6 Awesome Things To Love Aboard Norwegian Spirit

Norwegian Cruise Line has a long history of providing an incredible cruise experience. Established in 1966, they may have just perfected it. We recently returned from a cruise to Alaska aboard this beautiful ship after a week of being spoiled by her crew and staff.

Things To Love Aboard Norwegian Spirit

Things To Love Aboard Norwegian Spirit
6 Awesome Things To Love Aboard Norwegian Spirit 45

The Norwegian Spirit was built in 1998 and refurbished in 2019. She is 75,904 gross tons and has a passenger capacity of only 2,018. The ship has no kid’s areas and is focused on an elevated experience focused primarily on Adult cruisers.

Our cruise gave me an up-close look as some of the amazing features and amenities guests can expect when taking a cruise aboard this beautiful $100 million dollar refurbished ship. I wanted to share six awesome things to love aboard Norwegian Spirit.

Balcony Stateroom

We really enjoyed the comfort and quality of the our stateroom aboard the Norwegian Spirit. The refurbished balcony stateroom assigned to us was like new. It has USB ports at the desk and below both reading lamps on each side of the bed. It also had plenty of storage and a nice sized flat screen TV. The desk area was functional and also comfortable for me to get some work done in during our trip.

The bathroom was very nice and functional. The shower was very spacious and had really nice water pressure (something I enjoy). I loved it’s solid door, it was almost like being at home. The toilet was also nicely placed and we enjoyed this bathroom for it’s thoughtful design.

The best part of our stateroom was the nice-sized balcony that allowed us to soak up the Sun and take in the fantastic views while sailing away from Vancouver to begin our Alaskan cruise or to enjoy the views while cruising. Either way, we highly recommend a balcony stateroom aboard this ship. I feel it helps you get closer to the different places, and easily see the changing views as you travel—a must during an Alaskan cruise.

Onda by Scarpetta

We really enjoyed our dinner at specialty restaurant Onda by Scarpetta. This was our first time experiencing this restaurant aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship. Everything was very fresh paired with the wonderful service.

I love a good Pizza and the Margherita pizza we sampled before dinner was perfect along with the incredible handcrafted Pasta. The restaurant get it’s name Onda, or “wave” in Italian, brings the charm and effortless elegance of its critically acclaimed sister restaurant, Scarpetta, to sea.

During our visit and I ordered the MEZZELUNE which are hand made pasta filled with ricotta, spinach accompanied by preserved truffle, butter and sage. I would certainly order this again and hope you will to when you visit this incredible restaurant. Until then be sure to look at the menu, click here.

Be prepared to experience a modern Italian culinary experience from Scarpetta’s signature pastas like the famous Spaghetti Tomato & Basil to unique and mouthwatering seafood creations. Be sure to leave room for dessert. Don’t forget you can share. Just be sure to make reservations at the guest services desk, as reservations go quickly for this very popular restaurant.

Stardust Theatre & Shows

The Stardust Theatre was one of the most unique theatre’s I’ve seen at sea. Why? It’s located in the aft of the ship.

Yes, The Norwegian Spirit’s main theatre’s is located in the rear of the ship. This two story theatre features a European opera style auditorium, with a lovely side balcony-like seating.

I was thoroughly impressed with the Norwegian production shows onboard and highly recommend you not miss, the show Elements, World Beat and Blazing Boots (PG-13).

Teppanyaki

If you like garlic fried rice, sizzling meat or vegetables with a show, this is the right place. We really enjoy Japanese Steak Houses’ and Teppanyaki cooking on land and I can attest that the Teppanyaki aboard the Norwegian Spirit did not disappoint.

The chef was very entertaining and the food was magnificent. Just be warned, this specialty restaurant is very popular so be sure to make reservations shortly after boarding. If full you can also check regularly for any cancelations.

The Social Comedy Club

If you don’t look closely, you might miss this wonderful venue and lounge. The Social Comedy Club aboard the Norwegian Spirit is tucked away to the rear of the impressive Casino area. So be sure to check your deck plan to navigate to this area.

It’s beautiful styling and inviting colors really make this is wonderful place to take in a show or meet friends for drinks.

During our cruise we enjoyed cocktails here one night and watching a comedy show by the incredible Comedian Scotty Goff. This veteran comedian was actually a public-school teacher before retiring and starting his career. Seeing a comedy show while cruising is something I really enjoy most about cruising. Goff has everyone roaring with laughter durin his performance. It was such a joy to be able to see such a high caliber comedy show during a cruise.

Spice H2O

The Spice H20 area found aboard the Norwegian Spirit an area onboard I really enjoyed. This grand space is a great place to relax and have a drink. It features amazing views of the ships wake and your current surroundings.

It also conveniently located near the buffet and many staterooms. I loved the large pool and hot tub’s, it was perfect. The whole area is inspired by the renowned summer beach parties on the island of Ibiza. This adult-only area has padded lounge chairs and amenities to relax and soak up the Sun.

Today many modern cruise ship design doesn’t include public spaces like this anymore. They are often now used for high-end suites or private areas. Previously grand aft-pool areas like this were found on many cruise ship’s.

This is a real gem in my book and one of the reason’s I’ll look forward to re-booking a cruise aboard the Norwegian Spirit in the future.

Let’s try to keep this amazing ship a secret among us Ok?

6 Awesome Things To Love Aboard Carnival Celebration

Carnival Celebration
Carnival Celebration sailing away from Port Miami

Carnival Cruise Line has been sailing for over 50 Years and knows how to deliver a Fun cruise. So it wasn’t hard to find things we enjoyed onboard the Carnival Celebration during our cruise.

Awesome Things To Love Aboard Carnival Celebration

Carnival Celebration is the sister ship to Mardi Gras. She entered service in 2021 as the first ship in North America to run on an LNG propulsion system. Carnival Corp. pioneered the introduction of LNG fuel in the passenger cruise sector as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and emissions reduction.

Carnival Celebration is the second ship in the Excel Class and is 183,521 gross tons. She features 2687 stateroom with a guest capacity of 5374. She also features six unique Zones that include Celebration Station, The Gateway, Summer Landing, 820 Biscayne, Lido and The Ultimate Playground.

Our cruise gave me an up-close look as some of the amazing features and amenities guests can expect when taking a cruise aboard this beautiful new ship. I wanted to share six awesome things to love aboard Carnival Celebration.

STATEROOM DESIGN

We have often learned from cruising that not all cruise ship staterooms are designed the same. One of the benefits of sailing with Carnival Cruise Line is that after 50yrs of being in the cruise business, they have perfected many details both big and small. We really appreciate Carnival Cruise Line’s attention to detail. Our cabin aboard the Carnival Celebration certainly delivered as our home away from home during our seven night cruise. The ample storage closet and drawer storage made it easy to unpack our items and relax. We know cruising can mean getting changed often as the day brings new adventures from using the pool one moment to fine dining the next.

ChiBang!

This Chinese & Mexican restaurant is quickly becoming a favorite among cruisers for packed with wonderful flavors and quality. We dined here early in our cruise and really enjoyed the many different options. One thing is sure, you won’t leave hungry. Our choices that stood out were the Beef & Broccoli, Pot Stickers and The Super Loaded Nachos. When cruising on Carnival Celebration choosing where to eat may be difficult. However, This is a must do in our book. You can check out the ChiBang! Menu by clicking here.

LOFT 19

During our cruise we were able to access the Loft 19™ area aboard Carnival Celebration. This area offers a retreat-style experience while also having the big-ship amenities that can only be found aboard Carnival Celebration. Access to this area allows you to soak up the sun all day from the comfort of a comfortable lounge chair or Loft 19’s own infinity whirlpool, or opt for private time in the shade by renting a cabana. We enjoyed this area during sunset and had drinks while relaxing in the infinity whirlpool.

Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse

Our visit to Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse aboard Carnival Celebration did not disappoint. My Ribeye steak was perfectly cooked and one of the best steaks I ever had at sea. It was perfectly aged, seasoned, and cooked. I was very impressed, and I think you will be too. I’ve included some photos of my tablemate’s offerings to show you an example of some of the menu offerings. If you are trying to decide what specialty restaurant to visit while onboard, I would be this at the top of your list. You can view the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse menu by clicking here.

BOLT

You know it’s almost mandatory to take a ride on BOLT if you book a cruise on Carnival Celebration. A coaster on a cruise ship, Yes. Fun, Absolutely. Here are some facts. BOLT is an all-electric coaster featuring a two-person car that can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour on the Carnival Celebrations 800-foot track.

It is full of drops, twists and turns 187 feet above the water line. The Carnival Celebration has the second coaster and and it has been awarded by Popular Science with its “Best of What’s New” engineering award in 2021. I know you will have a good time. One word of advice, hang on!

EMERIL’S BISTRO 1397

During your cruise aboard Carnival Celebration, it is a must that you stop and sample some of Emeri’s Bistro 1397. Take a look at the menu offerings which are quite large and the biggest challenge is to time a visit when your actually hungry.

With so many great food options available aboard the Carnival Celebration, this was a our biggest challenge. We made a point of ordering the Beignes $5 (powdered sugar, strawberry sauce, chocolate sauce) twice during our cruise and LOVED them, they were perfect. We saw many people having full meals here and it all looked and smelled amazing. Be sure to check out the Emeril’s Bistro 1397 menu, to view the menu click here.

Italianity, Marine World, Swiss Technicity and Modern Heroes: the four pillars that have long defined Panerai are translated into its first floating boutique, an immersive environment dedicated to the discovery of the Maison’s legendary DNA.

Founded in Florence in 1860 and still profoundly inspired by its origins, Panerai draws from its Italian design inheritance and cultural grounding to infuse both the Brand’s timepieces and store concept. Piaget

Piaget epitomizes daring creativity – a quality that has continued to permeate through the Maison since its beginnings in 1874. From his first workshop in La Côte-aux-Fées, Georges-Edouard Piaget devoted himself to crafting high-precision movements in a feat that formed the very foundations of their pioneering name. In the late 1950s, Piaget unveiled the ultra-thin movements that would later become the Maison’s trademark and the cornerstone of the Altiplano collection. As a true innovator of the watch and jewelry world, Piaget strongly believed in creativity and artistic values. It is within the walls of their “Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire” where master artisans continue to harness rare skills that have been preserved and perfected from generation to generation, transforming gold, stones and precious gems into dazzling works of art. Through its pursuit of masterful craftsmanship, the Maison has created emblems of daring excellence channelled into its collections including Altiplano, Piaget Polo, Limelight Gala, Possession, Piaget Sunlight, Piaget Rose and Extremely Piaget.

The stores will open on board EXPLORA I on July 17,2023, and will be available exclusively to Explora Journeys guests.

Holland America Line Introduces New ‘National Geographic Day Tours’ to Mediterranean Cruises

Holland America Line Mediterranean
Guests on select Holland America Line sailings in the Mediterranean can now book National Geographic tours, which provide an immersive travel experience with local, National Geographic-trained tour guides.

Expanding its reputation for immersive travel experiences, Holland America Line has started operating “National Geographic Day Tours” that allow guests to connect more deeply, and in a more sustainable way, with destinations in the Mediterranean. The exclusive shore excursions were developed with National Geographic, a world leader in geography, cartography and exploration.

National Geographic Day Tours

Beginning this summer, guests sailing on Oosterdam and Nieuw Statendam can participate in National Geographic Day Tours that allow them to discover powerful female figures in Kusadasi, Turkey; experience a day in the life of a marine biologist in Naples, Italy; learn about organic honeybee farms in Rhodes, Greece; and meet local families in Santorini, Greece. Each tour is led by a National Geographic trained guide.

We are continually looking for enriching and transformative experiences for our guests and the new National Geographic Day Tours are not only immersive, but provide exclusive access and hands-on experiences,” said Carole Biencourt, vice president overseeing shore tour experience for Holland America Line. “We are pleased to offer them to guests across our Mediterranean itineraries that visit these ports and will look to expand the program in the near future.”

Guests on select sailings in the Mediterranean can now book National Geographic tours online or through a travel advisor.
