Good, let me check, yep, it's afternoon.
We actually had light sweat shirts on for our walk this morning. It was about 56F not counting the cool breeze off Lake Erie and the Detroit River. Then we headed in to Windsor so I could divest myself of the accursed heart monitor. A quick side trip to a bakery we heard about and home it was.
Good call to get to the ER Dave! Steroids are a real handful. They do tend to mask things and then there's the whole need to wean off of them slowly. It sounds like Buddy may need a baby gate to keep him in one room until he earns his freedom.
Excellent idea to keep Sparkplug in an enclosed area Karen. It should like he can be a little skittish with strangers. Yes, Wendy sure has had more than her fair share of loss this past while. Mmmm. Macaroni Salad.
Our fire works started here on July 1 and will likely continue through July 4th Kathie. They really need to concentrate on the kind that are pretty to watch but don't scare the bejeepers out of pets and anyone with PTSD.
Well Pat, if you think that the NHL and NFL are brutal you should see a lacrosse game! Those players are just nuts! I think Bill and Rita's Taylor played Canada's National Game. Yep, it's not hockey it's lacrosse. Unless the violation letter is wrapped around a brick and it hits offenders squarely on the noggin I don't think they'll care either.
There must be a weather system around. Bear is pacing, panting and puffing. Time to get him a shot of his CBD oil.
I hope that all of you have a great day and remember, the best fire works are sold by a guy with 8 fingers and an eyepatch!

DAVE hope you are beginning to feel better than yesterday. So glad most of us finally know enough to go to ER when we aren't feeling just right. We're too old to wait things out.

Bummer about Buddy leaving "gifts" for you and getting into the dining room table would have been interesting to see on a CAM. I still think you should POP for one of those in your house and see just what goes on when you're gone! LOL

Pat: What a LONG day to pick up those Peanuts. YIKES. And the fact you had to buy 50#'s. Good thing L&R are coming over. But odds are they don't like peanuts to begin with! :)
You make sure you're not over-doing things these next few days. We don't need you to go to ER too.

KAREN: I feel bad for Sparkplug. He must wonder what the heck is going on lately. Hope he settles down and doesn't give you too much trouble. Just be careful he doesn't nip you! Have fun at your get-together.

I made my Special BAKED BEANS and will be bringing those and some cookies to the Anderson lake cottage tomorrow. Ashley and Eric won't be there this year. Ash is going to a Detroit Tigers Baseball game downtown and Eric is at a Lake cottage further up North with friends. Can't blame them. Lately it's just a bunch of older folks and there's just so much you can do to entertain yourself besides going into the water.

Our Mark finally got in to see his Orthopedic surgeon yesterday! Halleluiah. He is now waiting to get listed for surgery by the end of this month. Sure wish it was SOONER for his sake. I told him to keep calling every other day to see if they have a cancellation.

Somebody posted. I need to save this and see if it's
LEE.

And it was LEE! Hope BEAR makes it through the next few days. Those darn M80's should be BANNED from ever coming into the USA or CANADA. I was opening our back screen to the deck last night and one of them went off close by and I not only jumped, but let out a scream. It was SO LOUD.

BILL/RITA: Are you still OKAY over your way. Stop by and let us know how things are going. And you said something about posting pictures. You must know how much we love pictures in this group!

Okay gang.......I'm off of this computer for awhile. Need to throw in a load of laundry and get myself a fresh cup of coffee.

Be safe and I'll be back later.

I hate when I get "TIMED-OUT" when I'm adding to my posts.

Lee: I didn't realize you had to wear a heart monitor. What's all that about? Part of that Rehab program? I didn't think you were allowed to remove those things once they put them on you. Hope each day you are getting stronger. The walks sure have to be helping. Not to mention doing the front lawn. Keep up the good work. Don't forget the H2o. It's a good thing.

Talked to Wendy a little bit ago to see how she was doing & to let her know Sparkplug is safely tucked away in my garage. She is wanting to start for home tomorrow, but they haven't finalized the funeral arrangements yet. Her nephew who lives in Ohio will ride back with her to bring Lanny's car home & pick up hers in Jacksonville & then fly home... she was just so worried about getting his car back home, so this will solve that & she doesn't have to come alone. So far SP is being really good...he barks if there is anyone outside...but other than that he is pretty quiet...even when he can hear me in the kitchen he doesn't make a fuss...
Lee, I forgot to comment on your hydro bill snafu....I'll gladly send you my account # if you want to pay my elec. bill for the next 6 mos. or so...

Time for a short break. I got the potato and macaroni salads all finished. Instead of using elbow macaroni this time I used cavatappi and put tuna into it. If I must say so myself, that is one might fine salad. I couldn't stop eating it once it was finished! I also wrapped up Jennifer's birthday presents and wrote out her card. Nothing like waiting until practically the last minute, right?
Now I still have the fiddling type stuff to do like make onion dip, NY Italian onion sauce, chop up peppers & onions while the sausage parboils and cut up some veggies for a mini salad tray. I won't do the charcuterie board until tomorrow before anyone gets here.

Kathie - I have to go back and review how to make a salami rose to put on the charcuterie board. I want to make sure I do it right and it comes out pretty.

Karen - Good idea keeping Wendy's dog in a confined area. Nice that Wendy will have someone making the drive with her back to Jacksonville. When are they coming back? They definitely do not want to be traveling on Monday, if the traffic yesterday at the start of the holiday was so bad. It's going to be just as bad with everyone going back home on Monday.

OK break time is over. Time to get back to work!! :)

Finally finished with everything planned for today. Now it's time to treat myself to a glass of wine and relax before we heat up leftover veal parm and spaghetti. Then we will have some room in the fridge once those dishes are out of there. I am so glad in a way that today has been a rainy crappy day. I didn't get tempted to just spend time outside and not get all these little things finished.

Kathie - The cookies look delicious!

I have to hope this will post now, so I'm out of here. :)

Happy 4th of July. And yes Lee, your calendar also has a 4th on it, so go have a BBQ.

One lousy day to work at an Emergency room or be a fire-fighter.

They've been blowing off fireworks around here for the last couple of weeks. Today they are going to be in high gear and especially tonight. Plus it'll be another week or two for all that racket to taper off.

I always think of your pooch that can't even stand lightening or thunder, Lee. So far, loud noises doesn't seem to phase Buddy by any of it. Fuzzbutt and Big-Foot wasn't bothered either.

Boy KC, Wendy is sure on a bad luck streak. So pleased to hear that she's getting help returning vehicles back to where they should be. Happy also to hear that Sparkplug is calming down and settling in.

Good looking cookies K2. My guess is chocolate with powdered sugar on top. Correct? That'll be great if Mark can get his surgery out of the way by the end of the month. And what makes your "special baked beans" so special?

After chowing down so much on your macaroni salad yesterday BB, I bet you won't touch it today. In answer to your question; We discussed my recent procedures at the ER, but it was decided that it's cause was bronchitis. But who knows, maybe I picked it up during one of those procedures.

We, and especially me, don't plan on doing much of anything today. My drugs are slowly making me feel better, and I'm not going to screw that up. The only thing I did yesterday was put out a few flags around our posies by the street last night. But even that got me a bit out of breath. My only plan for today is plugging my car's battery up to the charger. When I went to get my prescriptions filled yesterday it was dead. I don't think I've driven that car for a month, and last week they even had a news story on the TV saying that the extreme heat we'd been having could bake and drain a car's battery if it sets out in the sun and wasn't driven once in a while.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!! We may actually get lucky today, Karen, and not have a totally soggy day. I sure hope so, especially with TS Elsa looking to cross the state of Florida. Once again, we're in the cone.

Kathie -Good to hear that Mark's surgery is scheduled for later in the month. The light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully.
I too want to know what's so special about you baked beans? I'm taking the easy way out on the baked beans and am letting Jimmy make them. He was smoking a loin of pork yesterday to shred into the beans and they are soooo good.

Dave - Glad the doctor ruled out your procedures as the cause of your shortness of breath and narrowed it down to good old bronchitis. Continue to feel better each day and for God's sake, take it easy and relax.

Almost time for me to start getting stuff organized around here. The gang may start rolling in anytime after 11 and I need to have lots of goodies available to hold them over until the main food later in the afternoon. Some of the goodies, like the cheeses and dips, taste and spread better when they are closer to room temperature.

But before any of that, I really need a cup of coffee to jumpstart my heart and something to take meds with. Then it will be time to get to work.

A few booms here last night, but definitely on the quiet side up to this point. Tonight will be the noisy one that they will all complain about in the morning. If it stays dry, many go to the fireworks display over at the lakefront in Kissimmee and then come home and light their fireworks. That can get rather late.

Have a wonderful day everyone and don't forget why today is so important to us all. Now let's just keep it that way!! :) :emoticon 0137 clapping: :emoticon 0115 inlove:

Quick good morning from Soggy Belleview...it rained off & on most of the night...and some this morning....radar shows it's "supposed" to clear up later this afternoon...but it's been wrong before!

Kathie, your cookies looked delish....do they travel well...as by the US postal service? Asking for a friend... :)
Good to hear Mark's surgery got moved up a bit...my friend Grant is having back problems also...but his surgery isn't going to be till Oct. which I think is crazy...they are sending him to "pain management" until then....yeah...get him hooked on drugs instead of just doing the d@mn surgery!

Dave, yep...just keep milling slowly & smartly around for another week or to & let those Meds do the full job...

Pat, I'm sure your family will do their very best to demolish the spread you put out for them! I did macaroni salad yesterday too...but mine didn't come out as good as I had hoped...I don't make it that often & now I remember why...

Lee, Happy 4th of July to our favorite honorary US citizen....that is some cool weather you all were having yesterday!
Fireworks were actually not that bad here last night...started around 9 and by 11 all was quiet...I'm sure tonite will no be as calm....SP did fairly well...the fireworks did not seem to bother him at all...but at about 11 or so last night he was scratching & whining at the door coming into the house...I fussed at him to be quiet...and then took him out for one last potty...he settled down after that & didn't make a peep till around 6 this morning...he did tear the heck out of the molding by the garage door...but I can sand that down, fill in a little putty & paint it...I'd rather that be dug up than my door...
And...the rain is coming down in buckets again here...so much for clearing up...I did move my grill onto the back porch...I am doing the burgers here to take over to Jane's...Enjoy your 4th everyone and remember those who made our celebrations possible!

Got a message from Missy a little while ago that they will be digging a hole in our yard to bury her old (16) toy poodle mix who passed away during the night on his birthday. His name? FIRECRACKER!!! How appropriate for a FIRECRACKER to pass on the 4th of July?

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY AMERICA!

Lee: Hope you celebrate a little too. After all you are 1/2 American. LOL I bet it was really nice by the water THIS MORNING. I actually sat out on the deck and had my English muffin and coffee this morning. Got to see the Oriole and a baby at the feeder 2 times. Sure made my day.

Karen: Glad that Sparkplug didn't eat up too much of your garage. Is it too hot in that garage for him? Just wondering.
Have fun at your BBQ.

PAT: Hope the Salami Roses turn out good for you. I saw you got the video I sent you. Try and DELIGATE work today so you don't end up in ER later.

DAVE: Good that you're taking it slow and easy for a few days. Funny how a car can lose it's battery power from sitting out in the hot heat. You need to ride that baby around the block every other day. And don't forget to run the A/C if you have it in that car so the seals don't DRY UP.

:love06:
I'm off to wash my hair and find some lightweight shorts and a top to wear to the cottage. It's going to be HOT there. NO A/C except in the bedrooms there. And you just can't be sitting around in the bedroom at a BBQ! LOL The breeze from the water should help.

Have a safe and fun day and stop and give thanks to all those who made this day possible and aren't with us. :love06:

Bill/Rita: Hope you have a good day too. Maybe, just maybe you'll stop by and chat with us. :emoticon 0117 talking:

Baked Beans! I double and sometimes triple this recipe. Much better if made 2-3 days before the event so all flavors blend. Good hot or at ROOM TEMP.

Enjoy!
NOTE: I put the bacon on a rack with a cookie sheet under it and out in the OVEN to get crispy. Then I chop it up with a sharp knife.
You can make these spicy if you want to.

Good afternoon friends and a very happy July 4th to you all.
Sorry to hear that Firecracker crossed The Bridge. They always leave a big hole in your heart.
Dave, you must be a mind reader! How did you know our Canadian calendar had a July 4th too?
Speaking of which we are headed over to friends shortly for a BBQ.
I’ll try to pop back later depending on when we get home. With temps feeling like 100F after such a nice cool day yesterday I can’t imagine we’ll want to be outdoors for too long. Especially me!
I did want to wish you all a fun and safe day no matter how you celebrate The 4th!
