Well, it's not been a wonderful day. DS was diagnosed with diabetes, and his blood sugar was over 400. (Normal is 80-120). He's been feeling poorly for about two weeks, figured it was flu or something, but yesterday he went to the emergency room on orders from his doctor, and was admitted to the hospital last evening. While in the ER they gave him insulin, and he got chest pains, so they scheduled a stress test this morning. However, after taking an X-ray of his heart and another EKG, they noticed changes to the EKG from yesterday, no major changes, just minor, but they cancelled the stress test and scheduled him for a cardiac catherization tomorrow. I have been picking up the kids and taking them up to the hospital, so besides being worried sick about him, I'm exhausted. I went to the office to finish up a few things, but had to leave to do grandma duty. Hopefully everything will be fine tomorrow, but it's scary to see this big strapping six foot two guy with oxygen, heart monitor, IV's and lots of other things attached to him.

The diabetes doctor was in this afternoon and said he thought he'd be on insulin for about a month till they get his sugar regulated, then probably be on medication by mouth. Bill has diabetes and takes pills, so we are hoping that Kevin will be able to go that route. Must be those genes, both Bill and his mother have diabetes, so I'm not totally surprised about DS.

Please say a prayer for a successful outcome tomorrow.....that's a mother talking, I know, but I am worried. No matter how old the kids are, you still worry.

We'll talk to you tomorrow.

Rita, Nancy and I will be thinking of your son tomorrow and hoping for the best outcome. It's really scarey when our kids end up needing medical attention. Try not to woory too much, he's in the hospital and they can do wonderful things these days.

Packing almost done, no upgrades again, BB....[lucky you].....don't expect them anymore, but I check anyway. I think RCI just wants D+s to go away.....atleast, that's the impression that they're giving me. This will most likely be our last RCI cruise.

Rita - Bert & I will keep Kevin and you all in our thoughts and prayers that tomorrow's procedure will go smoothly. Some things never change - We worry about them when they're little and we worry about them when they're all grown up. That's a mother thing.

Glad you're all packed San. Wouldn't want to see you throwing things in the suitcase as you're running down the driveway! Like I said before, have a wonderful cruise and can't wait to hear all about it. Bon Voyage!!! Have a drink for me and not a freebie in the CL. I'd like a Bailey's Irish Cream, if you please.

Good morning & happy Friday! Bet the CA gang is ready to get on the move, if they haven't already left.

Lots of good thoughts heading north this morning that all will go well.

No great news up in Ocala today, PH, except that they raided an internet cafe on 200 that was actually a gambling hall. Funniest part was that some of the customers in that place at the time of the raid were in their 80s!

And that's about all I have to say this morning. Planning to hit the home show in Orlando sometime today. Also need to call Brian & Laurie's godmother this afternoon. We haven't talked in at least 4 years! Just never get the chance, but we made up our minds that today is the day! She & I were partners in crime back in NJ. We used to talk for hours on the phone "back in the old days", so I expect this to be one of those kind of calls too. We haven't seen each other in at least 18 years!!! Can you tell that I'm excited?:boogie:

Glad I typed softly enough that I didn't wake you this morning. Wish I could sleep that late once in a while. I've been awake since 6:30 and actually up since 7:15.
I never knew that HGTV goes to informercials at 4 AM. Who would have thunk it? I figured they'd just keep showing the same programs over and over. Ya learn something new every day!!!

Guess I should think about getting lunch ready. Didn't have anything for breakfast and now I'm starving!

Just finished a yummy hot corned beef on rye. Only thing missing from a NY deli experience was the Kosher dill pickle! Now I'm stuffed.

Enjoy your lunch and say hi to Dennis for us.

Gordon - All set for the game tomorrow? We've got lots of munchies plus plenty of beer and wine. It'll just be Bert & I watching the game in our nice cool family room (as opposed to roasting in the stadium) wearing our blue shirts. With all the food and drinks we have, we really have our work cut out for us!!!:clap:GO GATORS!!

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers. DS is back in his room, no stents needed. He called Bill a little while ago (I was at the office) and he was still groggy, but he said all went well. Hopefully he can come home later today or tomorrow. Blood sugar was just over 200 this morning, but when up after the catherization, so still need to get it under control. GS is having a bad time with asthma, so he's off to the doctor and GD is complaining about a sore throat.......when it rains, it pours. GS has trouble with asthma during change of seasons.....had to take him to the hospital in Celebration one year during a trip to FLA, but granddaughter is on antibiotics for a urinary infection, so her sore throat is either a virus or an attention getter....who knows, but both will be seen (or probably have been by now).

Tony & Nancy, have a wonderful trip, if I didn't miss you already.

Bill is feeling a bit better, at least he's up and around and not in bed. Cold seemed to knock him down quite a bit, but cough is much better, head is less stuffy, and he's starting to get hungry, so he must be feeling better.

Talk with you all later and thanks again.

Glad all went well, Rita. The doctors sure are going to be smiling with all the money they're going to make off your family this week! Poor kids not to feel well and your poor DIL to have to handle all this at once. Good to hear that Bill is feeling better too. Nothing like when a man has a cold, huh? You know what I mean!:hammer:
With all these cruises you have on tap, I lost track of when you're going to be spending time here in Florida again. Refresh my memory, please.

Hey, BB, I sure do know what you mean:hammer:

Heading up to the hospital for a quick visit, then back to the grind here at home. Kids are better, GD is fine, throat culture was normal, GS got some extra heavy medicine to put in the machine he needs, and son is complaining he's hungry.

I don't know when we'll be in Florida again. I suggested to Bill that he go down while I'm on the cruise with my friends, then I could drive up and we could go look at a few nursing homes for his mother. She has about another month before she has to leave rehab, and I know he wants to check out a few places, but he hasn't done anything yet. Better happen soon, as we leave for the repo on October 27, and it will have to be done before then, as I think her days expire around the middle of Oct., but I could be wrong (it's happened once or twice before:D)

Talk with you later.

Gordon - Your menu sounds great!

Just got home from the home show and going out for dinner. While we were right by I Drive for the show, we decided to go to Bahama Breeze for dinner. Sorry PH! I had their new tropical fruit salad with chicken. Man, is it ever delicious. I've seen ads for it and it looked so good. It definitely was as delicious as it looked. Best part is that I still have plenty for lunch tomorrow!

Not much on TV tonight. Bert just got the new Dan Brown book from the library. Think I'll start reading it and see if I want to steal it away from him!

PH - You and Dennis must be busy. Haven't heard from you since lunchtime yesterday. So what are you up to? Inquiring minds need to know!!!
By the way, here's the big news in Ocala this morning - Felix's on the Blvd. officially becomes an Italian restaurant today! They're going to be incorporating some of the recipes they used when they used to run Bella Luna in the pre Felix days. I loved Bella Luna. You'll have to try it and let me know if it's any good.

Time to get a few things done around here this morning before it's time to watch some football!!!

Felix's was ok, but not great in my opinion. First time we ate there was back in 83 and it was called the 1890 Beef House at that time. The food was fantastic. Don't know what happened, but the next time we ate there was after we moved down (early 85) and the place was really shabby with wall paper falling off the walls and lots of uninvited critters running up and down the walls! UGH!!! Closed right after that. Eventually became an antique shop and finally Felix's moved in. Now you know most of the history of the place!!!! There will be a quiz in the morning. LOL

Did someone neglect to tell that lady that you just don't sing Rocky Top within 100 miles of UF? Back in the old days, I used to love that song. Now I totally get grossed out everytime I hear it! Someone should have requested We Are the Boys of Old Florida. Bet plenty of people there would have known that one! Right, Gordon?

Time to put on ESPN Game Day!!! YIPPY!!!!

Hi,

BB, congrats on the GATOR win. I'm sure it's the first of many this season.

DS got discharged from the hospital yesterday, but can't return to work for at least a week. All the heart tests were fine, thank God, but he has to give himself insulin shots. He was upset when he get his prescriptions filled and found it would cost him $137 for the test strips, which his insurance won't cover for the glucose meter the hospital gave him. However, even though they GAVE it to him, all the supplies in it were out of code, and the battery was dead, so I think he'll be buying his own meter after he sees the doctor next Friday. Even if he doesn't need the insulin, he'll still have to check his blood sugar a couple of times a day....Bill only has to check it once a day now.

His cold is much better, but now I'm getting it. I've been taking Zicam, and I think it's holding the cold at bay, but I have a parched throat and a slight cough and slightly stuff nose I can't decide if I should forget the Zicam and just let the cold come, but I don't want to fly with a head cold, and I don't want to get on the ship coughing and sneezing. I'll have to plead allergies, I guess.

I'm still waiting to see if I get an upgrade for our cruise on Thursday. Usually a TA upgrade doesn't happen until 72-24 hours before sailing, so I may not know until we board. There is one OS still available, so I'm hoping no one takes it between now and Thursday.

Our repo cruise is pretty full, only a few JS's left, so I'll have to hope for a TA upgrade for that one. You never know, someone might cancel at the very last minute.

BB, I'm sure we'll be visiting Kevin's in KW on Friday. We'll all have a drink for you! I just hope it's not as hot as when we were there in March.
It was so hot and humid you couldn't breathe, so we just went to CVS to get Bill some new sunglasses, then went back on ship. I really don't care, except that I'd like my friends to experience Kevin's.

Any suggestions for Cozumel? We've gone to the beaches there, but I think it will probably be a day for Senor Frog's.....I think that's at least close to the ship, so we won't have to worry about getting back. Has anyone ever tried Nachi Cocum? It looks interesting, even though it's pricey.

Enjoy football Sunday.....Patriots play at 1, so I'll have to plan to do some ironing while there on.

Hope San and Nancy are enjoying their cruise.

Rita
