Further details of the special event will be revealed as the ceremony approaches.

“Qatar has taken important steps to position itself as a world class destination for cruise passengers and the naming ceremony of MSC World Europa in Doha is another landmark event as we grow this important tourism sector. MSC World Europa will be the first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessel in MSC Cruises’ fleet and the most environmentally advanced to date. LNG, is one of the world’s cleanest marine fuels available at scale and is set to play a key role in the decarbonization of international shipping. It virtually eliminates local air pollutant emissions like sulphur oxides and reduces nitrogen oxides by up to 85 percent.

LNG also plays a key role in climate change mitigation as it reduces CO2 emissions by 25 percent and is paving the way for the uptake of sustainable non-fossil fuels like green hydrogen. A demonstration fuel cell onboard MSC World Europa will test the efficiency of this technology as a means to produce heat and electricity about 30 percent more efficiently.

MSC World Europa
MSC World Europa will be the company’s most innovative, most environmentally advanced, and most exciting ship to-date.

MSC World Europa will also feature selective catalytic reduction systems, shore power plug-in connectivity to reduce carbon emissions in port, advanced wastewater treatment systems designed in line with the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization, food and waste recycling, an underwater radiated noise management system to help protect marine life, and a comprehensive range of onboard energy efficient equipment to optimize engine use and further reduce emissions.

The Swiss-based line has a long-term goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions for its operations by 2050. This will be achieved by investing and supporting the accelerated development and implementation of innovative, cutting-edge technologies to be deployed across the Company’s fleet of ships.

Carnival Celebration Sea Trials

Carnival Celebration set sail on her first round of sea trials Monday, September 5, from Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, the same shipyard where Celebration’s sister ship, Mardi Gras, was built. Carnival Celebration had a full contingent of officers, technicians and engineers on board to thoroughly test the ship’s technical, mechanical and navigational systems.

“During her sea trials, Carnival Celebration underwent several tests, which are meant to determine the ship’s capability and her performance. We’ve done many maneuvering tests, such as endurance tests, steering tests, speed tests and thrusters tests. The ship performed wonderfully, and shortly, we will get her out and start cruising,” said Capt. Vincenzo Alcaras.

Why You Should Take A Viking Nile River Cruise

Viking Nile River Cruise
A Viking Nile river cruise is a bucket list experience.

Viking is all in on Egypt.

This is one of the world’s most vibrant and exotic destinations, but navigating it can be a little intimidating. A Nile River cruise takes care of a lot of the logistics and allows you to see all the great places that showcase the fascinating 3,000-year-era of Ancient Egypt.

When it comes to Nile River voyages, no cruise line offers more options and a more well-rounded experience than Viking, which just launched its first purpose-built Nile River cruise ship, Viking Osiris.

Viking Nile River Cruise 2024 / 2025

It already had Viking Antares and Viking Ra plying the river for the company’s 12-day “Pharaohs and Pyramids” itinerary. After Viking Osiris, the company plans to launch sister ships Viking Aton (2023), Viking Hathor (August 2024), and Viking Sobek (August 2025).

Cruise Addicts is back from its journey on Viking Osiris and discovered plenty of reasons cruisers will want to take a cruise with Nile River cruise with Viking on any vessel in its growing fleet of riverboats.

A Luxury Viking Nile River Cruise

Viking had the nicest ships on this exotic river, with the refurbished Viking Antares (62 passengers) and Viking Ra (48 passengers). However, the new Viking Osiris is at the next level. The 82-passenger, five-deck river ship is the best on the Nile.

Viking passengers get everything they expect from the brand that thrives on offering a comfortable, reliable, and inclusive travel experience. Viking Osiris features two restaurants, including the popular Aquavit Terrace indoor/outdoor venue. The public spaces are immense and well-lit, with glass everywhere connecting the inside spaces with the beautiful views of the flowing river, its green banks, farming communities, villages, and mountainous Sahara beyond.

Amenities include The Lounge, a huge space with the bar as a centerpiece, where passengers gather each night to enjoy cocktails, piano music, and conversation. The space is also fantastic for sitting to sip coffee, read a book, and soak in the views through the windows. Guides give enrichment chats here, too, and The Lounge features art and photos from the collection of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, the main benefactor to Howard Carter, who discovered King Tut’s tomb a century ago.

In fact, the entire ship has photos from this collection and other subtle design features that pay homage to Egypt while allowing the ship to maintain the elegant Scandinavian feel that Viking cruisers love so much.

There is no gym or spa, but the top Sun Deck has a warm feel with loungers, day beds, and covered areas with sofas, tables, and chairs.

This was our favorite spot to enjoy during sunrise and sunset.

At the back of the ship, off Aquavit Terrace, is a small swimming pool with a deck offering lounge chairs. It’s really an amazing way to spend the day enjoying the sunshine while cruising the Nile.

The Best Guides in Egypt

Viking’s tour directors are Egyptologists, specialists in the history of Ancient Egypt, with a true passion for telling the incredible stories of the era that began more than five thousand years ago and lasted three millennia.

The guides are there from start to finish, meeting you at your pre-cruise hotel in Cairo and taking you out on your daily adventures.

We had two wonderful Egyptologists on our sailing team, Salah Tawfeek and Hanan El Beih. Guides will be assigned to a group for the cruise, and we were blessed to be with Hanan, who took great care to ensure we were well-informed and comfortable every step of the way. It was well over 105 degrees each day as we visited Egypt in mid-August, and Hanan always ensured that we could find shade at the sites and took frequent sips of water to stay hydrated.

More than that, she displayed an incredible knowledge and passion for Egypt, and that made it a lot of fun for our group.

Delicious Food

Chefs on Viking Osiris serve a nice mix of Egyptian cuisine, like beef kofte and lamb, seafood preparations, and kebabs featuring traditional sauces and bread accompaniments. Viking includes all meals onboard, and you can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner at either The Restaurant or in a more casual setting on the Aquavit Terrace on the Viking River ships in Egypt.

We also couldn’t resist the plentiful pastries and muffins put out each morning at the coffee station in the lobby. Fresh chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookies are available later in the day.

Pre-Cruise Hotel and Touring

Viking uses the 5-Star Nile Ritz-Carlton Hotel for its pre-cruise accommodations in Cairo. The Egypt Nile River cruise program features three nights in this hotel, which has a spa, pool, views of the river, top-notch restaurants and bars, and a rooftop nightclub. The Nile Ritz-Carlton sits right next to the Egyptian Museum, and a visit to this attraction, as well as tours to Giza to see the Great Pyramids and Sphinx complex, is included in your activities during your time in the Egyptian capital.

The Included Excursions

You won’t miss anything on your bucket list for Egypt when you take a Viking Nile cruise. The “Pharaohs and Pyramids” itinerary includes two full days in Cairo to see the pyramids, including Sakkara, museums and mosques. You’ll also get a chance to ride a camel around the Great Pyramid complex.

Plus, you get free time to explore a souk or try a restaurant, coffee house or some shopping

Destinations include Luxor to see the Temples of Luxor and Karnak; this also is where you will cross the Nile to see the Valley of the Kings, including King Tut’s tomb. At Quena, you’ll visit the stunningly well-preserved Temple of Dendera.

At Esna, you will see the ancient red sandstone Temple of Khnum or wander the village and drop in on the lively markets for shopping. Once you reach Aswan, you will marvel at the town that sits at the High Dam, an engineering feat that created Lake Nasser, controls the flow of the Nile, and protects the rich valley. There is time here to visit markets and sail on a traditional wooden felucca boat.

You’re in Aswan for two days, so you can also explore Kom Ombo Temple or a Nubian Village.

In Edfu, you’ll have an exhilarating ride through the streets on a horse-drawn carriage (caleche) to get to Edfu Temple.

Extra-Special Adventures

Viking offers fantastic optional excursions (added cost) to level up your experience in Egypt.

You can go out for the Khan El-Khalili Market visit and traditional dinner when in Cairo, or get up for the magnificent early morning hot air balloon ride at sunrise to soar above the Valley of the Kings when you’re in Luxor.

A visit to the breathtaking Abu Simbel Temples when your ship is in Aswan is worth the price. The temples went up in the 13th century B.C. and were unearthed in the early 19th century. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site, relocated from its original location in 1968 when the Aswan Dam was built. Two massive statues of Ramses II dominate the facade of the Great Temple, and impressive bas-relief sculptures are inside the structure.

You might also pick the night-time “Temples of Philae Sound & Light” show in Aswan.

A Hassle-Free Vacation

Viking cruises in Egypt include all meals on the ship and during some tours; airport and hotel transfers, onboard WiFi; and wine, beer and soft drinks during lunches and dinner onboard the ship. Cruisers can enjoy these perks without feeling like they are being nickel-and-dimed with added costs.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises® Celebrates Largest Booking Day in Company’s History for Third Year in a Row

Regent Seven Seas Cruises, the world’s leading luxury cruise line, has once again topped its own single-day largest booking day record with the launch of its 2024-2025 Voyage Collection as sales commenced on August 24, 2022.

Demonstrating the continued and growing appetite of luxury travelers for the Unrivaled Experience that Regent offers, the cruise line beat its previous largest booking day of August 18, 2021, when it launched its 2023-2024 Voyage Collection.

Seven Seas Splendor's 2024 Lisbon to Cape Town 24-night sailing attracted more reservations than any other.
Seven Seas Splendor’s 2024 Lisbon to Cape Town 24-night sailing attracted more reservations than any other.

“This is an incredible achievement and is testament to the hard-working Regent teams across both our ships and shore-side offices around the globe. We thank our valued Travel Advisors we partner with and our loyal guests for their passion for luxury travel,” said Jason Montague, president, and chief executive officer of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “This year’s voyage collection was highly appealing with more variety featuring over 160 new port-intensive itineraries that discover every part of the globe, including on board our newest ship Seven Seas Grandeur® once she joins The World’s Most Luxurious Fleet in 2023.”

The Largest Booking Day

Travel trends identified that guests are, like the previous year’s launch day, most keen to book exotic destinations with the desire to travel longer with sailings including destinations in Africa, Asia, and South America making up approximately 70% of the top 10 itineraries reserved.

The $11,000 a Night Cruise Cabin: It's the Regent Suite on Regent Seven Seas Splendor
The dining room in the Regent Suite on Regent Seven Seas Splendor leads right into the stateroom’s observation lounge overlooking the front of the ship from Deck 14.

There was also a strong demand for the line’s distinctive suites, as well as the palatial, 4,443 square feet Regent Suite. These trends illustrate that travelers are putting more value on their time and experiences and are willing to spend more to explore the world in luxury, enjoying the highest possible standards of service in lavishly designed restaurants, lounges, and suites.

Booking data also revealed that there was an increase of reservations made by Travel Partners compared to the previous year’s 2023-2024 Voyage Collection launch. Additionally, the cruise line saw a large upsurge of sales made on the day by guests who were already sailing the five-ship fleet.

The feat is the company’s eighth record-breaking launch since 2019 where it achieved its then largest World Cruise launch day. Regent has subsequently attained three more World Cruise launch day records through May 2022 when Regent’s 2025 World Cruise was unveiled in June 2022, fully reserved before officially opening for bookings. The second launch day record of 2022 occurred when Regent launched its 2024-2025 Grand Voyage Collection in July. In addition, the cruise line has broken its own single biggest booking days each year since 2020 with successive Voyage Collection launches.

Appetite for Luxury Travel to the Exotic and Unfamiliar

With 7 of the 10 most popular itineraries booked on the 2024-2025 Voyage Collection launch day including ports in Africa, Asia, and South America, it is clear that luxury travelers are keen to enjoy new experiences in unfamiliar and exotic locales, for extended periods of time.

No better was this illustrated than by Seven Seas Splendor’s® 2024 Lisbon to Cape Town 24-night sailing. Hugging Africa’s West Coast with visits to Dakar, Senegal; Banjul, Gambia; and Abidjan, Ivory Coast; the itinerary attracted more reservations than any other. A similar Barcelona to Cape Town 25-night sailing on board Seven Seas Voyager® also made the top 10 voyages.

Seven Seas Grandeur the most highly anticipated ship to be launched in 2023, had a strong launch day with 3 sailings in the top 10, which includes a 2024 Barcelona to New York 16-night transatlantic as the third most booked sailing. Sister ship to hugely successful Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Explorer®, Seven Seas Grandeur will be the next pinnacle in luxury cruising exemplifying Regent’s heritage of perfection with unrivaled space, unparalleled service, exceptional cuisine, and transformative experiences.

Of the top ten voyages booked on the day, no single voyage had a duration lower than 16 nights, with the longest being 25 nights and entry-level prices for the line’s spacious veranda and deluxe veranda suites ranged from $9,999 per guest and $21,199 per guest.

Other notable destinations featured in the top 10 sailings booked on the record launch day were the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and South America sailings featuring the Amazon River.

The most spent on a single reservation overall (inside or outside of the top 10 voyages) was close to $275,000 for a Grand Suite on board Seven Seas Mariner®.

Carnival Unveils New Cocktails for Carnival Celebration

For all the many toast-worthy moments to come on board Carnival Celebration, set to debut at PortMiami in November, Carnival Cruise Line is giving a glimpse at some of the special cocktails created to flavor future vacations on board its next new ship with an homage to the cruise line’s hometown homeport. (Watch video here.)

Carnival Celebration

Carnival Celebration’s homecoming this fall will continue to mark Carnival’s 50th birthday in PortMiami, where the Fun Ships first started sailing, and so it’s fitting the ship will carry themes of its hometown homeport not just through onboard architectural styling, but also in its food and beverage offerings – including, of course, its cocktails. Bar 820 will feature several Miami-inspired tropical martinis and other drinks that will infuse an essence of South Florida throughout each sailing and represent a mixture of local partnerships on board.

“Miami is a rich source of inspiration for drinks, and we tapped into the city’s flavors well with what we’ve developed for Bar 820. Many of the drinks we’ll serve on this ship are the product of collaboration with brilliant partners that share our hometown and our love of fun,” said Edward Allen, Carnival’s vice president of beverage operations.

Carnival’s beverage team created special martinis in tribute to the cruise line’s Miami roots and unveiled them for the first time at Tropical Distillers near downtown Miami. Tropical Distillers’ new distillery is set for a debut of its own this fall and will provide an important component, JF Haden’s Mango Liqueur, for one of the new ship’s exclusive cocktails, the Mango 305. Carnival also worked with local partners Magic City Garnish and Filthy Foods to source the garnishes which will adorn each cocktail. Additionally, Carnival’s brew team is also working with M.I.A. Beer Company on a collaborative beer and the brewery’s Miami Weiss beer.

At Tropical Distiller’s new storefront this week, Carnival’s beverage team introduced the Mango 305 and two of its other new cocktail creations as well, the Flamingo and the Key Lime Pie, and shared the following recipes:
