We're home! Got in a little while ago. After all that food, I am ready to curl up and take a nap. Only bad part is that I'm going to be eating that gumbo all night!::eek: Sure was good thoug.

I wasn't kidding, PH, about you and Dennis coming down one of these days. Heck, you're often "in the neighborhood". Even if it's on short notice, give me a call. Most days we're usually around.

OK, I have got to get comfortable. See ya tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't stick around any longer, San. Here's a big HI for you!:wave

Morning! It was kind of grim out there this morning, but now the sun is shining in this area. I hope they are wrong about showers latter. Sprinklers came on last night, so we don't need any additional rain around here. JK - I know the whole area needs rain to stop the brush fires.

Guess I better fess up to San something that PH already knows ... We booked a Carnival cruise for April! We haven't done Carnival since 95 and figured it was time to see if they are doing as many cutbacks as RCCL. We're going on the Carnival Pride which is my favorite category ship they have. It's only doing 1 cruise out of Florida before heading up to Baltimore, so K&G convinced us to join them. It sure will be different not to get the perks we're used to, but what the heck ... And this wonderful TA up Boston way took care of everything. She's a keeper!:)

No upgrade for us on NV this time. By the time we got home last night, the website showed no cabins available anywhere on our sailing.:(

Time to think about some leftover consumption!

BB, from what I am reading, I am less sure that RCCL is the right cruise line for us. When I look at the diminishing perks, I am getting much more inclined to branch out to other lines. The biggest perk for us was the CL, and that is getting to be too stressful to get a seat in in the evening. My conversation with the person from C&A didn't really get me feeling better about the future.

So, anyway, I will be interested in hearing how Carnival treats you.

Good luck with the truck search.

I agree with you, San, that it's time to check out some other lines. It's been years since we did Carnival, so I really am curious to see how many changes they have. Of course, their stock is much higher than RCCL, so they probably haven't cut as many perks. Our old TA kept telling me that we should give Princess a try. He said their prices are good and, unlike RCCL, you actually can get upgrades. We'll have to check it out one of these days.
We have friends who love and only cruise on Holland America. I don't think we'd be a good fit for that one. There's not much life to the ship at night. Our friends go to bed early and get up early, so it fits them perfectly.

PH - Have you decided yet about taking that road trip? If you go, have a safe trip and I hope Dennis finds what he wants.

It seems to me that there is more and more complaints about RCCL on CC.....cut backs and relatively high prices...with fewer and fewer people defending the company. It may be time for us to reconsider Princess.....we're platinum with 6 cruises on them.......I don't like how hard it is to get traditional dining on their ships....but, maybe if we book early enough. I'll see how we feel after the SR cruise in June.

Does Princess and Carnival give you equal status like RCCL & Celebrity do? You know - platinum on one, same level on the other. I don't remember any levels on Carnival, but I wasn't particularly looking for it.

Pretty day ahead around here. It's also BINGO night!! See how easily I am amused? And I don't want any comments from the west coast, ya hear?

By the way - Happy Friday the 13th!!!!::eek::)D

I don't know if Carnival recognizes Princess's loyalty program.....or vice versa. It's worth looking into though.

Yeah, I'll have to check into that. Maybe our friendly neighborhood TA would know. Rita????

Found out something interesting from my SIL. We have the RCCL Visa card and use points for things involved with an RCCL cruise. Laurie & Ron have the Carnival Visa. They can use their points toward a cruise on any cruiseline or on airfare. I thought that was a good deal. We've got 150,000+ points that I have to figure out how to use. Think we might get some 50,000 coupons and use them to get $500. off a cruise. That works for me. Under the old plan, that 150,000 points would have gotten us a cruise with a balcony cabin on Mariner valued up to $2500. They've changed the rules too much and now it's not worth using all your points. 150,000 points only gets you a "free" outside cabin on a 7 day cruise. That stinks!:X

I don't know if they have reciprocal levels on the Carnival family, but I'll find out. I know if you have a cruise on any one of their lines, they consider you a past passenger on all of them, but I don't know if they will transfer say your "gold" status from one line to another.

Tony, e-mail sent to you, you old b******. Saved more bucks, good for youl.

We're heading out to dinner with Kevin, Jamie and their kids. Don't know yet where we are headed, but it doesn't matter.

Talked with C & A today and was told they are sending a report every month to the powers that be with all the names of the people who are expressing their dissatisfaction with the inability to combine coupons, next cruise obc, and diamond discounts. The rep I spoke to said she had over 700 names last month who were unhappy with the new policies, and most of them were platinum and diamond members (make sense, because platinum, diamond and diamond plus are the ones most affected by the new policies.) I'm hoping the powers that be realize that they are aggravating their most loyal guests, and do something about it. I know that many people complained when Bank of America raised the free cruise from 125, 000 points to 250,000, and they were able to get the free cruise reduced to 125,000 (but it's for the least expensive outside cabin instead of $2500 towards whatever cabin you wanted). Not a total win for the consumer, but at least not a total loss, IMHO. So, next time you have a reason to talk to C & A, you might want to express your opinion and even give them your name. Of course, after today, I probably will never see another D+ upgrade!!!!!!

Talk with you all later.

Rita (Started this before dinner, finished it after dinner....had shrimp scampi, YUMMY)

BB-The Pride was the first Carnival ship we cruised on after moving to Florida...took Gary on the Pride for this 50th birthday in 2002. The glass staircase to the supper club is amazing...don't look down.

PQ - We were on the Pride right after it came out. It was also our first balcony and totally hooked us. That glass staircase is something else, isn't it? I loved David's, the supper club. It ran rings around Chops & Portofino. I just hope they haven't made too many cuts and I won't be disappointed with it this time. That is our favorite class Carnival ship.
Heard about all the deep cuts coming to the schools. 500+ teachers losing their jobs is unbelievable. Maybe they should look into getting rid of some of the honchos at the county office. They are earning many times a teacher's salary. They should also can FCAT and let teachers teach the way they were taught to do their job. As everyone on here knows, that is a very sore subject with me and the reason I took early retirement. They keep on chopping teacher jobs and increasing class size, sooner or later parents are going to sue the school system!:X

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!! Hope it's off to a great start for everyone. We decided not to go out for dinner tonight, so I'm making Bert dinner with all his favorites - shrimp cocktail, filet mignon, lobster tails and baked sweet potatoes. Would have done the chocolate covered strawberries, but he doesn't like them. Besides, after all that food, he doesn't need dessert!!!

Rita - I will definitely b*tch, if I have to talk to C&A. Reading CC main board, you can see a lot of people thinking about switching to another line. RCCL better watch out or they're going to lose a lot of their most loyal and frequent customers.
