First of all, San, why should I be kicking a** in Belfast? Do you know Coxswain? I don't even want to comment on the folks who are upset about the RC's. No one campaigned for it, no one said pick me, pick me. No one even knows what criteria were used, so how can they think they are more entitled than the ones selected. We have all had disappointments with not being selected for something, whether it was a job, a club, or something else. We have all felt at times that we are better/more worthy/more entitled than the person who got picked. We are all supposedly adults......life has its disappointments. If the biggest disappointment in their life is not being a RC, they need to get a life. I promise not to say another word on the subject, as I am sick to death of it.
IMHO, Travel Guard is one of the best insurances around. Given your age, I would pick the Protect and Assist. It is cheaper than Cruise Tour and Travel. The prime difference is P & A is secondary, and CT&T is primary.
Only means if you have a medical claim, and you pick P & A, you need to submit the claim to your own insurance company first, then after they pay some or decline, you need to submit to Travel Guard. I have a great relationship with the rep from Travel Guard, and he even agrees that given MY age (and that of DH), Protect & Assist is the better deal. We are able to submit any claims to our own insurance company, so that's not a problem. If you don't want the hassle, buy C T & T, but if you don't mind submitting to your own company, then P & A is a better buy. I have had clients collect on both. One client has had to cancel cruises three times, and TG has paid claims in all of them, even including the price of the husband's tux rental and the price of a private tour in Normandy (I know this for a fact, as they were travelling with us and were the other couple sharing the private tour...which was $650 for the tour, $325 per couple, and it was paid).
Either policy will pay for cancellation. I can send you brochures on both, so you can put them side by side and compare. Frankly, Bill and I NEVER travel without it. His mother is almost 95, so that's a concern, and
you just never know. My sister had an auto accident 9 days before her cruise, and couldn't go. No insurance, she wouldn't buy it. Believe me, since that time, she won't travel without it (and I won't sell her a cruise unless she buys the insurance, haha). Some of the reimbursement amounts differ between the two types of policies, but the amounts on P & A are sufficient for what we need. It's definitely a personal decision, but knowing the reluctance of the cruiselines to reimburse anyone for any reason who has not purchased insurance, I always recommend it. We try not to use Berkeley Care (insurance from the cruiselines), but even that insurance is better than no insurance, IMHO.
If you do buy online for any of your cruises, just send me the policy number so I can put it in the records, just in case you need to file a claim.
PH, sounds like you had a busy day.
PQ, sorry about Gary, hope something turns up soon. Our daughter has been out of work since last June, she was quite happy at the time, but now is getting itchy about going back. She can have her old job back, but the company has moved. It used to be 5 minutes from her house, but now it would be a one hour commute each way.......makes the decision a bit difficult.
