I got into reading this and forgot to go upstairs and start dinner! I'll have to pick it up later, but this is fascinating to read! Thanks much.

No offense meant ... and I know it's an inappropriate stereotype ... but, on this kruise, I'll be honoring my Japanese roots. Will be dragging my camera(s) with me everywhere on this kruise!

Did you all listen to the lilting music at the very top of the thread?

And here's another of my favorites...

Aloha Oe - YouTube

This was written by Queen Liliuokalani (Hawai'i's last monarch) while she was imprisoned.

Oh Mary Ann....Thank you for posting that you tube video. It was beautiful and made my heart sing! One day, when it's right, we will go back to Maui too!

Thanks for Lahaina Luna Mary Ann! Love it...and it sent me listening to more Hawaii music. I'll share one of my favourites twice.

I'll Remember You...I love this song ... this version has some old photos mixed with new. If you have never been to Hawaii be assured that you will remember her just as this song says! ? "I'll Remember You" ? Andy Williams - YouTube

This is the same song but it is sung as a tribute to Israel "IZ" Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole a modern Hawaiian legend who died way too soon! It always makes me weep! Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau I'll Remember You - YouTube

Now I'm off to listen to Ka Lu A ... Don't know if I'm familiar with that one but I know already that I shall love it!

Beryl - I'm very familiar with I'll Remember You. My late Uncle gave us scads of what I would consider collector's item LP's, including one by Andy Williams that includes I'll Remember You, and my favorite version of Love Song of Kalua - the one to which I loved to dance.

The too soon passing of IZ was a tragedy, and mourned by just about everyone. His huge size claimed him far too soon.

Here are two versions of Nohile e, one sung by Bruddah Iz, and the other version sung by the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau. Beautiful voices, beautiful harmony...

Beryl and Mele Ana, you're killing me with that Hawai'ian music! I could listen to it all day long and I can't get anything done.

I'll bring Hawai'ian music with me on the Coastal. I could listen to the traditional sound night and day.

One of the very best souvenirs to bring back from Hawaii is some of her music!

Especially the traditional music. I love slack key. I never get tired of listening to beautiful Hawai'ian music.

When you and DH travel to Maui again, I hope you will make time to attend Feast at Lele in Lahaina one evening.
