Happy Juneteenth!

We have to admit that this new Federal holiday is still a head-scratcher for most people.

Simply it's a day to celebrate the freedom of slaves in Texas in the late 18 hundreds. Which was TWO years after the Emancipation Proclamation was made law.

Nobody texted the Texan slaves back then???

Hope all you Dads had a good Father's Day. I did. Warm and sunny. And my healthy eating lasted all the way till noon, when my Arizona daughter had a BBQ lunch delivered. It was so good I could almost feel my arteries clogging up.

So that's why you like that church KC......Going to church while also getting your aerobics in from all the standing up and sitting down.

All the trash cans are out by the street this morning, as if it's a normal Monday. Like me, they don't know if the trash companies are giving their employees the day off for Juneteenth.

Not quite sure where yesterday went.
It ended with pizza and wine with the gang plus Lisa and Shiraz. Lisa brought (spoiler alert Kathie) salted caramel cookies from Culbert’s in Goderich.
Ava and I have been on our early morning walk.
Today the guys are meeting at 7:30 for coffee and then finishing the pool deck railing before it gets too hot. Then Lisa has her final walk through this afternoon.
I’m gonna get my fruit, granola and yogurt. You all have a spectacular day!

Nice that this is a National Holiday. Soon we will have to get more of these types of Federal Holidays if DeSantis makes it to DC! He's taken so many of Florida's freedoms away I can just imagine what he'd do if he made it to DC! Lord help us.

We had a great Father's Day at Jill & Mark's house and threw in a early celebration of Art's Birthday. We had pizza, corn on the cob, antipasto salad. Jill made Strawberry shortcake from her fresh picked strawberries and I made a cake for the Birthday Boy. Way too much food.
Manny entertained us by running after tennis balls we threw out for him. All in all a great day.

Dave: Nice gift as usual from the Arizona daughter. YUM.

Lee: Do I have the ladies mixed up that have moved into your area? I thought LINDA was the widow that bought the home sight unseen and had the O.G.C. guys build the shed?
WHO IS
LISA that is going through a final inspection? Where did I go wrong here????
Nice to hear that you had Salted Carmel Cookies from Culberts. WOW...nice treat. Not sure just when we're going to make it to Culberts. It was too cold a few weeks ago to go there and now we have to wait until Art's yearly physical is done and over with some time after next week. Always Something!

It is going to be up in the 80's all week. Finally some warmed around here.

Karen: You'd fit right in at our church. We do a LOT of Standing and Sitting during the service. Since I'm up in the choir loft ..... we just STAND through the entire service. No pews up there. We did purchase some nice padded folding chairs a few years back and they seem to be used more and more often as we get older. :emoticon 0122 itwasntme:

Art has a Eye check-up this morning and then the day is free for yard work. He's bound and determined to get that grass project worked on and done with.

I hope you all have a wonderful day. I'm off to get a coffee before I drive the man to the Eye Doctor Appt. He'll get those nasty "drops" and can't drive himself back home.

Later gang.

Good morning. No plans for me today. it does feel a bit strange to not have any PT.

Weather will be hot and supposedly no rain until this evening.

All have a great day.

Good morning and Happy Juneteenth! Garbage collection went off as planned today. At least they didn't wake me up for a change.

We had a nice day yesterday. Jimmy did the seafood boil and we were able to eat outside with very comfortable temps at dinner time. Brian gave Bert a call in the evening after everyone had left and as usual, there was disagreement about politics. I don't know where we got that kid from!! Laurie was sick yesterday, so she didn't call. She plans to call Bert today. Gary is coming over this evening, as he couldn't make it yesterday. With M&J coming back for dinner, we are having an extended Father's Day celebration!

PT is due almost any minute now. That should keep Bert hopping for a while! He was still hurting from one of the new exercises last Friday. It used muscles he hasn't been using recently. Hopefully, it will feel better after today's session.

Bert was talking to Jeff the other day. That in itself is rare. Usually it's just Joanne & I talking. During their conversation, Jeff commented that he hopes we all get to see each other again before one of us dies! WOW!!! It would be so much easier if they flew down here on a 2 hour flight as opposed to us driving for 10 hours each way, having to stay at a hotel at the halfway point and then having to stay at a hotel while we are up there for a few nights. I just don't want to have to make a trip like that anymore. If they came down here, we have a guest bedroom and bathroom for them and there would be no additional expenses, unless we were to go out to eat.

Here comes the PT guy. Better get off here to watch what he has Bert doing. I know it will include using the cane instead of the walker.

Have a wonderful day, gang!

And with that, our work here is done. Originally the plan was to put a cap on top of the rail but Gail decided she didn’t want one so we are done. The lumber (sitting on the deck) now has to go back to Home Depot.
Ya Kathie, I guess I should print a program of names and players. Lisa is the lady who was widowed at a very young age. Again, damned cancer. She was a friend and neighbour in Ayr and decided, along with her dog Shiraz, to follow the rest of the “Grey Ladies“ to The Burg. Linda is another Greyhound friend who has lived here for a while. It was her who we built the shed for.
Anyway, we finished up pretty quick so I came home and took Ava to her beloved Navy Yard.
Too funny. One of the group done with PT and another has the PT guy arriving.
Juneteenth. You know what we call this day in Canada? Monday.
Stuff to do.
Hi to the rest and everyone have a good day.

Father's Day was wonderful and almost all members of the clan gathered at a restaurant that we hadn't visited for several years. Everything, from the extensive menu to the service, made we wonder why we hadn't been there for such a long time. It isn't far from where all of us live so I suspect that it will figure prominently in our dining out suggestions in the future. I ended up with gift cards for my favorite breakfast place. Only problem will be my getting up early enough to get there before it is lunchtime, not breakfast time. The urge to stay snuggled in bed is sometimes just too strong, especially if there is nothing special on the calendar for the day. Today is just such a day.
The Red Sox season has pretty much been a disappointment, but this weekend they sort of redeemed themselves by sweeping the Damn Yankees in three straight games. Rainy weather caused Saturday's game to be cancelled and resulted in yesterday's double header.

The O.G.C. gang sure did a "bang-up" job on that railing. WOW. Looking fantastic! Kudo's to the gang.
Thanks for the update on the "ladies" moving around. I thought I had "Linda" right as the
She-Shed lady. Whew. I've been known to get things mixed up. Ha Ha. :emoticon 0140 rofl:

As I was dropping off Art at the Eye Dr's we saw a very Large Coyote walking through the parking lot like he didn't have a care in the world. WOW! I saw one in our sub years ago, but nothing lately.
coyote.jpg

Paid some bills online and called in a refill for Art's eye drops. The Dr still isn't ready to use Laser on the aneurism in Art's eye. Going to do a Blood Flow test in 6 weeks to see if the aneurism is affecting the flow. Always something. Good thing Art is a patient person and puts up with all these tests regarding his eye.

I bought 6 Impatient plants, planted them and added Miracle Grow fertilizer to all the other plants around the house. It's getting HOT outside (finally) and I'm glad I got things done when I did.
I'm off to bake some Pecan/Berry/Bourbon Biscotti's to hand out to the bikers tomorrow at the park when they celebrate Art's Birthday. This group does a bang up job celebrating each members Birthday. Art gets to choose his ride route and led it tomorrow. Ha Ha.

Bill: If you miss breakfast just go to the place for lunch. Nobody will know the difference! Glad you had a good day with your family.

PAT: Hope Bert's Physical therapy goes well. I see you're NOT slowing down any with the feeding of the "troops". Just make sure Bert isn't lifting or moving around too much when he's helping you in the kitchen. He really needs to take it easy and let that new hip heal.

Okay off to the kitchen. By the way, my Kitchen TV is really quite the improvement with such a clear bigger picture. Best $20 bucks I've spent in a long time.

PAT: That's good to know. Sounds like a fun evening for all. Enjoy!

I too dinner over to my friend Marie that lives "up 24 Mile Rd" tonight. She's been having issues with her shoulder and doing physical therapy and I wanted to give her a break from cooking for her and George. They were both very grateful. Roll-up Lasagna, with fresh antipasto salad and my special dressing and rolls. I also threw in a bag of Chips from where Jill works! :clap002:

Tigers were losing AGAIN and I gave up on them in hopes they might turn it around.

It's been a long day. You all SLEEP GOOD TONIGHT.

Since tomorrow is officially the first day of summer, it's up to you to get all those spring projects completed today.
1f628.png
Or just put them on next spring's to-do list.

Don't feel bad K2 about getting people's names all mixed up. I don't remember the names of all the Bunnies friends and relatives either. That would be so cool to see a coyote. I've never seen one in real life.

Kathi whipped up a whole bunch of ginger-snap cookies yesterday. But hers don't snap. They're chewy, the way I like them.

Our garbage got picked up too, as well as our lawn guy doing his thing on Juneteenth.

That pool deck and railing look great Lee. Another excellent job you Old Guys did. I too want to know what your next project is.

BB; It is amazing how these physical therapists can find the muscles that we rarely use.

Glad you REdiscovered that excellent restaurant, Bill. Bet you won't wait years to go back to it next time.

An early start for Kathi this morning. She's got to take one of the granddaughter to band practice at 8:30.

Good morning. Today I plan on bagging up some clothes to give to Salvation Army, also shoes. I have decided that tonight for dinner I will fix goulash, had to check that I have enough cans of tomatoes and mushrooms, have everything else. Don't have canned tomato sauce but do have a few types of spaghetti sauce so will use one jar of one of them.

I have gotten hooked on watching "My Unorthodox Life" I do get mad at Julia at times but really enjoy the show. I do understand that very few people who leave the Orthodox Life end up like Julia but it is her life. Just watched the last episode. I do hope they have more.

All have a great day.

Good morning! Another day of the same old same old weather wise, visitor wise and family dinner wise, which I don't have to cook!

Kathie - Great pictures of Art & the biker gang. You definitely were very ambitious to be out and about so early delivering biscotti. Nice that you brought food to your friends too. I'm sure they really appreciated it.

Dave - I don't know what new muscles the therapist is making Bert use, but he is doing great. Yesterday the therapist had him walk around outside using only the cane. Tomorrow he plans to have Bert walk to the mailbox using only the cane. Bert's going crazy not being able to drive the car. He has to wait and see what the doctor says when he goes in 9 days. It's driving him nuts that he can't drive around the community to see what's going on.

Lee - You and the rest of the old guys did an excellent joy in that fence around the pool. Now, on to the next project ... By the way, did you ever get your basement all organized the way you want it? I don't remember seeing any pictures of the finished product.

Bill - Sounds like you had a great Father's Day with you gang. Nice that you got gift cards to your favorite breakfast place. Bert didn't get anything! :( He told the kids long ago not to get him anything, so the listen to him and save $$$!

Nancy - Is that program you were watching similar to the one about the Duggar family and the horrible things they've done and how they raised their children? I watched that with Missy when Bert was in the hospital. Bunch of sickos, for sure.

Nurse will be coming soon to check Bert out. This will be a new nurse who has just been assigned to this area. In the meantime, Bert has still been having some male problems. Got a call from our primary's office this morning. Doctor is recommending that Bert go back to the ER and have a bladder scan. Not sure that's the right approach at this point. Unfortunately, he can't get in to the urologist's office until July 21st and his problem is too painful to wait that long.

The gang will be back tonight to consume more leftovers. Hopefully, that will be the end of them. I have to make more cucumber salad, as they ate almost all of it last night. Might have to make chicken pot pie for the gang one night this week. That's an easy one where I just mix everything together, heat it, put it in the pan and top it with Stove Top stuffings. Then pop it in the oven for a half hour. Also make french fries to go with it. Family tradition, so I can't change that!!

Time to do a few things before the nurse gets here, so I better run. have a super Taco Tuesday, everyone!!

Pat, no the family in My Unorthodox Life is no where near like the Duggars. While Julia and 3 of her 4 kids have left the Orthodox life she really tries hard to give them good advise as to what they want to do with their life, but does not tell them you will do this or that. The youngest son is only 15 so he lives part time with her and part time with his Dad. When the second season ends he wants to be a Rabbi which Julia says is fine but she will not allow him to go to a school that only teaches Orthodox Jewish life both Julia and his Dad agree he needs to keep going to the school he is going to because they do teach Judaism and secular things. His Dad has left the Ultra Orthodox group for a more normal Judaism. And Julia and him get along very well.

I do believe the Duggars are part of a cult.

Why do I think that I am glad that I am not familiar with either of the TV shows that Pat and Nancy have been discussing?
Hope everyone had a good Juneteenth. For us it was pretty much a typical day with nothing except some grocery shopping and
relaxing. Tonight we once again try to improve our position in the cribbage competition.
Unseasonably chilly here for June, but temps in the 80's are forecast for the coming weekend.

Glad to hear that Bert's PT seems to be working well, but hope that the cause of his other problem can be diagnosed quickly and dealt with.

Only 247 days until our Disney Princess 5K. I know that because we registered this morning.
How the heck is everyone doing?
Bill, I know not of these shows of which Pat and Nancy speak either. So you’re not alone. Our temps went from below seasonal to above seasonal and didn’t stop at seasonable. We no longer seem to get spring or fall.
Do you invite ghosts for dinner when you have “ghoul”ash Nancy.
I have bright (I hope) flush mount ceiling lights coming tomorrow for the basement Pat. Then it will be done. It does look pretty darned good. Poor Bert! I hope it’s nothing serious.
I love the name on Art’s cycling jersey Kathie. Stoney Creek Gravel Grinders. With all the gears on bikes now I’d be calling them the SC Gear Grinders! Does the jersey have thos pockets on the back to hold your delicious biscotti?
Summer tomorrow Dave?
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b50HxIvBTfo

Why yes Willie, it is funny how time slips away. We have coyotes in the woods nearby. You can hear them howling some nights. The odd one wanders into the subdivision. That’s why Ava and I are so danged vigilant on our 5:30 a.m. walks!
Up next for The OGC’s? I think we have a small drywall job for Lisa once she moves in. In the fall I suspect we’ll start on Jim and Gail’s basement. We have to keep up with the standards Karen sets when it comes to taking care of family and friends.
Listen. Did anyone else hear that? Red wine is calling Lu-Ann and I. And it would be impolite to not answer…
Enjoy your day.
