didn't have the list with me so I still need to pick up some paper, notebooks & binders. I got a bunch of stuff for .25-.50 just by buying "off" brands. After that I went to the pool for about an hour with Barb, it was slightly over cast so it made it much more enjoyable!
Came home & cleaned house all except my bedroom, I'll do that tomorrow & change the sheets. Now I'm ready to take my shower & relax! Have a good one all!

CAN YOU SAY AMEN! So happy for you BB now that the "Life Vest" is history. It's going to feel a whole lot different, for a while, to just move around without that extra weight and movement restrictions. Thank you Jesus! I too enjoyed your music pick of the Coasters singing "Poison Ivy".

You know what KC? You have WAY more energy than one person should be allowed to have. Very kind of you supporting the drive for getting kids school supplies. As for how many cartons of that seasonal lemon ice cream I have, it's 4 for now. Next week I plan on picking up 2 or 3 more.

Is all that drainage up and running, K2? And better yet for Art.......Is he back to his biking now? As for your mention of Kathi's whole wheat hot dog buns, it's still to happen. When we were at the grocery store yesterday she picked up the last of the ingredients she needs. It doesn't say anything about putting the "Gel-type baking gizmo" on a baking sheet. When she tested it in the oven Kathi put it right on the oven racks. No damage, no melting, no odd smells. So it passed that test.

Lee; I too hope you got some pool privileges at where you made the pool deck. NO skinny-dipping on your first visit.

Thought I’d best say good morning before another day slips away.
It’s only 66F here this morning. Quite a change from the past few mornings.
Best news ever that ”the vest” is no longer hanging on and around you Pat. Thank you for The Coasters tune. They were one of my Dad’s favourite groups.
It does sound like you’re counting down to the end of your HOA term Karen. Why folks just can’t get along and follow a few simple rules is beyond me.

Did you get the downpour yesterday Kathie? If so did the drain do its job? We got no rain here but friends to the north and east got heavy rain.
Jim and Gail always say to “just pop over for a dip” Dave. We don’t do stuff like that. Glad to go over if invited but not to simply show up, suits in hand on a whim.
And what is a “whim” anyway?
We have a square silicone baking tray and a silicone baking tray liner. We love them. I used giant silicone muffin trays when I was doing the coffee shop thing. Geez, that was about 100 years ago! The silicone things are durable, easy to get stuff out of and easy to clean.

DID YOU GET YOUR HEARING AIDS TENDED TO BILL? Oh wait, it was your hearing aids. Not your glasses. ;)
How’s the aches and pains Nancy?
Lu-Ann has a hair appointment this morning. Town has a 2 hour parking limit in most spots and she isn’t sure if she’ll be 90 minutes or a tad over the limit so I’ll drop her off, go to the hardware for some paint supplies (edging pads and small rollers) and pick her up when she’s done. It seems the local constabulary keeps an eye on spots that may be used by people getting their hair done and dutifully issues parking tickets. Which ticks the shop owners off to no end! Especially Fridays when parking is restricted starting at 2:00 so they can set up the weekly Open Air stuff.
You all have a great day!

I still need to get this 1st cup of coffee and then maybe I'll SMILE too.
I might even go over to McDonald's and get us a couple of those Egg/Sausage McMuffin things. Haven't had one of those in a long time.

KAREN: BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. It's a good thing. Keeps your mind active and young! :) I like the school supply drive idea. These days everybody needs any help they can get with buying that stuff. I know around here the teachers of each grade post lists on the school website of what they would like to have parents buy for the class. It's like UNBELIEVABLE how much EXTRA is needed to run a classroom for a year. Helps the teachers out, so they don't have to buy the extra supplies themselves. You're a GOOD SOUL for helping out KAREN! :girly:
Glad you got to go into the pool with the sisters.

It's 62F here right now. Much COOLER than the 75's we've had early in the morning. But it's still suppose to get warmer as the day goes on. Just NOT into the 95's like the last few days.

DAVE: Art got his drain project done. He wants to paint the white PVC pipe a tan color like the downspout, but it's not way up on his HIT PARADE LIST of things to do.
He still has the front lawn area to SEED where he was digging out huge stumps and roots.
And yes, he managed to get a nice bike ride in yesterday. Today is a off bike day.

Good to know that the new rubber type hot dog forms will work without being on a cookie sheet. Can't wait to see them.

I took my car to the self-serve car wash and gave it a nice washing. I have some BUG marks to scrub off today, but other than that the car looks good. It hadn't been washed since Winter. Gotta love the color WHITE it really doesn't show the dirt like darker colored cars.

Pat good for you getting the Heart Vest off. Now to decide if you want to put a "bra" back on again! Freedom to the boobs! Ha Ha.

Dave: As we were walking through Home Depot we passed a few small stand up self-defrost FREEZERS! I told Art that I bet if Dave owned this it would be full of ICE CREAM! Ha Ha. So we think of you often .... even in Home Depot.

Lee: We have a community not far from here that is very people friendly as far as restaurants and small shoppes go, but the PARKING on the STREET is $3 bucks a hour. They're building a parking structure, but I can't see it being any cheaper. We haven't been back there since they installed the expensive meters. It's the meters that you have to walk over to and put in the car location spot number and get a sticker and put it in your window. Way too much craziness if you ask me just to park and pay that much money.

Good morning. Today is Bruce's birthday and for 3 months we are the same age, which he always mentions since once my birthday comes around I again will be older than him. Last night we went to Benihana's for dinner and we both brought home enough food for another meal. Tonight we will have steak.

With my new hearing aids I have the filter and silicone end pieces, so if one decides not to work I can change the filter and that normally takes care of the problem, so far I have replaced the filter once for each aid, it is very easy.

Pat it is great to no longer have that vest and so nice that they called you to take it off and not make you wait until your appt.

Good afternoon, gang!

Kind off overcast here this morning, While those of you getting smoke from the fires in Canada, we're going to be dealing with our own problems here this weekend - Sahara Desert dust! It too is annoying are burns your eyes. Also bad for anyone with lung problems, so I guess I'll be spending my time in the house until this passes.

Karen - You sure have been busy these days. Good for you getting school supplies already. They collect them at our amenity center also. I saw where Publix has a whole page of school supplies on sale this week. I'll have to check it out or else stop at Dollar General.

Dave - So did you get the goodies you wanted at the grocery store? I've seen those silicone baking items at the store and was wondering how good they were. Thanks for telling us they won't melt. That was always my biggest fear.

Lee - I love when people say to just pop over to go in the pool anytime. I'd much rather get a drect invitation like "come over tomorrow at 1 for a pool party. We have so many friends who also give those open invitations, but we never do it.

Kathie - You're right ... It felt weird to put a bra on again, but "the girls" needed it! LOL So how was your breakfast sandwich? It's been years since I had one of them.

Need to cut this short. Bert just let me know that we're heading to Sam's in just a few minutes, so I better get ready. Hopefully, I can get back here later. In the meantime, have a great afternoon, everyone.
