We went to Paradise Beach several years ago and loved it. We were the first ones there and we had the beach all to ourselves, and we had some time in the water before the crowds began arriving. Before that we would not even go beyond the shopping area at the docks . We had been down town several times and didn't care for it. We really enjoyed our day there and will go back again.

We had planned to go to PB several times but never made it..hopefully we'll make it this time... the good news is I think there is 1 other ship in port with us... so shouldn't be any crowds! I think in GC we are the only ship...

Hi all,

Got home around 7 last night....had a wonderful time. Ship is in great condition, weather was sunny and HOT. I stayed onboard in KW as the others were going to Mel Fisher's, and I've been there. They came back onboard hot and sweaty. We went to San Francisco Beach in Cozumel. No charge for chairs and umbrellas, as long as you eat and/or drink $10 pp. No problem, as we had drinks and lunch......4 of us with cocktails, water, soda, chicken finger dinners, fish sandwich, and fish dinner, came to $62, so Ceasear, our waiter, got $80 as he was very attentive. We had chairs just a foot or so from the water, they had showers and clean bathrooms, and a fresh water pool where you could rinse off the salt after swimming. The sand was nice, we didn't need beach shoes. It was a $13 cab ride, plus tip each way from the ship. We got there around 10:30 and stayed until around 3, which is not normal for us, usually a hour and a half to two hours is all we can stay on the beach. No crowds to speak of. Paradise Beach is right next door. Sign said admittance was $12 pp, but that gives you use of all the water toys, but not the motorized ones. We weren't planning on using the water toys, so we just stayed at San Francisco Beach. The Carnival Fantasy was in port with us, but neither beach was crowded......however, there were more young people at PB as they wanted to use the water slide and iceberg.

We decided that the vendors at the pier are much too aggressive, so we just went back to the ship. If we stopped to look at anything they were right in our face, so we didn't buy a thing. They'd be much better off if they left you alone to look at stuff.....we probably would have bought stuff, but it was too much of a hassle.

Didn't use the CL, as my friends are diamond, so only my cabinmate could go in with me. However, Anthony in the Diamond Event (which was held in the Champagne Bar) took very good care of us (and we took good care of him). We had a fabulous waitress in MTD (Michelle) and a fabulous room steward (also a Michelle) who couldn't do enough for us. If anyone is doing MTD, I suggest you ask for Michelle (we usually were at table 211).

Definitely no lifejackets at muster drill, which made it much more pleasant. Casino wasn't paying too many jackpots, at least we didn't hear a lot of announcements of the jackpots. Toilets in our section didn't work at least 3 times during the cruise, which was a pain. Sinks also had some yellow water coming out of the faucets a couple of times. Chops was great, as usual.

Seas were very calm the whole cruise......I like a little motion......I like to know I'm on a ship! Not too many young adults on this cruise, mostly middle agers. Embarkation was a breeze, as was debarking. All in all, we had a great time. Also, spent the night before at Embassy Suites in FLL, and loved the hotel.....big clean rooms, beautiful pool, managers cocktail reception, free hot breakfast and close to other restaurants, even though the hotel restaurant was reasonbly priced and had our lunch there which was quite good. I would do this cruise again in a heartbeat!

See you all later.

Rita

I spoke to Pat & Bert yesterday and hope she won't be too disappointed in the Schooner Bar piano player. To say he was awful, would be an understatement. Some ladies offered him $100 to STOP playing:no:.

Rita, sounds like you had a great cruise! Did you have to show your Seapass to get a beach towel?
Hmmmm...so now PB is charging $12pp to get in?? We may have another change in plans...since they are right next door the girls can pay to go to PB since they want the toys...us "older" girls may just enjoy the pool at San Francisco...we had planned on buying food & drink..but I don't like having to pay an entrance fee as well...

Hi,

yes, KC, you had to show your SeaPass card and they scanned it. Towels were the new ones that we first saw on Freedom OTS pre-inaugural (and heard some TA's bragging about how they stole them) and they are nicer, thicker and larger than the old gold ones. They are blue and white and have Royal Caribbean written on them.....not the same towels offered by Gifts and Gear, but not much different. You also get your SeaPass card scanned when you return the towels, and I do think they are serious about the $20 charge, because I heard someone at Guest Relations disputing the towel charge on the SeaPass account.

KC, it's easy for the girls to walk over and get a wristband to pay to use the toys. We saw couples walking from further down the beach and getting the bands to use the stuff. I don't know if there is a regular charge to use just the beach at Paradise. The sign said $12, but San Francisco beach also had a sign saying $10, but we were told as long as we ate or drank $10 pp, there was no charge to use the facilities. Maybe Paradise Beach operates the same way, but I don't know for sure. I know Playa Mia had a $19 entrance fee, but that got you open bar (rum punch, beer, some soft drinks) and the beach chair and umbrella. We went there in March when we were on NV, and it was nice, but we wanted to try something different......I would go back to San Francisco beach again.

PH, was "Nate" the piano man on MN? That was the name of the guy on EN.

The Diamond event was quite nice, not very private, though, as the Champagne Bar is right in the Centrum area. No h'ors d'oerves, though, only the mix they put out in the Schooner Bar......missed those shrimp and chicken things. We had a waiter who was very good, but service is very slow, as he is the only waiter for the Diamond event, which can get very crowded at times. Aldo was the replacement Concierge. He's been with RCI for three years, but is just filling in as concierge until Diego returns from vacation. Diego was our concierge onboard Legend and he was great. Aldo was fine, we only went one night and had one drink, as the others in our party were only diamond, so they couldn't go in. Better to be with friends! We did use the CL as the departure lounge, but only had a chance to sit for about thirty seconds when we got notified we could leave the ship.

PH, did you get any more news about Paul?

Rita

Have not met Paul but, he lives near where I grew up and I have read his posts many times, so, I guess you kinda get to know someone when you have followed their cruises. He seems very nice and Gordon has confirmed it. I wish him and his family the very best.

PH, we turned the heat on this morning, so I know what you mean! After being so hot on the cruise last week, it felt good (for about two minutes) then I wanted the warm weather back!

I feel so bad about Paul. He was sick on the Mariner cruise, it seems he's been sick quite a bit since he got back from there, but who thought it was this serious. We should treasure each moment we have, as you never know. Did you mean to say he wasn't feeling 100% when you went to the FLL event? I know he's been hospitalized a few times recently, but until he got pnemonia, he seemed to be doing better.

Did you see the story about the Carnival Legend hitting the EN in Cozumel?
Looks like both ships are OK, and I hope no one was injured. BB should have some good stories to tell us when she returns.

Off to the office....see you all later.

Rita
