Quartermaster (Helmsman) - QM
Well, it's not been a wonderful day. DS was diagnosed with diabetes, and his blood sugar was over 400. (Normal is 80-120). He's been feeling poorly for about two weeks, figured it was flu or something, but yesterday he went to the emergency room on orders from his doctor, and was admitted to the hospital last evening. While in the ER they gave him insulin, and he got chest pains, so they scheduled a stress test this morning. However, after taking an X-ray of his heart and another EKG, they noticed changes to the EKG from yesterday, no major changes, just minor, but they cancelled the stress test and scheduled him for a cardiac catherization tomorrow. I have been picking up the kids and taking them up to the hospital, so besides being worried sick about him, I'm exhausted. I went to the office to finish up a few things, but had to leave to do grandma duty. Hopefully everything will be fine tomorrow, but it's scary to see this big strapping six foot two guy with oxygen, heart monitor, IV's and lots of other things attached to him.
The diabetes doctor was in this afternoon and said he thought he'd be on insulin for about a month till they get his sugar regulated, then probably be on medication by mouth. Bill has diabetes and takes pills, so we are hoping that Kevin will be able to go that route. Must be those genes, both Bill and his mother have diabetes, so I'm not totally surprised about DS.
Please say a prayer for a successful outcome tomorrow.....that's a mother talking, I know, but I am worried. No matter how old the kids are, you still worry.
We'll talk to you tomorrow.
