Good evening & Happy New Year, hasn't been the greatest start to the year news wise, I hope & pray it gets better!

Lee, I get the feeling you are a wee bit excited to be hitting the road tomorrow! Sending prayers for a safe trip south & a relaxing visit after you arrive!

Kathie, that is one fancy looking pizza oven! Haven't made homemade pizza in years but it sure is good with fresh ingredients for sure!

Mike, are you sure you weren't just playing "possum" until Fay got all the decorations put away?

Dave, sausage, sauerkraut & mashed potatoes is one tradition I don't believe I've heard of before. Pork & sauerkraut yes, especially here in the south, along with black eyed peas. I had pork chops & sweet potatoes for dinner this evening.

Got the tree undecorated & put away in record time this morning, it sure comes down a lot faster than it goes up. Had the Rose Parade on while I was doing that, hadn't watched that in years, but it's still as pretty as ever. And amazing that everything used to decorate the floats are flower or some other organic material!
Unplugged the timers for the outside lights & took some of the stuff down, will take the rest down probably Sat. if the weather is nice.
Going to Jane's tomorrow to put away her outdoor decorations & hook up her new portable A/C unit I got her for Christmas. Hoping it goes well & she has time to give me a haircut, I'm looking rather raggedy about now.
I think there are a few Christmas cookies to finish off before they get stale, have a great evening all!

Our thoughts are with you Lee, your bride and that cute little daughter of yours. Wishing you a safe and pleasant ride south. You are getting out of Dodge at the perfect time, since a cold wave is coming into this area and an even colder one is coming in for next week. Looking forward to your on-the-road posts.

K2; Can't say I've ever had a pizza that was made in an outdoor pizza-grill. Makes me wonder if it tastes any different than one made in an oven. Hamburgers taste different when cooked on an outdoor grill.......so maybe. Neither Kathi or I made it to midnight to watch the ball drop. And as far as we know there were no fireworks going off in our neighborhood.

Glad you heard about the Rose Bowl Parade before it started, Mike. I was pleased with the final score of the Buckeyes/Ducks game.

KC; I'm glad that you too got to see the Rose Bowl Parade. Nothing, anywhere else, is quite like it. And nothing smells like it either, if you are ever lucky enough to be there to view it. I can be dense at time, so would you explain something to me? What do you mean by a "portable AC unit"? Is that a window unit?

Kathi's going to be making a run to the larger grocery store this morning. Below freezing a bit, but only a 5% chance of precipitation.

Here is the unit I ordered Jane, it's a free standing on wheels & vent's thru a window or in her case a modified doggie door in her sliding glass door. These have more cooling power than a reg. window unit plus they can be moved easier. Cost less than $300 at Home Depot & I got 18 month 0% interest.

Lee & Lu-Ann you guys were sure up early! Lee, you posted at 4:08 A.M. Wow. Sorry I missed sending you off. This is for you both. Be SAFE. If you're tired or the weather is bad pull over.

29F and just dreary outside! Brrr.

Good day to take the Christmas decorations down.

Karen: That's one fancy A/C unit you got Jane. Nice that if necessary, she can move it around. I need to bring up the plastic containers and start taking down most of the X-mas deco. I use to keep it up for Orthodox Christmas, but I just want to clean the place up. I should start with the TREE, it has the most little things on it. Thanks goodness it's a skinny tree! Ha Ha

Mike/DAVE: It was nice that OHIO beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl Game. Always nice when one of the teams from the EAST wins! :clap002:
And the Rose Bowl Parade is always such a treat. Just can't get over all the seeds, flowers, etc that go into each float. I like when they take you into the huge bldgs and show the volunteers working on the floats.

Dave: I'll let you know how the Pizza tastes in the outside grill as soon as we get over there for PIZZA NIGHT!! I'm thinking it's the same, just maybe quicker. Jill does make a good dough and we all get to put on our own toppings.
I thought of you the other day when I went to get some Lotto Tickets on New Years Eve. The Smoke shop was closed and I had to go to the Liquor store. WOW, I haven't been in that store in years and has it changed. I just can't imagine how many isles and walls units were filled with BOOZE. If you can't find it in that store you don't need it. I'm just glad I'm not a BOOZER.....that liquid gold is expensive.

STAY WARM WRABBITS and remember today is
THURSDAY!! :emoticon 0102 bigsmile:

I'll be back to see if Lee / Lu-Ann / Ava check in!

breaking news trinity GIF

I saw on Facebook that Rita (Bill's wife for those who need a update) is spending the Winter in Vero Beach! Good for Rita continuing the tradition of spending Winter out of cold Mass!
I found this picture of Bill & Rita in better times!
Kevin, their son, helped get Rita all settled in down in Florida. Just had to pass that good news on.
Miss you Negc. Watch over the Rita and the rest of us.

From high atop The Altoona Motor Hotel overlooking the twinkling lights from the sparkling city…Wait, that’s the opening to a remake of Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes” by the band Harper’s Bizarre” back around 1967. :)
We are in The Drury in Louisville. A few snow showers on the way down but nothing that slowed the journey. Thank you all for the safe travels wishes. I’m sure they helped! We were the third car at The Ambassador Bridge at 8:01. We didn’t get on I75 until 8:34! The border guys were checking everyone, asking every question and in many cases popping trunks and inspecting things! We had passed him our passports and Ava’s CDC form. When asked if we were importing anything we said “no”. He then said “so you have no clothes, no food, nothing back there“. We told him we had clothes for our stay and he said “so you ARE importing goods.” Knowing who holds the power we said “well then, I guess we are”.
I was up to pee at 4:08 Kathie which is why there was a preplanned post. Loved The Muppets! Thanks for letting us know about Rita. Good for her.
How cool to have been to The Rose Parade Dave.
That’s a neat compact AC unit Karen. Hopefully it all got connected and you had time for your haircut.
Coffee and cookies today Mike?
In the “some things never change“ department, time to walk and feed Ava before Lu-Ann and I head to our 5:30 kickback and beloved glass of red wine.
Tomorrow we head to stop number two at The Drury by Atlanta Airport. See you tomorrow!

Thank You So Much GIF by Chippy the Dog
LEE / Lu-Ann.... thanks for the heads up that you made it the 1st stop! :clap002:

Glad the border guy had somewhat of a sense of humor! All the best driving on Friday!

I managed to get Christmas decorations down and into the basement! Looks a little drabby around here now. I'll get use to it! Kitchen floor can use a good washing, but it will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm done for today.

Have a good evening all. :emoticon 0115 inlove:

Yes, I had coffee and cookies againg today, I may have the same tomorrow. Have you ever had a Costco Chocolate Cookie? You have probably heard this a 1000 times, but even if you are going to He__ you have to go thru Atlanta.
K2, if Ohio plays with the same intensity ?? they should take it all. Thanks for the picture of Bill and Rita.
That sound like a very handy unit Karen, I will think of it for Fay if I ever turn the heat up this winter.

Here it is, January the third.

Now that we've made it through Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years we now enter the Ho-Hum part of the year where we mostly just look forward to the coming of spring. I can't think of what the first holiday is. Maybe you know.

Thanks so much KC for showing what a "Portable AC Unit" is. I never knew they made such a thing. Those things pretty much make window air conditioners obsolete.

You may be right K2 that the porch pizza grills don't change the flavor but just makes them cook faster. Thanks for the heads up that that Rita still will go to Florida in winter although Bill has passed.

We really do appreciate your progress reports on your travels, Lee. Does Ava have to stay in the room while you enjoy your wine, or does she get to go along with you?

And THE Ohio State football team isn't done yet, Mike. I think they take on Texas Friday the 10th. Still have to dig up the particulars. Sometime just finding out what channel it's being broadcast on is the biggest problem.

Zip for plans today.

A quick good morning before we pack up and head to “he!!” as Mike called it. It’s better with the toll lanes but still a challenge for driving.
Ava stays in the room while we enjoy our “kickback” Dave. Last night was pulled pork sliders, beans, mac n cheese and the such. If we have a little wine left we take our cups up to the room.
Time to get going.
Hi to the gang.
See you from Atlanta.

It's FRIDAY just in case anybody is still mixed up. I am.

Lee: Thanks for the morning check in. You left just in time. We got a dusting of snow last night here that covered the grass. Yup, it's ALL WHITE outside at 8:00 a.m. Good move to get out of town! Ha Ha. Hope you have a smooth ride today. Hello to Lu-Ann and AVA! Those snacks sounded very yummy.

I'll catch up with the rest of you later. Going to get back under the covers and watch the morning news. :emoticon 0115 inlove: Waiting for the smell of coffee to get me up and out of bed!

Safe and sound at The Drury by the Atlanta airport. I can see aircraft landing and taking off from our window. I know Kathie will be checking to see that we’re in. This is Ava, with her toy, reading her book before bed last night.

The toll road…it was open. But heading north! That blood curdling scream…that was me sitting in the traffic.
Time to head to dinner but I’ll check back later with tales from the road.

AVA you are a cutie. Sweet dreams girl!
Lee: Thanks for the check-in. We WRABBITS like to know that you made it to your stop safely.
Freezing cold up here today and tonight.
5:45 pm it is 26F with HORRIBLE WINDCHILL! Good you guys got out of town, even if the temps never get past 65F it's worth it!! :emoticon 0102 bigsmile:

So glad that Rita is spending the Winter down South at Vero Beach. :smilie1:

About 18 choir singers are going to go Caroling at some of our Senior Citizens that unable to get out and about to church. (Our Christmas is almost here.... Jan 7th!)
We'll be singing outside at 2 places and inside at 2 place and then having a late lunch at a local restaurant. There is a VAN that our choir director rented for some of the members to ride in. I'm driving my car, because I'm not into sitting in close quarters with a bunch of people talking and breathing, etc. Last thing I want to get is COVID or a COLD.

Speaking of Covid, my sister-in-law is in the hospital with COVID. She had a attack of AFib and went to the hospital. She had the Covid before she got to the hospital. This is the 3rd time she's had Covid. They wanted to get the AFib under control and make sure she didn't have Pneumonia. She didn't!
So make sure you folks take measures to protect yourselves if out and about in crowds.

Safe travels on Saturday Lee, Lu-Ann and Ava.

A left turn light that never changed from red - so after a while when the way was clear I went anyway. A hotel with no “public” restrooms. A Panera Bread with no cream for coffee. A highway department vehicle driving in the center lane doing 45mph in a 70mph zone spraying the road with deicer. A FedEx twin trailer who cut me off twice because he was lost and wanted to change lanes at will. Just a few of the fun things that we encountered. But at least we made it!
And well ahead of Winter Storm Blair. The folks in the states we passed through and talked to are in full panic mode anticipating this doozy of a winter storm.
Dinner tonight was meatballs, mashed potatoes, steamed veg, salad and of course, a glass of red wine.
Enjoy your time entertaining the seniors Kathie. What a fun and rewarding thing to do.
I’m confused Dave. I always thought the big bowl game was the final game of the season and the number 1 team was decided from there. Is MLK day in January a holiday?
Hi Karen and Mike.
I’m gonna put my feet up. Tomorrow’s checkin will be, fingers crossed, from “our” Florida home.

That was a mixed up evening tonight Lee. Atlanta is not used to snow, it does not take much snow to put a halt to the city. Maybe you will be out there before the snow comes. Safe traveling tomorrow. Nice picture of Ave
Dont freeze when you are singing K2, If your temps are going to be like ours, it is going to get pretty cold. hoping your sister in law will be okay.
